Hey just thought I would let you guys know I've been doing this for like 10 years using the Google alerts feature / customize news feature. While it isn't my own function it is in the cloud and it is free and it is serverless. And I didn't write a line of code.
If you use Cloud Functions, you can write your cron jobs in Node.js, Python, Go, Java, C#, Ruby, or PHP. If you use Cloud Run Jobs, you can use any programming language that can run in a container for your cron jobs. I have several cron jobs that are written in shell script, for example.
You might have heard RSS feeds. Many free and open source RSS readers are available. Not need to build apis or cron jobs to get HackerNews new article updates. FYI. Good information though.
