Name suggestion: Hestia, Greek goddess of Fire, hearth, home, and protecting the house. Vesta would be the roman equivalent. Phoenix is always a good shout but a touch overused for fire names however still suits her well, and another fire goddess is 'Brigid' the pagan goddess of Fire, healing, spring and renewal
Name suggestion: Boitatá. It's a mythical Brazilian fire snake. They're protectors of nature. The legend is thought to be based around spontaneously igniting swamp gas.
I knew those enclosures were big, but when Emily crawled inside I realized just how big the setups were. Really shows just how much she cares about her animals. I love it
So I work at the Virginia Aquarium, and we have a softshell turtle as well. Just a little tip, if kids can't figure out which one it is, just tell them to look for the swimming pancake. It gets them laughing and also helps them find the turtle!
Wow, it has been 2 years and the snakes are finally going in. I know the videos aren't in order, but you guys have come so far! Congrats to you and Ed, Emily!
@@me-6007 i mean technically yes and no they started 2020(or im getting this wrong i have a dissociated disorder) its about to be 2022 in a few months so it makes sense
Ooooh Lauryn's drawings for the info panels would make perfect stickers! Then kids could get a sticker that matches their favorite snake, or during parties you could give every kid a different sticker and they'd go find the snake and write about it!
"ardor" might be one for the Argentinan snakes since it means to burn with passion/fierceness in Spanish. i saw someone also commented ember which was the other thought. So happy for your guys!
It also means that something stings and / or is sore in a burning way... Or so that's the first thing that came to mind when you say "ardor" for me haha
Seeing not just the animals happy, but also seeing you guys so happy about being able to do this for your animals is literally making me tear up. I hope you know how much good you're putting into the world with your work 💕
I definitely recommend having the lights dimmed when all the enclosures are done and lit up it will make viewing inside the enclosures easier and look insanely cool.
i was thinking this! they could have special events where they turn the lights off after hours and people could get flashlights and go through a dark facility tour
2 years later and the Argentines def have strong trees, and the ledges happily were reinforced for a gravid Phoenix. From ashes to a zoo to breeding. Beautiful
You can call her Diamond! She looks like coal, which turns into diamonds with extreme heat and pressure! :D She came through hardship, and she's beautiful as ever :)
To weigh in on the lighting debate, I used to work at the National Aquarium, and pretty much all of our enclosures were lit up, with almost no lighting in the hallways. It obviously came with some drawbacks, but I think it was amazing to showcase the animals. If I was in your position, I’d set the overhead lights suuuuper low, and then have the enclosure lights be the predominant light source. This also helps with animal stress, since they will see their own reflection more than a bunch of big apes walking around
Calida is a Spanish word meaning Heated, could be a cute double-related name with it being in Spanish (for the Argentine part ;))and having a meaning related to her history. Ashe might be a little morbid but it's cute. Blaise could be cute like Blaise Zabini. Vesta is the Roman goddess of the hearth, that could be cool.
"Ember" is a name I'm fond of for a fire name, even if it is pretty simple, and its one I've used in my writing, but another name I've seen that I really liked was "Akosua." Or For a male name I like "Vulcan."
I am so hooked, I have been watching these over and over again and seeing how much you love your animals, really warms my heart, I love snakes, lizards etc but I have a fear of spiders more so the ones that are large or very obvious ones, its hard to describe the ones I fear. I know they can't hurt me, especially the ones that we have here in England (Midlands) and we deal with more the house spiders and they are great for dealing with flies or other bugs but yuk.... what can I do....
I think "Ash" would be a great name for the boa! Aside from the fire stuff, I think it's also my pokemon loving side :>> Also, I think "Toast" would be a great name for her bf!
Call her Entei, Raikou or Suicune they're pokemon that were resurrected by Ho oh after perishing in the Brass Tower when it burnt down. I think Entei would fit the best
Back in 1979, Gloria Gaynor had a hit song called "I Will Survive." I think you should consider naming your Argentine Boa Gloria, because she survived.
I recently went to an aquarium and some animals didn't even have name tags much less, information so it's great to see your doing informational signs, thank you do much yall!
the zoo I work at (which has the largest reptile house in the southern hemisphere) actually makes it pretty dark inside the reptile house so that the colours of the enclosures and the animals pop and make the exhibits even more interesting. We only have wall lamps to light the path.
I remember seeing the Argentine boa at grand opening! Watching her climb super high was amazing, and now knowing her story, I’m so happy I was able to see her in person 💕
So happy to see all y’all’s progress! The enclosures are beautiful and it’s awesome to watch the snakes explore their new homes! Also I really like Phoenix! my ideas name are Ember, and Akiho (Japanese origin) meaning ‘fire and autumn’
Reslly loved how olive’s colors contrast the rest of the enclosure. Deffinitely my fave. So far at least. I’m sure the rest of the enclosures look amazing now that they are done.
If I survived a fire, I wouldn't want to be named fire- I would want to be named after its foe. And while I know the fire tetrahedron would state a lack of oxygen or chemical chain reaction are valid ways to put out a fire, we all know the classic opposite of fire is water. So, I would suggest Ceto. Not only the Greek goddess of water, she is linked to dragons and serpents through her many children.
For the male you can call him Hephaestus, it could bring reference to his scarring and also the fact that he has been in a fire. It could be really cool
I think the house fire was one of the very first videoes i watched on your channel! I don't know if ive been a subscriber since then, but that was one of my first videos of your channel! I love how incredibly your world has taken off!
Oooo I've been waiting to see this! Phoenix, Cinder, or Brigit (celtic fire goddess) would all be great. I think you idea is the best. For your male you could do Apollo, Vulcan, Ra, or Agni
I hope you can turn down the building lights when everyone’s in there!! I think the bright ceiling lights are kind of jarring right now, but I’m sure it’ll be much different when everything’s lit up in the enclosures
I thought about Ember too. I Think it would be great. Not as clear of a connection to fire as Pheonix, but still there when you think about it for a second.
I love how energetic you all are about this. you remind me of like a really cool science teacher/professor who everyone likes because they always do cool stuff in class. You could probably discuss something super boring and it would still be interesting to us. Love your work :)
12:50 - What a horrible thing to go through. I'm so glad you guys were able to save some of those snakes. I can't imagine how devastated your friend was. Your/his boa is beautiful. I also nominate Hestia for a name, and Prometheus for her boyfriend's name.
I love that line. My mind went...."The are 5 animals in the zoo...????...didn't you put 4 snakes in one enclosure???? Was it a hydra and I didn't notice? Also, the turtles. I mean if you ignore them they're gonna end up eating pizza and learning Karate."
Conley it means “purifying fire” in Gaelic or Ember This glowing name comes from English origin and it has a beautiful meaning: “the smoldering remains when fire extinguishes." I hope these aren't bad names
12:20 May I suggest a few names: -Mboi, it's the Guaraní word for "snake", and their distribution range overlaps with that of the Guaraní people. - Usuahia, which is the capital city of Tierra del Fuego, a province in Argentina named like that because of the bonfires the natives would use to keep themselves warm (it's the southernmost province of Argentina). - Pampa, pretty self explanatory For the male: - Quiroga: an Uruguayan author, he wrote stories about nature, in one of them all the characters are snakes (it's called Anaconda, nothing to do with the film) Mboi would also work for him. Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
Me encantan! (I'd like to add that Mboi is pronounced "mm-bo-EE" and more commonly used for smaller snakes. It would be like calling her "tiny snek" too which is adorable).
I think Hestia would be a good name for your Argentine Boa! I think it ties with the fire theme, while also leaving the door opening for hissing jokes. “Alright kids! This is Hesssssssssssstia!” I just think it’s be neat!
Just got done with a stressful exam, and right as I flick my phone on a new video from yall pops up. Thank you for making these , I always look forward to them.
I reeeeeally think you guys should dim the overhead lights a lot, or completely turn them off! You’d be surprised how much ambient light the enclosures may put off, but (for added safety) you could also light the walkways with led strips or garden walkway lights. I think it would really highlight the gorgeous enclosures you’ve created and keep glares off the glass
I love how compassionate you guys are about your snakes! Makes me wanna do as much research and get a small corn snake of my own! Hopefully some day I'll be able to visit the zoo!
Name suggestions: Cinder and Ash! When reborn, Phoenix’s rise from the ashes and cinders left behind when they perish. Right on par with the metaphor. 🙂
This is SO COOL to see all the snakes in their new enclosures!! I was gonna suggest Agni as a name for the survivor snake, but MAN, there's TONS of great suggestions in the comments already! It's a great outpouring of creativity, for real!
oh my god I used to watch your videos like years ago and saw this video on my recommended page and decided to click... You guys have made so much progress! thats awesome. And Ed looks amazing. Im really happy I clicked.
Just had a thought. I visited a zoo recently and in there bug room they displayed the spiders molt as they grew which was amazing to see and makes me want to start having them.
My family and I went to the zoo last weekend and it was AWESOME! Emily was feeding some snakes and let my 12-year-old watch and lean. It was a GREAT experience!
I always thought Scatha would be a good name for a snake. Scatha is a wyrm from Lord of the Rings and in his horde he had The Horn of Rohan. I'd say the Rohirrim know a bit about recovering from tragedy
It might be a cool thing lighting wise to turn the main lights down low, have some glow and the dark arrows on the ground pointing out the path, and then the rest lit up by the enclosures
How about Ember for the Argentine boa, I love the mythical name suggestions too. I think this is my favourite Snake Discovery video, it’s so pure and they love each snake for exactly who and what they all are, each individual personality whether friendly or cantankerous. Well done Ed and Emily, you’ve come a long way. 👍👏🐍🦎🐢🐊🕷🦗
Brad looks amazing in her new home. ^^ she's had so many babies good to take time off and get a treat for all her babies with a new home! :D she'll probably reward you next year.
Phoenix is a nice name, but I like Ember. And Ash for the male. It's amazing to see the Argentine boa tbh - she's so big! And she just went straight up that wall!
I loved the enclosures... it shows how much efforts are put in just from the snakes and the enclosure and the decorations..... I mean they mind boggling ❤❤❤
if you ever find the space, in the main lobby, you should put a freshwater fish tank. it would add a great touch to the nature theme you have in the zoo
I can’t help but emotional watching the animals finally get put into the enclosures! It’s turned out even better than imagined and it is so incredible to see all of your guys’ hard work coming to fruition. 🖤🐍🍃
Was just in the zoo today, it's looking great guys! I'm excited for the Rex footage that Ed mentioned. I think your Argentine Boa is the most spectacular snake I've ever seen, 12/10.
I always wondered what had happened to those snakes from the fire! I'm so glad some of them recovered and you were able to keep a couple and pamper them now
You could name her Fall names like Autumn, Olive, Maple, Aster, since in the fall the leaves are all burnt oranges and reds. I think it would be nice since it’s not directly related to her experience but still alludes to it. Or maybe even something to do with growth/healing/new beginnings, Ceres, Nova, Aurora, Hope, Novak (male)
I like Autumn. My last Cat was Autumn. She was born a week b4 the start of Fall. I didn't know torishells were born black, then changed color. So when I was looking for a name. I thought mmmm Autumn
