when you start to dviewers showing daily stuff but trying to speak Portuguese it will probably attract a lot of views from Brazilians mostly.. maybe you could do 2 channels onde directed for BR other for English speakers viewers, good luck here, welcome!
I would appreciate it if you could highlight the rich Italian and German culture of our region. Cities like Blumenau and Pomerode are full of cultural heritage and have many tourist attractions worth visiting.
Hi. I’m Brazilian living in US for a very long time. I never met an American that moved out from US to South America and yes, I admire your courage and determination and start a new life in a completely new country with another system of living and culture. I did it too but we have a completely different story. I ❤ USA for many reasons . I learned and grew up so much in different directions. It’s an awesome country🔆🌻✌️🫶⭐️. I ❤Brazil too. Our language, food, culture, music, dance, history are phenomenal. It’s an awesome country🔆🌻✌️🫶⭐️. I wish you both a great life in my country with peace, light, grace, love and joy of Jesus✨✨✨✨✨✨✨Cheers🥂🥳🥂.
There are many Americans here in Brazil, of course that not as many as the opposite, because the US is much more often in our media than Brazil in American media (and in general more in case of tragedies or something exceptional). So, many more Brazilians idealize the US than the opposite and Americans think that the country and Latin America in general are poorer than the reality because of the big number of immigrants there. Americans living here in Brazil are often people who came as tourists or because of their work and came back. Now, many "digital nomads".
Mr. Smith Welcome to Santa Catarina! I live in Joinville, and I hope you feel right at home, make tons of new friends, and become a natural part of our community.
Wellcome to Brazil Jim! I will be glad to help you out in here I live in Balneario Camboriú and work for Philips Health Care Informatics remotely. I live in USA for 4 years and Americans help me a lot with everything there! I know is hard at the beginning, but you get used it. I wish you a great life in here in Brazil, you are in the South of Brazil you are safe. Nice to found your channel and more nice is to see you talk about Brazil.
Looking forward to seeing the videos about your pets and how you managed to move them down here to Brazil. This is a great country and I personally think you guys have made a wonderful choise. Best of luck.
I am planning on doing a video on that. Might be a bit before I get it out since weather has turned nice and we have some weather related projects we are doing. Stay tuned though!
As a Canadian who loves Brazil and close to retirement, I found your video to be great! I am not sure about moving there, but I can totally see making frequent visits to the country for vacation. I have been to Santa Catarina and I think you have chosen a wonderful state to make your home. Congratulations and looking forward to your next video
I AM a Canadian too but have lived in Brasil off and on since 2002. Is a great country, you will have NO culture shock here, it's just like where you are from AND it's cheaper than the Phillipines !
@@JimSmithBrazil I meet new people who have moved to Floripa SC every day, mostly Brasilians from the north, SP or RIO, although some Russians and Ukrainians too
Welcome to Brazil Mr.Smith.My father was American and I lived for 9 years in the United States in Texas and Oklahoma where I served in the Air Force and National Guard. Today I live in São Paulo.
That was a good move. I am a brazilian born in Porto Alegre, living in Miami for the past 20 yrs. Planning on moving to the coast of Santa Catarina when retired, in about 5 years. I wish all the best to you and your family. Cesar Bem.
Ola Jim, be welcome! I'm a Brazilian guy living in São Paulo's state countryside and I would like to congratulate you for all the efforts and courage you got to start a new life in BRASIL. We all know that most americans retirees usually chose south east asia countries for their new beginnings. So, I hope you and your family have a great life down here. God bless you and your family. Enjoy !
Hey, don't give away our secrets ! Also a US citizen living in Brasil off and on since 2002 Mostly lived in the north , Recife and Joao Pessoa, now living in Florianopolis You're very smart not bringing down all your old stuff ! So many people are too attached to the stuff and can't let it go. So much easier to buy NEW stuff once you arrive. PS- Brasil produces everything you could ever need ! ENJOY !
@@JimSmithBrazil I laugh when someone comes here with a couple $2500 containers full of USED JUNK ! Bem-vindo! Saudações do extremo sul do Brasil.
Well done mate! My partner and I were thinking about it, we have a place in Portugal 🇵🇹 and buying a place in Brazil for retirement. I'm Brazilian in 🇬🇧 UK. Thanks for 🎉video 🎉
Well. the only thing that I can say as "welcome!!" Nobody will be the same after Brazil. And believe... you will find a place where personal relationships are most important than your money. You will have your family and a lot others friends that you didn´t ideia that exists! Friendship here are like "that brother that you didn´t chosed , but you where gifted in life" I hope you be happy in my country, and enjoy our kind of careness wich others". Aftyer all, we are all brothers!
Thank You very much! Even though I do not speak Portuguese except for basics people are more than willing to talk to me using google translate. You are right we are all brothers.
You are very welcome. May God bless you greatly, and may you enjoy all the peace you need. Brazil is a little complicated in some cases, you'll see over time, but it's a great country. A big hug to you and your wife. And if one day you want to take a vacation, consider visiting my city, Fortaleza, capital of the state of Ceará. My name is Vitor, nice to meet you.
Thank you very much. When Ana and I got married here it was very difficult. It took us three weeks to get all the paper work correct. But when I applied for my permanent visa it was approved within an hour! LOL
O RU-vid me recomendou este vídeo e eu simplesmente adorei!

Jim Smith, what a wonderful adventure! I was born and raised in Brazil, my career has taken me to 30+ countries, and the USA (Texas) is my home. Brazil has many great things and places to explore. Learn the language as it will help you much on day-to-day activities but also as a window to a deeper understanding of the culture. Enjoy the journey! ❤
I’m Brazilian American, grew up in Brazil and moved to the U.S as a kid with my father and have been in NYC for 18 years. I’m also moving back to Brazil with my husband in 3 weeks for many reasons. One of them being the situation of NYC, the crime and awful quality of life, things have changed a lot recently and for the worse. I wish you and your family all the best in this new phase of your lives! 😊
@@JimSmithBrazil I’m sure the broken healthcare system, terrible quality of food and current political climate and lack of gun control are probably other reasons we share. It’s sad to see America going down this path. There are places and places in Brazil just like in any other country. The area I’m moving back to is also very low on crime, amazing cool climate and good quality free health care.
@@ivorylioness9321 that's interesting. As you sad, there are places and places in Brazil. We have a country where in some places what was envisioned happened and in others it failed misrably due to historical, political and economic contexts. While it is discouraging at times, it is also what gives me hope about our country. I'm sure you made a good decision.
@ivorylioness9321 I used to live in NYC for 20 years. Things have really changed a lot. A few weeks ago, someone in the subway threw a beer bottle at my sister's head. She passed out and was taken to the hospital with a terrible open wound. It was daytime, and she was just going home from work. She didn't even know who did it. Mental health is at its worst.
Welcome and I wish you, family and pets good luck and many blesses in this new life. I am from SP capital and I think you had made a good choice moving to a small city like Treviso.
Thank You. I have never liked big cities. Even in the US. I live 3.5 hours from New York City for over 20 years. The only time I went to New York City was to fly here to Brazil on our move! LOL I agree with you the small city life in Brazil is awesome.
First rule of Brazil if you weren't born here is: You do not talk about the bad things here. The second rule of Brazil if you weren't born here is: YOU DO NOT TALK about the bad things here. Paul Cabannes followed the rules and now he is Brazilian. Nice video btw, i hope everything works out for you.
LOL good advice. I think some people don't understand the difference between bad and different. Just because something is different from my home country doesn't mean it is bad. It is just different.
@@JimSmithBrazilactually, it isn’t like that. Some people talk about the bad things in a disrespectful way, and Brazilians tend to get really mad about it. In my opinion, that’s not your case, you seem like a nice man!
I hope you will go far. Patience is very important for success. Never get discouraged no matter how bad the weather is or how low the views are. He/she was disappointed and failed. Continue the video,You never know when success will come. Love remains ❤️🇧🇩😢🎉
Very good video Jim and i just subscribed to your channel. I am Brazilian myself living in London UK. Moving back as well to Brazil soon. I am sure you did a good decision and honestly wishing you and your family all the best in Brazil.
Thank You. It wasn't an easy decision and a lot of thought and planning went into it. I grew up on a small farm in Wisconsin. Never did I believe I would be living in another country when I was milking cows at 17 years old!
@JimSmithBrazil we are able to do anything, my friend. We just have to be brave, work, and believe. I did the same when I left my country to England for studying and work. It was worth it, and I am proud of myself. Now, it's time to move back and reconquer Brazil. Keep posting , I am very curious to watch your development and conquer Brazil too.
Welcome to Brasil!! I’m Brazilian living in the US and I’m so jealous of you guys.. Congratulations on the move, I wish you all so much happiness, love, fun, and great memories! Hopefully you can live a better, healthier, and more relaxed life! 🇧🇷💛💙💚

I’m originally from Criciuma but lived abroad for over a decade before moving back last year. Glad to hear you found a lovely plot of land in Treviso. Welcome and all the best!

Welcome to Brazil. I love the south, specialy Santa Catarina state, its the better place to live in Brazil, for sure. May God bless your dreams and this new time in your lifes. 🙏 I've visited Treviso once about 2 or 3 years ago, its a small and simple town, all this vale is very nice with the montains behind, specially with Serra do Rio do Rastro too. 🇧🇷🙏
Thank you for watching my video. We just love Treviso. Yes there are things that a bigger town would have but we can always visit those and get the things we need. Treviso has went through some major changes this last year. They have been upgrading and fixing the water supply and they put all new sidewalks down the main part of the road with fresh asphalt. The town has a fresh look to it now. The other thing with this small town is everyone is so helpful and friendly. And like you said the mountains in the background make it a very beautiful place to live.
Welcome to Brazil, Jim! Great video and I'm definitely gonna follow your journey. I love that area you guys moved to... So many beautiful places to visit! Have you already explored places like Serra do Rio do Rastro? If not I definitely recommend it. The coastal cities like Florianópolis are also very beautiful and a must visit in the summer! (well, if you enjoy beach life lol) Cheers!

Just came across your channel and I look forward to watching some of your videos. I am also from the US (New Jersey) and I left on October 30 2023. My husband is Brazilian, he was born in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. My mother in law has a farm here as well. I came down here in July of 2023 first just to see if I would like it and just to get an idea of life here. We were planning to leave NJ anyway as is was becoming too expensive to live. Our other option was moving to South Carolina which is where my brother and his fiancé bout a home in Conway. They love it there. My husband had been mentioning Brazil a couple years before that and I kept hesitating. I was thinking about how far from my family we would be just finding work and if I was able to adjust to something so extreme. Farthest out of the state Iv been was to St Thomas and Canada lol so South America was a whole different thing. So given the state of the country, it helped with my decision a lot more realizing the US was going downhill and the other thing was the food, I got sick with crohns disease back in 2014-2016 and I believe it was from all the chemicals in the food. So that also made the choice to leave easier as we would have better quality food. I then sold everything, paid off all debt and then packed 3 bags to move down here lol. Its been a journey but I really do love it here. From the vibe of the people, to the food, climate, and many more reasons why Brazil is better than the US for me and my husband. I look forward to watching more of your videos. 😁✌
WOW. Did you just come and stay in 2023 instead of just coming to see how it is? You were braver than me. I took a trip here and spent two weeks with my daughter here in 2022. I actually spent a lot of time in different countries or at least long enough to see the culture differences. Europe, Asia, but not Brazil! LOL Although while here I new I was only seeing the big city life I did get to see the country side and that was most important to me. You are right the food is great and quality is a lot better. Fruits and vegetables are crazy good and so many different kinds. We recently planted 16 fruit trees and have 5 or 6 more waiting to go in the ground! Of course there is the meat too! UG now I am hungry. I also agree about the US. I won't get into the politics but it is getting harder even for the middle class I can't imagine how it is for lower income people. I am glad you like it here. What state did you move to? Rio Grand Do Sul is right next door to us?
@@JimSmithBrazil I came down for two weeks in July of 23 to see how things were. Get a little idea of life and how the vibe was down here and if I'd adapt to it or not. And I fell in love. My mother-in-law has farm land there and its beautiful. Shes is in Paraíso do sul. We are in Rio Grande do Sul near Santa Cruz. We live in a walkable distance to the city center. When I first came down, I stayed near the farm mostly and we went to the city a few times because we needed to go shopping, so I got to see how the stores are, and how things in the city center were. The mountain views and openness, and all the green is what made me love it. I like that even the cities have trees and lots of vegetation around them. So after my two weeks I said I'm definitely coming back to stay. My husband stayed down here and I flew back to NJ alone to settle all my debts and sell my car and belongings and then by Oct I was heading back down here alone to stay. Start a new life with a good change of pace. Its such a nicer vibe down here. The south has more of the safer states so I'm told by locals and have read doing some research about the state, so I feel good about my choice. People here are very friendly and welcoming. Tbh I thought they would dislike the fact that I'm from the US but they actually are very nice towards me. Yes, the food here is phenomenal compared to the US. I love the churrasco, and it fascinates me that all they do is salt it and slow cook it over the fire and the flavor is amazing. We use too much spices and sauces in the US and here the meat is the main star of flavor. I agree, Fruits here taste better...I tried a mango and usually didn't like them when living in the states but here, they are addicting and so sweet. Bananas taste better, even their fast food is better lol. I haven't felt sick once from the food since being here. I fear when I go back to visit family Ill get sick from all the food there due to the chemicals. The countryside is amazing and beautiful and I have seen wild monkeys and toucans, the monitor lizards and cute little geckos. Im not a fan of the cockroaches or spiders but thats my only con here really so its not so bad lol. The language is also difficult, I can read it pretty well, and when I hear someone speaking I can break down what they are saying but to speak with someone it is very difficult for me. I love the work life balance they have here, and how the family structure is still a thing, also they have more benefits for working and the 13th month bonus is something the US should pick up lol. There are so many things I love about Brazil that I find myself asking "why doesn't the US do this? Or...have this?" Things just make sense here.
WOW. Like a kindred spirit! Everything down to the cockroach are my exact feelings about here! LOL Thank you for the background information. You two week stay was the same as mine only thing different you did it all in one year! I feel I have a sister in a Brazil now! bwahaha.
@@JimSmithBrazil 😁 Yes! That is what attracted me to your story as it was similar to mine in the journey to come down here to Brazil. .I didn't hesitate to come down only because my husband stayed and was waiting for me to get down here and also I didn't want anything to make me second guess my choice. I did get home sick for a bit but then eventually I adjusted being here and now I can enjoy everything whole heartedly without feeling like I left everyone behind. I do however try to tell my parents they should come down here to retire but I don't think they are as adventurous as me lol. I think eventually they are going to head for South Carolina near my brother because NJ is getting too expensive for them. The part where you talked about bringing your pets here is something I struggled with as I had 4 cats that I had to leave with my parents as I was too scared to fly them down here. My one cat has a heart issue and asthma and I fear that something could go wrong during the trip. So all my 4 boys are back in NJ but I wish I could have brought at least one. I'm just lucky and thankful my parents offered to care for them. Yes, A Sister from another mister and Brother from another mother lol 😄
I struggled this year with missing my two girls and 4 granddaughters and one grandson back home. That has been hard at times. Pets. Oh boy that had to be hard. At cargo in Sao Paulo my wife almost got in a fight with them. She was pissed. Long story. However a Federal Police officer over heard her and pulled her aside and talked to her. Her Portuguese was flying off her lips. He saved us basically. He got us in the back so we could see our pets and then helped us get the paper work finished. We ended up missing our next flight. Had to rescheduled cost about 2,000 more in the end. We had left New York on Saturday night. We didn't get to our rental in Nova Veneza until Monday morning at 4:30. Our dogs were glued to us for a week! Cats not as bad but the were in hiding for two weeks at least. Worst part of the trip. Glad you are hear. I kind of don't feel so alone now! 🤗🤗
Sejam bem vindos!
Of all the places in Brazil, you went to Santa Catarina... Either you are very resourceful or just very lucky. SC and Parana are the best states to live in Brazil... I'm considering moving to SC before the dollar crash, but I would prefer to be by a large city, either Balneário camboriu or florianopolis...
Good for you! I want to do a couple other videos on moving your pets and getting your residencies but would like my channel to get established first. Thank you for watching.
Seja bem-vindo.
Paraná is a bit better than Santa Catarina..... São Paulo is way better than Santa Catarina in almost everything..... but Santa Catarina has the BEST Capital and the Best coastal city to live in Brazil which is FLORIANÓPOLIS!! the Paradise in Brazil!
Hi Jim! I hope you are very happy here. You seem to be a very easy-going person. You will make many friends. Brazilians love to help, so whenever you need help or guidance, ask your neighbors or even here. And share your progress on this journey. Welcome.
Was nice to hear your background story... I am Brazilian, and because my work I had to live 3 years in Tennessee , 3 years in Ohio and also 1 year in Germany. To be honest I never thought to leave Brazil for good. I am from Parana, and I dont know why but I always found myself more laydown when I am here in Brazil, even with all the country problems. Anyway, welcome to Brazil and I wish all the best.

Thank You very much. It has been a great experience. It also makes me feel said for my country since the sense of community I have felt her I never felt in the United States. But that is ok. I live here now and will enjoy it as much as I can.
