Moving BACK From California To Austin Texas [I Couldn’t Take It]
To our subscribers (and new viewers),
Ever wondered how or why I got into real estate, and now help people relocate?
In THIS video... I decided to go in a different direction.
I figured I would take a break from the things we usually address such as neighborhoods, vlogs, pros and cons, top 10s, etc. And instead, give you guys something more raw and vulnerable for once.
In this video I talk about moving from California BACK to Austin Texas. Why I moved to California from Texas in the first place, what it was like, how the two places contrasted, the highs & lows, and so much more that would eventually lead me back HERE.
Full-circle - now helping people do what I did, and finding happiness as I did.
I've made this video in hopes that someone, even if it's just one out of many, will take something from it, and possibly relate. Moving back to Texas from California was the conclusion of a wild, and painful ride. Some of you might be in a similar boat. But it helped me realize this was what I'm meant to do. Maybe it'll be home for you too, come 2022 or whenever you see this.
Enjoy!
- Frank

About Austin, Texas:
🟢 en.wikipedia.o...
"Austin is the capital city of the U.S. state of Texas, as well as the seat and largest city of Travis County, with portions extending into Hays and Williamson counties. Incorporated on December 27, 1839, it is the 11th-most populous city in the United States, the fourth-most-populous city in Texas, and the second-most-populous state capital city (after Phoenix, Arizona). It has been one of the fastest growing large cities in the United States since 2010. Austin is the southernmost state capital in the contiguous United States and is considered a "Beta −" global city as categorized by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network."
"As of the U.S. Census Bureau's July 1, 2019 estimate, Austin had a population of 978,908, up from 790,491 at the 2010 census. The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan statistical area, which had an estimated population of 2,295,303 as of July 1, 2020, roughly 84% increase from the year 2000. Located in Central Texas within the greater Texas Hill Country, it is home to numerous lakes, rivers, and waterways, including Lady Bird Lake and Lake Travis on the Colorado River, Barton Springs, McKinney Falls, and Lake Walter E. Long."
"Residents of Austin are known as Austinites. They include a diverse mix of government employees, college students, musicians, high-tech workers, digital marketers, and blue-collar workers. The city's official slogan promotes Austin as "The Live Music Capital of the World", a reference to the city's many musicians and live music venues, as well as the long-running PBS TV concert series Austin City Limits. The city also adopted "Silicon Hills" as a nickname in the 1990s due to a rapid influx of technology and development companies. In recent years, some Austinites have adopted the unofficial slogan "Keep Austin Weird", which refers to the desire to protect small, unique, and local businesses from being overrun by large corporations. Since the late 19th century, Austin has also been known as the "City of the Violet Crown", because of the colorful glow of light across the hills just after sunset."

Thank you so much for this video. I was born and have lived in Los Angeles all 48 years of my life. Still here. Everything you described is at minimum 100% correct. There are many things that people are not allowed 🚫 to say about the who, what, where, and why California is the way it is and people can blast me all they want. The truth is Los Angeles and the VAST MAJORITY of California is a perfect hell storm of political, social, economic, educational, crime, racial, ethnic, gender, transportation, and various other quality of life issues that creates what is referred to as "Angry Rat Syndrome." I have worked in many different industries including entertainment. Anyone try non-union background work? Pure misery. I will make a public admission with God as my witness that MOST of California and especially Los Angeles and surrounding areas is NOT a happy place to live. It would take days to explain and even after that, there will always be some smart mouth who will argue "Yah but every city has its problems and the weather is just so great here so what do you expect?"

Nah. I live about an hour outside of LA. My neighbors are awesome, the community is diverse but extremely welcoming, everyone helps each other out and it's laid back here. I've travelled to every other continental state, and Californians have a reputation for being outgoing & friendly for a reason. It's also very, very safe here. Your personal experience tells me more about you than anything else.

@Adam C. I technically still live in LA county, but in the mountains. I love it up here. Quiet, beautiful, with all the benefits of California living and none of the downsides. LA county is enourmous- there is a LOT of variety in communities. Also, what I find to be wonderful might not please you- I love the countryside. I have a herd of goats and a bunch of chickens. Maybe you'd think that's dirty and loud. Orange county in my opinion is insufferable. I dislike the people and dislike the noise and pollution. Maybe there are pockets of goodness, but on the whole I dislike it. The horse people there are NUTS which may have shaded my opinion on OC's rural areas. The coast is too cold and murky for me lol. I like living inland. Do what feels right for you! Some people love the mood and atmosphere of coastal living. Some people really like Orange County. Just not me lol

@@kmadon6828 Hahah, I laughed out loud when you mentioned 'horse people'. I understand why you like more open space, I grew up in Upstate NY where it was mainly corn and cows and smaller cities with not much to do. Irvine I noticed had like zero human activity when I was there on a Friday night. I thought wow, not for me. Yet those other areas like Aliso Viejo or something seem OK, more trees and parks and hills, plus the ocean is close. I don't bother driving anywhere near Santa Monica or any beaches of LA anymore, they are shit. OC much better. It would be sad to move from LA in search of more community or nicer areas and then land in OC or even San Diego and find it's the same types of people in LA, only more laid back and slightly different scenery.

Pasadena, miss how it was before 2020. So many places closed and turned over, doesn't seem to be as vibrant as it once was. It is a nice area though compared to a vast majority of LA county. I'm ready to leave LA county, all I do is stay in my bubble due to traffic it's pretty sad. The only beaches I like are OC ones, so drive down there early Sat mornings. Just total lack of decent open space in LA too. I know mountains but, the air sure is cleaner by that ocean.

I came from San Diego and moved to the greater DFW area. Texas views suck as its basicly flat and boring. Where California has lots of variety of beautiful views all over the state. As for cost of living California just out right sucks there is no other way to say it. Where Texas is relatively inexpensive. As for jobs there are many jobs in both states. As for politics as far as I am concerned as a libertarian they both really suck, but in different ways. California is just out right full of wackos where in texas corruption is ramped with the good old boy system of the rich. As for crime, personally Texas has been far worse than California. In the 40 years I lived in California I have been robbed 3 times. As for Texas I have lost count how many tines I have had been robbed. An example, I was working on my bobbed wire fence and needed a tool. I walked to my house to get the tool and when I got back where I was working on the fence all the tools that I was using on the fence where all stolen. The biggest crime I had, i had a building delivered and before I could have it erected it was stolen in the middle of the night and the cops could not give a crap. They could not even put in the effort to try to pretend to actually do anything.

Thanks for sharing; I left Austin in 2016 and moved to Denver for a job and had a very similar experience. I got a job there that I couldn't refuse, and was excited about the no humidity, mountains, and a change of scenery. The honeymoon phase lasted 6 months. Sometimes the air is so dirty you can't see the mountains from the city; the traffic to get into the mountains is horrific on the weekends. It's expensive although I had a good tech job so I was lucky to afford it. They have a similarly bad homeless problem; super aggressive and were all over (I lived close to downtown). The food was bland. And the worst thing was the people....cold and unfriendly and flakey. I moved to Austin from Dallas in 2007 and couldn't believe how nice the local, original Austinites were. I moved there knowing no one and within two years had a large friend group/connections. You can go to bar solo and come out with two new hangout friends Such a great energy there. I tried to make it last in Denver but decided to move back to Texas about 6 months ago since I became a remote worker-I looked at coming back to Austin but the prices were rising too fast on homes, so I moved just outside of San Antonio where I build a new house for half of what it costs in Austin. But there is still the same energy as Austin as far as people who were raised in central Texas-I don't think you will find more genuine, cool people anywhere, and I've been on six continents. You truly don't know what you have until you leave it!

The central part of Texas is the most friendly, however that's pretty tricky because a lot of people in Central Texas aren't from Texas, same with outer DFW area. The friendliness is pretty hit-or-miss in the rest of the state, to get a general idea of how Texans really are, step East of Interstate 35, that's where more born and raised Texans are.

@adamc.7795 Год назад
I've read about the same cold and distant type of people in Denver also, although have only been to the airport haha! I don't get why Denver could seem like that, it seems like a happier more affordable place than LA is that's for sure. Plus Denver is made up of people from all over CA, NY, anywhere else. I want to find a study about which cities are becoming like this, is it most major cities globally? Or is it an American problem having that lack of friendliness, etc. Then I hear of people who left LA, SF to move to Denver and they said it's much better in Denver. Just so many dynamics to account for.

@@xjumpmaster82 Seems like I have heard way worse comments from Texans about California. Californians don't generally make derogatory comments about Texas. I certainly don't speak like that about Texas but it seems Texans whether they have ever been to California or not love to spew their disdain towards CA., and no other state? Why is that? And, of course it's generally focused on the "cities" of L.A. and San Francisco. Not even the counties as a whole. Almost every comment section I read on RU-vid that mentions CA, Texans are the ones most vocal about everything wrong with the state. If this comment is the worst thing you have heard and find it so distasteful, you must be pretty thin skinned and sheltered. And, if you don't think Texans speak like this and even worse you are delusional. I've known my share of Texans through the years. I was also involved with a Texas "gentleman" when I was much younger, he was the one and only man I have ever been involved with that was rude (not to me), disrespectful and mean to everyone, ie: our friends, parents, restaurant staff, kids, etc. As far as I noticed, his family never saw this side of him. I'll venture a guess and wager a bet he is still the same. Thankfully, I had the sense to kick him to the curb before wasting years of my life with him. So I'm here to say, "some" Texans are way more vile than this commenter. And, I don't doubt, that many Texan's would make the same comment or something more rude to anyone that was not happy living in their state. Me, I wouldn't necessarily phrase it as the commenter did but I certainly don't find it offensive. If you don't like it, leave. I would, however, say, I love the fact that "some" people are leaving the state. makes my heart hopeful for the future of the state. Hopefully the migration out of CA continues, there are too many "fame & fortune and wealth seekers, Hollywood wannabe's, that have caused the majority of influx to the state. Plus, there are known states that import their homeless population by buying them one way tickets to sunny California, by selling them the fact that they don't have to worry about the cold & snow in the winters. I would love to see my state downsize, where those people go, I don't care. I wish them well. :) Texas should be warned though, massive migration might not be in the best interest of the state. Isn't that what happened in CA? What might it look like in another 20 years? Just so you know, I'm not a Texas hater. I have loved my time spent there, except for the heat! lol.
