That's what they don't tell ya when you start cutting wood. People seem to think it's all about chainsaws and axes, but really, haulin the logs out of the wood is the hardest part of the job imho. Not everybody has money for an atv or tractor. This is a great tool, thanks!
no it's way to big for a lot of mills but u can tow it behind a Volvo station wagon(car) with a log on it that bigger then most logging trucks carry the balance is amazing
Thanks I wish i had a skidsteer or FEL tractor but looks like that arch does a good job. Hopefully I can order the woodland mill soon. I have been collecting logs slowly. Thanks
Ash cuts easy with my chainsaw anyway ,but sadly they are going extinct and around here where im at they are all already dead ,no more ash logs thats crazy A but it is what it is i guess ...
Leverage is probably one of man's earliest inventions eh? Still works great! Here in WI we just dropped below zero F (again) and won't get back above until Tues., maybe. Could be worse, this one isn't done by any means but the winter of 2013-2014 was much colder!
I can see a log roller. some flat beams that you can put the logs on, then roll them down-hill to the mill. the log arch could lift either end to get them up high.
I just watched a video of a guy in Edmonton. It's minus 27-F. Compared to him you're having a heat wave. Plus, think on the bright side, at -40 it's the same temp C or F. LOL
Oh, I was thinking you were in Canada. I'm in FL I don't think you're nuts. I guess those who say that don't know if they'd get off their rumps they'd eventually start sweating out there even in these temps.
Ben, hope you were able to use my video for the compilation sawmill project. Tried changing the settings. A logging arch is on my list of thi gs to get.
18 degrees is down right balmy. It reach just above zero today. I'm hoping for 15 degrees tomorrow so I can make an attempt at stating the mill. It doesn't like freezing temps. I may have to install electric start to save my shoulder, lol. Nice log arch. I'll bet that comes in super handy. Happy New Year Ben.
august That's a good idea. I will try changing the oil and maybe clean the carb. Then I'll get some Heet and non-ethonol fuel. These sub-zero temps are brutal on machinery. Thanks for the feedback. I'll let you know how it goes.
I know those temps will turn older, thicker, used oil into sludge. I know with all my smaller pull type engines: log splitter, snow blower, that when it starts getting real cold, I will change the oil to the 5W-20 and because it's thinner AND fresh, pulling it over is much easier. I think synthetic might help even more ? Hope it works for ya and have Happy New Year !!!!!
Very interesting. I have some land, and trees fall. I cut them up and burn them. But you have to move the pieces to stack it before burning. I have always lifted pieces into truck or pulled them with the truck. I was thinking about a dolly, but this log arch is much more versatile. I'm getting near 70, and I do not want my back messed up. Thanks for this tip. Where did your wife get the log arch that you used?
I been lookin for one of these a hand operated I didnt know they existed but pretty slick tool to save ur back or working in the bush clearing logs hey work smarter not harder. Who doesnt like that idea?? And if you got ur own chainsaw or bansaw type mill even better.
Were the tires flat when you first wanted to use the log arch. I know if I owned one, they would have been. -30 F tends to suck the air out of everything. :)
Way to cold. You may not have known this but -40F and -40C are approximately the same temp. The only reason I bring this up is because we're not very far away. :(
I'm going to make something like this for bringing logs home to burn. First I thought two wheels.... Now I'm wondering about four wheels and riding it home as it's all down hill in a safe walled lane.... Lol
And then I decided that wouldn't actually be the point of success. That would be when I notice other people in the neighborhood riding thier own copycat ride on log... 😆😆😆😆
Where did you buy that cant hook, my dad had the exact same one and it was stolen under my care so i have needed to replace it for a year now but just cant find the same one with that nice sturdy wooden handle.
-8C is t-shirt weather. Just saying . I'll agree that it's cold when you hit -60F like it did for me this winter. And I still did my outside work. Had to take several breaks tho because otherwise your can damage your lungs. Stay safe out there!
