Great review, based on facts and emotions, loved it.

Jagna from the book is not as innocent as the one from this movie. Jagna is selfish, vain and not particularly kind. She's beautiful and all the men fall in love with her, and she uses that to get what she wants. The new Jagna is more of an innocent victim of her own beauty and it is "a modern (feminist) take on that woman.

Jagna in the books is innocent but Polish society is so misogynistic that they can't digest a woman who dares to speak, have opinions and her own sexual desires. What you represent is the old village misogyny exactly like the one showed in the movie. Poland is still far behind the modern world. Of course, not everyone in Poland is backward but you definitely are.

Interesting! As a movie watcher (never read the book), I've deduced with the way she was going around with a married man, that she was a selfish and an unfaithful young woman. BUT, she did not seem to be that manipulative in the movie, it's more like she's a victim (not innocent thou) of her circumstances, not being able to be with the man she preferred (since he's married) and pushed to marry the man she didn't want because of his lands. Although a question, if you see this: I was just wondering, how comeJagna was never considered for Antek (her husband's son)? I mean, they were complaining about Hanka's dowry only 3 acres, while Jagna came with 5 acres. Is there any reason? Also Hanka (Antek's wife) is also a beautiful woman, but since I can't see her hair it's more subdued than Jagna. Imo, Antek would've cheated on Jagna too, if Jagna were in Hanka's position. The 'passion' or 'freshness' of love quickly dwindle to stagnation amidst having to work the land and raising children lol.
