Moving a Heavy Upright Piano Upstairs with 2 Movers and tight landing 

Man y'all crazy! 🤪 In a good way!! 😄 I think that piano should become a permanent fixture sold with the house! 🤣🙏 What other crazy moves have y'all done! 😅 👏👏👏❤️

😱 my good Lord! My heart is pounding and I feel exhausted just by watching this video! 😅 If you think movers are expensive, think twice! It’s hard work! I gave my movers extra $ and they didn’t have to move any piano! lol Great job guys! I hope they understood about the wall damage. 👏👏👏👏👏

Beast Mode!... I have moved 6 times in the past ~10yrs with moving help for only two of those moves... 3 of those moves cross country. After my last 3rd floor move, I am certain that I am NEVER going to own a piano. I just bought a house and the previous owners left a pool table (excellent condition) in the basement... I am betting that they just didn't want to move it up stairs.

I returned my escalara stair climbing dolly because it was WAY to HEAVY!! It was like 200lbs. I traded it in for an automatic hand truck stair climbing dolly instead from hand trucks to go. It wieghs 60lbs with 500lbs capacity. I love it but I don't think it could handle a piano. You guys ready did a great job! Props for showing the damages along the way and not hiding that.

I’m a mover and I don’t know what it is with people having pianos and other pain in the ass furniture in the dumbest of places. Those split level staircases and narrow walls are a mover’s biggest nightmare haha

You guys are real lion's..I have tried to move an upright piano with two different sets of four muscle gym going men over 6ft tall twice and failed lol ..all you need is a weakest link, or a pessimist lol , we just could not get it round one landing ..gave up ..piano still in hallway and thinking of breaking it up and scrapping it now. well done guys.

Nice work boys. The only thing you forget to mention is you need to be strong. Not just anyone can do this. Using the shoulder dolly to work that corner is not easy.

Damn people joke about getting killed by a piano falling on them but I totally get how that could happen!

I have been a mover/driver/packer for over 25 years. I would have politely declined that job. They certainly could have used extra help. The main thing is there is no way to get that piano up without some damage. That turn in the landing was the main problem for me.

No carpet shield or protection on the banister or handrails or masonite on the hardwood floors? Forearm forklifts and straps. I wouldn't use the stairclimber. Stairclimber is for fire files and safes.

Finally! Some guys who know what an upright piano is.

Was it worth it, how about all those scratches and hole on the wall? Maybe ? Don’t you think should have used shoulder strap from the beginning? Stay safe, guys good work.

We use shoulder dollies.. just make sure you both are solid individuals . How we would have carried it up. We would have scoped things out and due to the landing. We would have only used shoulder dollies. Also see if we need extra clearance to go around the landing. If we do, we would take the hand rail off. So we would line it up to the stairs faced to the right side. Then should dollies amd shoulder dollies only we would slide the strap under the main part of the piano. Once we get lift it just a little. Ill be at the bottom and my other body would be going backwards.. the person going back wards would have one hand on the hand rail to help pull himself up. Ill be slowly pushing him up.. once he gets to tbe top of the landing. We will set it and the person on top will lift the piano to go straight up. Then he will come down a couple steps where we would keep the piano straight up going one step at a time. Once we get to the top of the step. We would skim the floor using the shoulder dollies to get it in possition. Once we start getting to the point where we have to lift to get it on the first step. We would use the shoulder dollies to lift. Remember to keep it straight up and level until you get to the second step up crom the landing. Then losin the straps all the way and slowly bring the piano back on its feet. Then slightly bend your knees and tighten up the strap.. stand up and get to the point at the top of the steps where youll carefully push it up together with the shoulder dollies.. we only use two bodies.. so i do not have an extra body to record us...

I have been moving pianos for 30 years and the comment of the keys facing the turn is correct. Also if the guy on the bottom lifted his side higher to keep piano level to the guy on top it wouldn`t have hit the wall, Good work though

That was a crazy move ... the guys are pretty strong though, but very lucky. You pull your back on that silly job ... its over. I would give the owners this advise: Sell the upright grand, and get a smaller spinet piano for the 2nd floor. The escalera was almost useless! Manni needs to visit the Gym more often Lol ... he did great!

As a 13 plus year mover, good job fellas, but your higher ups should have sent more guys to prevent the wall damage and save everyones backs.

Great job but I don't think the 4 wheeler was needed on the turn. Straps were. On something like that I always tell the customer that we are not responsible for any damage to the wall or piano while going up the stairs.

I would have applied a rental fee for a SUMNER 783700 2010 MATERIAL LIFT (10'/1000 LBS.) depending however on that beam on top but there would have been no killing yourself and 0 damage.

Only different thing I would do is stand the piano up the other way, so the L shape was facing in towards the turn...would have given more room to turn and may have avoided the knicks and scratches. Great job though!

Great attempt guys. Escalera should have never been used, it took too much space to make that turn. Secondly, once using the straps that 4 wheeler should have not been lifted with the piano it just got on the way, reason that hole was made on the wall. Shoulder dolly could have been used to lift it up to at least the first step on the second flight of steps to easily maneuver it then tilt it normally. If takes to do it step by step by all means do it, to prevent damages or even worse serious injuries to a fellow mover. Keep it up tho 👍

Long time ago I was on top of one of those pianos with a sledgehammer ready to bust it and the owner asked my brother WTF is that guy doing, and my brother told me to wait, and they had a confusion, at the last minute the owner told the wrong guy that the piano was to be moved to another place not the junk place. So he thought he was going to fool us so my brother told him that it was not going to be included in the original price that it was going to be more money but we were not bonded for moving such items so when the owner got an estimate to move it he told me "ok go ahead" (demolish it)😂 Those has a huge cast iron plate that's the mf that makes these pianos super heavy.

We charged a customer close to 1k to move a similar piano from the basement of one townhouse to the Mid level in another townhouse. Humbling experience lol

I just decline to move any pianos upstairs with landing. Customers want a miracles and I'm not a magician. Sorry. Beside there is a perfect spot for a piano by the left wall on the main floor. WOW! the wall is busted. It will be mover's liability to pay for repair. $$$$$. You will be paying more than you made on moving.

Not me , I’ve got work tomorrow & mouths to feed . These customers don’t give a fuck about you , why would you risk an injury for strangers ? And then they’re going to put in insurance claims for the walls , railing & rugs . The piano wasn’t designed for this & the keys may have shifted , this is a bad idea .

That’s the stupidest thing ever to move an upright piano up the stairs with a landing and a tight turn. The only way to get it up is to damage the walls which makes the move a fail. That move would have been declined faster than a bums credit card
