I would love to know who is downvoting your videos. As a hideously incompompetent DIYer across the pond, I find your videos both impressive and inspiring. I believe the correct comment to the downvoter is "sod off". If that is not the case, please correct me. Love your videos!

I do love it when Americans try to use British terms (even better in our accent) When I visit friends in LA, he's always saying "Bloody hell" in a very poor English accent.....Cracks me up so much!

Diefers Dashcam UK Yes, like on Frazier, the poor English accents of Dorothy’s family from Rngland. “Sod off’ is however pretty accurate.

Alright mate, enjoying the videos, very informative. I'm currently doing new builds. I've come across a plot where an electrician has installed the consumer unit too close to a boiler housing and it overhangs a door frame. I've got to reposition it onto the other side of the door. Now I've been told by the superiors to crimp everything and extend it including the meter tales, which I won't be doing. I'll be installing new tails back to the meter box. What are your thoughts about crimping tails?

American electrician here... America is so broken and the brexit means the unions will be forced out of their own towns and better the economy. I want to move to England. My last name is also Nagy. (???) but America is broken and I was just wondering do you think electricians can have (license) passports? I’m licensed and bonded but.. it’s not like moving states and transferring the license now is it?
@Tadasis72

If i would get this job i would just move the fuseboar in to the next room next to the sealing that way you wont need to extend them
@thomasnagy
@thomasnagy 7 лет назад
i wish i could mate. Not possible here though because from what i gather they are installing some overhead units etc. In a way it doesnt matter as i have to run in lots of new cabling for upstairs.

Can't imagine how pissed you was when you saw that parking ticket! What's your PayPal? I'll happily put £20 towards it to show some appreciation to the channel and hard work you put in! Would it be possible to see inside the box you extended all the cables in? Also the tray would be nice to see too. :)
@thomasnagy
@thomasnagy 7 лет назад
Trust me mate, parking tickets are just a part of London life! That was the first one i have had for a few weeks so i was doing quite well up til then! i normally find you get one a month on average. stopping in a yellow box is the easiest one to get done for as the traffic moves so quick and you go with it but then suddenly it stops and your half inside a yellow box! buggars! My next video i think is continuing on this job. I already had some footage of the junction box i used but i didnt add the footage on this video as it took too much time up. Once i get going on this job in Chelsea you can gimmee a hand testing it; that'll give you some serious hands on experience!
@nathanhedgeley8016
@nathanhedgeley8016 7 лет назад
thomas nagy The fact that the ticket cost more than the job is rediculous! Basically paid £5 to do a job lol. I'd honestly be up for that on a weekend if you're being serious! if I could get a train up or something then I'd defo do it.
@thomasnagy

Tradespeople here seem to mostly charge parking charges straight through on the bill, as opposed to simply marking up the hourly cost.

Outrageous parking charge. And potentially a hazard, as people who can't afford a professional will DIY and bodge it.

would you say a 63A isolator switch on a consumer unit is an acceptable amp switch when the board is fitted with single or dual 63A circuit breakers? Because they do in Cyprus.

How do you get on with burying tails with no rcd protection?
@thomasnagy
@thomasnagy 7 лет назад
tails are essentially the same as T&E. they both have double sheathed cores so i treat them the same. granted meter tails dont have an earth core in the middle though. in the end a stud wall went over the top of these cables and then it was tiled over. the supply cable was a 16mm T&E fed downstairs in the entrance lobby from a 50A breaker. I didnt bother RCD protecting the supply T&E as its all behind studwork with about 4 inches off free space now seeing as it has now been stud walled. I was expecting them to dot and dab but they ended up stud walling it all. As it now happens i may have to move this fuseboard again as i think the design of this room has just changed and the new location of the board is now in the way of the ''new plan''. grrrr If thats the case all their studwork will be coming back off! Im hoping the client has a change of heart.

What maintenance free connectors do you use, I've used wagos in the past but I'd prefer to use something a little more robust.
@thomasnagy
@thomasnagy 7 лет назад
at the moment im working my way through a batch of Wago ones. They are good but they dont accept stranded cables which is a pain when doing downlights with pre wired flex's. You can get connectors now with the lift up clamps so they accept both solid and stranded cores but they are about double the price so i am working my way through my box of Wago's first. I was going to do a short video on all the different types of connectors but have not got round to it yet. ;-)

Thomas a temporary fuse board with 4 x double sockets on a piece of ply is invaluable for a sparky to keep power on a site whilst doing these kind of jobs . You could have connected the temporary board and completed the board move in the daytime .
