I almost spent over $100 (usd) on asos until I saw you had posted and it made me stop and really think. I do need to replenish my wardrobe because a lot of it doesn't fit me anymore, but instead of getting brand new items, I will make it into a challenge by thrifting everything that I was planning on buying for as little money as possible!

Also supermarkets have loads of boxes to upcycle, wine bottle boxes are especially good for books as they are small but sturdy.

I second this!! I work in a supermarket and we can give away the big boxes that bananas come in and things like that! 🥰

Whenever I need to pack (every year when we bring things to the summer house) I go in the morning to the store and tell them how big boxes I want. Through the day they save me nice ones as I like to pack stuff rather in a box from toothpaste than cat food (nothing against cats, I just don't want my coushions smelling like it). I know other people asked for boxes like that when I worked in a store back in uni days.

Label a first 24 hrs box with creature comforts so you have food toilet paper etc that you can find fast. So happy for you!

I watched a really great video by Leena Norms about a lessons learnt in your 20's (clothes edition) and she made a really interesting point about buying clothes that fit you at different sizes, especially if you fluctuate. So elastic bands, loose fit, belted etc. So they look good at any size you might be which I thought was really useful to think about :)

Totally agree with this! I fluctuate between sizes 4/6/8 and find if I stick more to size 6 it’ll fit me better as I fluctuate lol

Dear Madeleine, I also gained weight in the last few years and while I consider myself minimalist-ish, the biggest learning was not to get rid of lovely lovely clothes just because you are too big or too smal for them. There will be a point in time where you eventually will need other sizes again, and then it is nice not to have to buy everything again. So espacially for good quality clothes I just keep a liitle box of sizes I cannot wear at the moment. Just thought I'd share because of your workout clothes! Love from Paulina Ps: I find this especially true for clothes that are sooo hard to find, like really nice fitting jeans or good workout clothes!

I'm the same, I was attached to my old clothes and thankfully so because now that I've lost weight I get them back out and love on them again. I now cycle any clothes I'm bored of into a box and then go through them and it's like shopping

We just bought a house but it was my grandparents house that we already lived and and they have moved out. We missed out on the packing and decluttering so we have 5 years worth of stuff to go through and really evaluate! This is giving me the motivation to really start. We cant put it off forever as it will probably get worse!

The filing folding method is a blessing/ miracle for clothing storage! I used to never wear loads of my clothes, cause they were at the bottom of the pile. The filing storage allows you to see everything so easily! And pulling something out doesn't create a mess

I know it’s plastic but I own 7 IKEA bags that held all my clothes, bedding, towels, and shoes in my last couple of moves. And I use them very regularly for taking the paper recycling out or carrying my washing to the laundrette. We even took some camping 😅 Since they are so useful and sturdy I will probably use them for years to come. Obviously, I wouldn’t buy them for a single use situation.

Yes, I love the ones which zip shut because they have bug straps on the back to wear it as a backpack. I use them when moving, as a laundry bag, camping (but only if you don't have to carry it for too long), even as luggage when visiting my family prepandemic. They store super small and even after 2 years both are still in good condition.

I live in the US where it’s usually a month to buy a house but an unforeseen complication made it 4 months to get into our home so we used the time to declutter. It was such a benefit to not move things we didn’t need.

to carry stuffy in you could maybe try pillow cases and duvet covers, they hold loads of stuff and its easy to move them :) xx

OG Maddie content decluttering is what I’m here for! Loved it 😁 We just went through this process to buy our first home, but luckily we were in within 2 months of viewing. If it’s something you would be open to talking about, I’d love to hear more about how the Reno effected the sale price and turning a profit from your investment etc? I know that’s quite personal but any advice, things your regret after selling etc would be so helpful as we are in a similar situation where we don’t think this is our forever home but still want to do some work to make it more our style 😁

This week in Boots I saw Maybeline cosmetics recycling box (they accept any brand) for the old nail polishes and makeup. I think it is better to see if your local Boots/Superdrug has a similar recycling box, so as not to throw it away into the bin. Surely recycling is not a solution, and we don't know if they really recycle but in my opinion, it's better than just throw away. Will definitely use one of these boxes in the future myself.

This is the motivation I need! I can totally relate to the stress full buying process. We will move in June and the last months were super stressful filled with lawyer court dates. Now we know when we finally move and I need motivation to declutter. Thank you Madeline for providing that

My husband & I just moved across the country last week! We figured out that we were going to move about three months ago and as soon as we found out, we started doing a small amount of decluttering each day up until the week of the move. By the time moving day rolled around, we had such a small amount of stuff we were able to fit everything into the smallest moving trailer we could find. It made the process SO much easier and really helped keep our stress to a minimum. Wishing y’all the best of luck 💚

We’ve been waiting to complete on our house and have been living in a 2 room annex for 3 months with the majority of our things in storage. So it’s like everything has been in the “maybe” pile for all that time... I can’t wait to declutter it when we get moved in!

This is such an inspirational video. We have been decluttering for the last 10 years since moving in with my in laws here in the US.. i thought i was a minimalist but with four kids, its just taking a long time and we want to move out eventually but don't want to take clutter with us.I especially can't let go of my Brit mags, some from 15 years ago!! Can't wait to see your new home and the beautiful scenery. Miss the English countryside.

We're moving at the end of March, so this video is so inspiring! :D I already started decluttering in January even though I wasn't sure if we would be moving. We signed our lease last week and since then I'm ready to start again :)

:) the cardigan.... I now mentally “rent” things from the charity shops. Having a party? Go buy 40 cheap wine glasses and re-donate them next weekend (dreams of 2022 lol!) I’m thinking the jacket is the same thing. I remember seeing an article that Helen Mirren(?) goes on holiday with nothing really.... arrives gets the taxi to take her to a charity shop to buy clothes then drops them off on the way back to the airport! Thought that was a brilliant concept :) it’s how I get extra luggage when I’ve over shopped... charity shop duffle bag and donate when I get home lol

oh yes, I do remember you cycling a lot! I think it was often part of your vlogs when you used to live in the country side and didn't have a driver's lisence yet (if I remember correctly), and I was always a bit jealous because it looked so beautiful!

That Casio watch is cool. I have a problem areas with goop and paper hoarding. Like shampoo, moisturizer, kind of goopy things and then bits of paper with info or a recipe on them.

I'm waiting to move into my new apartment here in NJ and the wait has been so stressful for me. Living in a pandemic and working around the moratorium has been way too much. While I'm glad people are being protected from being kicked out of their homes, it creates a breeding ground for domestic issues. I experienced my neighbors on the top floor beating on each other and everything else that goes with it. I've been digging through my closets to run into a bunch of wth moments lol So much stuff to get rid of. I had no idea I accumulated so much stuff! I want to give it to people who need it through local Facebook groups. This way I know its not all going in the garbage and people are being helped. This video is bringing me a sense of peace. Thank you!

you could sell the active wear sets that don't fit you! that way you don't have the guilt of not fitting into them but you also get most of your money back xx

I can only wear a tiny fraction of the clothes I like due to sensory issues with fabrics and the labels and stitching- even some lovely soft t-shirts have shoulder stitching made from thread that is essentially fishing wire, and while at home I just wear them inside out, you can't necessarily do that everywhere. I definitely can't wear nylon or polyester stuff, but yeah- there are some fabrics that look lovely, and feel nice on the outside (velvets, I'm thinking of you) but even the thought of them against my skin makes me feel queasy. I clothes shop mostly by feel!

Ugh, you remember me I'm having to do that as well this month! Not moving house though, but we're getting wardrobe closets. But it means we have to break down my baby closet (thing almost falls apart), which is packed with clothes, having to move those into another room, get rid of old matress and bed, disasemble it and disassemble new one and reassemble, and break up 2 desks. One Ikea desk is looking like crap, so that's going to the recycling centre/tip together with that caved in matress, but the desk I also got as a baby can maybe make someone happy still, has only 3 nicks in it. Oh true, and have to dissassemble a bookcase as well, also going to the charity shop, it's empty almost, so I don't have any need for it anymore. And after I have to go through piles of clothes to declutter.... . U certainly had more energy than I will ever have whilest doing this. :) U did a great job.

Hi there 😊 its not moving related, but would you think an e-book or paperbook about Vegan recipes for IBS? Its sooo hard to check all the veggies and have no motivation to do it. Just back to eat everything which isnt ideal.

You can just sell the athletic sets on Vinted (or Depop), everyone knows the price of them so people can usually sell them for the original or close to original price. I am sure it will be better to buy sets that fit and make you feel good than to hang on to them

Would be so great if you could do a video about the best way of disposing of things when decluttering. My family home has a lot of clutter accumulated over the years and I'm not sure the best way to get rid of some things. I.e. all those body spray sets we used to gift each other as teens. Do you just throw them away if they are full or is there a way of emptying aerosols and recycling? I feel very guilty about things that no longer serve a purpose but are not suitable for donation or recycling. Moving forward I will be a conscious consumer but unsure what to do with old stuff. Any advice?
