I purchased the trinity lenses... RF 15-35, RF 24-70, RF 70-200. Thought those would be all I needed. Then I rented the RF50 1.2. Game changer. Now that lens is on my camera 95% of the time.
It definitely has a special quality about it. I wish I could articulate it better. It’s beautiful and a lens that you can use 95% of the time. You have most of the big time RF lenses, congrats! I am considering the 70-200 next. I’ve rented the 15-35, and if I did more real estate and architectural photography, that would be my next lens. Thanks for the comments and the kind words!
Thank you for your videos they are very insightful. I have the R6 MarkII and just picked up the RF50mm 1.2L. I love the sharpness of this lens. In less than a week, I've shot over 1,000 pictures with my new RF50mm 1.2L, and the Godox V1c Pro flash. I'm very pleased! Thank you once again. 8.30.2024
Great video and photo's.I have the original Canon EF 50mm F/1.0 which I bought in 1995,and this week I bought the RF 50mm F/1.2.Like you I am pleased to have the both of them.😊👍Both great lenses.
We're pretty much the same. In the beginning, I kept on using my EF 24-70 2.8 even though I had an EF 50mm 1.2. I was just afraid that I won't be able to fit a big group of people if I used the 50mm. Now, I don't really focus on groups of people anymore... more individuals. For whatever reason, group photos don't sell as much as solos. I like the way you present your review. It's more home-like with just the right speed.
Thank you for sharing your clear, practical perspective. Happy to subscribe. I used to use Fuji APS-C gear. Now, with the R5 and 50mm 1.2 I can crop in a bit and still get great image quality. This makes the 50mm even more versatile. Together with the 24-105 f4 as a just-in-case lens, I have a great combo for portrait, landscape, and product photos.
We have a lot of things in common! I just got my first Fujifilm camera (X-S10). I’m having a blast with it. I don’t feel comfortable walking around with the R5 all the time. But, as far imagine quality goes, there is no comparison, especially with the 50mm 1.2L. You have your “just in case lens” too, so you are all set! Thank you for commenting and the great conversation!
Great video, the 50mm focal length is one of my favorite focal length. That is a magical lens and very sharp, with the canon color science makes it even more great right out of the box.
Greetings. Being your own worst critic tells that you’re a photographer. I have shot Canon and Sony. They’re both great systems. But there’s something special about the Canon system. This video with that RF 50mm lens really drives your message home. I enjoyed the content. God bless you.
Thanks for the insight. Seems to be great overall, but what I don't like it's how it handles against the sun, what you show here at 5:45. I have the 85 RF 1.2 and it does the same thing.Too much contrast is being lost, a lot of haze and flaring. Hopefully something Canon will change in next generation of their lenses.
Your photos are amazing. I'm moved by monochrome primarily, color images don't strike me emotionally as much. But these! These had that same effect; a truly talented use of color in your images. Outstanding! Subscribed :)
Great choice. I was really shocked by the size and weight. Otherwise, it's the most 50 I've ever used. Maybe I'll be on passion if Canon comes up with 35 1.2, because the focus fits me a little bit more.
The 50 is so good! I’ve been enjoying it. I also recently got the RF 35mm 1.8. It is a great lens too, and compared to the other RF lens, it is fairly inexpensive. But, it does not perform like a cheap lens at all. I actually take off the 50 to use the 35 sometimes.
Great shots I love the poses. I have been shooting primarily with the RF 24-70mm and the RF 85mm F2. I am really considering the 50mm 1.2 or the 85mm 1.2. I shoot weddings and portraits. I can’t get both. That’s too much $$. I use an R6 and R8. Would the 50mm be better with the lower resolution? Thoughts….
The 50 and 85 would be great at the lower resolution of R6 and R8. They are both super sharp lenses. I personally use the 50mm focal length a lot. It is my go to lens. It comes down to which focal length you would use more.
Wow, I watched the video and I have to tell you are such a nice guy! You have such a charming and sympathetic character that I subscribed to you directly and your photos look so damn good that is really impressive! I love the 50 mm f1.2 at work but in private I also use the 1.8, and it's also a great lens for the relatively low price greetings and love from Germany!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I have the 35mm 1.8 and am really impressed with the images it produces. So, I know you are enjoying the 50mm 1.8. I’m sure it is a great lens.
The RF 85 1.2 is sharp wide open and the autofocus is quicker and more accurate. The EF 85 1.2 uses focus by wire which is slower and is hit and miss. As to RF glass, it comes at a steep price and if you have the equivalent in EF, from a utilitarian standpoint the new glass isn't liable to make you anymore money in fact with the glass being sharper you are likely to spend more time in post softening. Sharp glass for portrait work is sometimes self-defeating.
I have not had a chance to try it it yet. I don’t use the 85mm focal length that often, so I haven’t even considered it yet. But I have seen some of the images it produces, and it is very impressive.
I have to say that I am so happy about my 800 followers. This is a dream of mine. I know it’s going to take time, so I’m just enjoying the process. Thank you so much for the comment.
