Been here. I absolutely loved this city. That wine bar was actually where my cocoon room was. I would return.

You bloggers who only visit Bucharest and Transylvania can't stand you anymore! This does not mean that you have seen the REAL ROMANIA as a country!!! But only one region of the country that only has a different zonal specificity compared to other regions of the country!!!

I can get a nice mural on old comunist buildings , but this scrible on freaking medieval buildings...we have a saying :"numele prostilor pe toate gardurile" = "the name of stupid people on all the fences" and this saying is before graffiti.

All normal cities are designed with the center being the place to pray, eat and party while outskirts were for residential areas and production centers so the workers can be nearby their work place. Many quarters all around Romania have certain designations according to their history.

All the east European cities have a very few to do with the local culture but with the Jewish culture. In Transilvania they were excepted from taxes and in Poland/East Ukraine of today they were the only people allowed to trade goods. The Kazar leadership of the area which controlled for more than 1000 years the trade and politics in the area put a huge print on the cities culture and arhitecture. If you want to see romanian culture you should visit the rural areas. But many people are interested just about the Jewish culture. Even for the historians the only relevant are the Greeks and the Romans which were developed to provides protection for them trade.

Ba, tu chiar esti prost! Vezi un pic cand au avut evreii prima data dreptul sa locuiasca in Brasov si sa detina proprietati acolo.

You seem to be very disappointed with the work hours in Romania, going as far as to say we are lazy which is not true. If you check the statistics for work hours, we are working more than many other EU countries, USA and Japan. The thing is we start early and close early for certain businesses. In Romania, especially the rural side people tend to go to sleep with the hens (7-8 PM) and wake up with the roosters (4-5 AM). The cabin stops going up earlier as it still needs to operate to take people down. Best is to catch the last the last tele-cabin up and go down by foot. When it gets dark it's very creepy but a fun experience if you are in a group. I don't recommend doing it alone if it gets dark early. The Peles Palace has limited tourist hours because cleaning alone is a very complicated job which takes many hours day to day and the place is closed one or two days a week just for a bit more thorough clean. Then there's maintenance work and renovation work that needs to be done on it and on Pelisor.

Cetate means fortress city. Cetatuia is a diminutive of cetate. In Romania we are all cetateni (citizens) meaning citadel inhabitants. Funny how language works.

Romanian is a a Latin language, the most Latin one, basically Neo-Latin that also absorbed neologisms from other invaders, traders and trends. Merci comes from Mercur/Hermes, god of merchants, people wish you to be succesful in business with Merci. Mulțumesc, the longer, more formal version of Thanks, comes from Te Mulți Ănesc, meaning I Wish You Many Years. So, if you feel that more money is what you want, Merci works, if you like more years, Mulțumesc works for you.

I don't get it what's wrong with tagging and graffiti. This has been done by the plebs for thousands of years. The place will last longer than the graffiti. which is ephemere.
