Hi, I moved 11 times before I was 18 years old. I've moved 9 times since I've been 18 years old. Including to a different continent. The last 6 moves have been with children (lots of stuff). These were good tips. Though I would disagree on buying boxes. I have never bought a box. If I spend money on packing, it's on plastic bins with lids!! For boxes I get the apples boxes (and only the apple boxes) from the grocery store. They are uniform in size, have lids (no tape), and have great pay load. Downside is that they don't fold... Also, for furniture hardware (bolts, screws etc) just put it back into the hole you took it out of. We've never had anything fall out. But we have also used the bag taped to the furniture method. Last one, feed your helpers!!

The furniture screw idea is good if there aren't a million screws like a bunk bed. I can only imagine screwing everything in after taking them out and then having to take them all out again to screw them all back in again. Too much.

#5 is probably my favorite. Waiting, or helping to pack, has happened every time we’ve helped someone move. Not a good thing.

Wow. I think a real friend would help pack instead of standing around waiting for a box to be ready. Some people are not so responsible or prepared but that doesn't mean they don't deserve help.

A real friend helps with the move, your job is for that to be as painless as possible for them. Dont make them wait around like a jag off while you hmm and haw with all your crap.

Um... not bad advice, BUT...one of the first things I would pack is a 72 hour emergency kit. Just google online and find a list of what you need. There are things like medicines, food, a pan for basic cooking, toilet paper, a flashlight... And you broke your own rule... If you're going to unpack your bed first at the new place, it cannot go first into the truck with the rest of the furniture. It has to be put into the truck LAST so it's by the door! LOL The things you need right away should also be packed last, so you can take care of the business of life when you get where you're going! Actually... I'm a retired REALTOR, and I've moved a lot too... and I used to have my own business organizing other people...

Retailers that sell appliances always have a lot of left over packing materials that mostly just get thrown away. You can get large (4'x6') cardboard and styrofoam sheets for free usually, as well as the reinforced cardboard corners. These are great for wood furniture in particular. I'm moving ~1400 miles in 10 days and my house looks like everything is factory packaged lol. Make sure to use masking tape on your furniture though, duct and packing tape can remove some finishes.

Agree with all except the friends part - no one wants to spend a whole day moving their stuff, let alone someone else's. Hire a mover / man&van.

Cool Actually I’m moving from one house right next-door to another house and I still own the old house too so it’s gonna be quite different moving. I also haven’t moved in 18 years.

heres a quick tip have ovr 3k for the first last month and security deposit also don't have a pet that's like another 100-400 bucks you gotta worry about
