Hey Melanie great videos I'm a new fan what about a Canadian looking to make potential move in near future I work for 3 largest city transportation in north America and currently just doing my research right now before making move trying to use my skills here to hopefully work there any thoughts and thanks for videos
Hey Melanie, we recently moved to FL from RI. We sold everything and drove down with nothing but our clothes and positive vibes! I watched MANY of your videos before my move to be sure that Florida was for me. So far, this has been the best decision ever! I'm starting to share my journey though my RU-vid in hopes it will helps others the way your videos helped me :-)
I have lived in Tampa Bay my entire life, this place is terrible, an absolute nightmare when it comes to tourism and traffic. Forget going to the beach it takes up to 45 minutes to get a parking spot. There is very little to actually do, and rents always rising. Everyone who has moved here, wants to leave 8 years later.
Thank you for all your great videos ! Discovered your channel yesterday as I’m trying to find an accountant job in FL or TX to temporarily move to the USA from Montreal, Canada ❌❄️ I’m collecting as much info as possible so thanks again 🙏🏼
I live in Massachusetts and I’ll be moving to Florida in November. Maybe we can help each other out? I already have a job so I’m good on that front. I’ve also been to Montreal and I found it pretty cool
2020 Goals! I’m grateful for your channel. I never thought I’d be planning a move to Florida but my husband has been asking for years! We finally decided why not?!
Also know that over 330,000 people have moved here in the past year! It’s getting crowded and housing has sky rocketed! Do research in the city you move to!!!
I'm a Orlando.gov resident & a veteran 🎗. I've lived in Florida since 2000. The state has grown and changed a lot in 20yr. The hotel, theme park business is still 1st for jobs, revenue. Florida unemployment payments, benefits are some of the lowest in the USA. Florida is also a right to work state. You can be fired or get reduced shifts for nearly any reason. Disney "cast member" status is good. The pay as of 2021 will start around $15/hr. Wages and work conditions for hourly jobs are bad for low skill, new employees. Immigrants & transients do many jobs cheap then leave. Learn basic office or labor skills then you can get related jobs. Get a 🚘 too & be able to get a DL. Public buses and trains in metro Orlando are bad. Employers want staff that drive or can work.
This was released on my bday. I actually moved to Tampa about 1 month before this video was made. I took a huge risk that actually worked out. I only had a few thousand dollars saved up and no job lined up but I rented an airbnb near the airport off Memorial HWY for 3 weeks. in that time I managed to find a job, have all my stuff shipped through U box and my car shipped from Washington State. I now live near Oldsmar close to the flea market and my rent is at about 1,100 for a 1bd 900 sq ft apartment. It was a risk but I would heavily recommend. My job is roughly 5 minutes away so there is no traffic here and virtually everything I want and need is either 5 to 10 minutes away or just a 20 minutes away. I wouldn't recommend moving to downtown unless you have money but living closer to Palm Harbor definitely is cheaper.
@Blaze6432 I'm about to do the same. I'm moving from Missouri to Florida. How did the whole living in a BNB work with getting your license etc? Did you not have to get your license until you got residency (APT)? Just curious, as this seems the most logical option. Thanks in advance.
Nice, and congrats! This gives me hope. I plan to move in two months to south of tampa. If I don't have a job yet we are still going we will have plenty of money from the sale of our house to rent if need be
I suggest living in a RV first, you can live for MONTHS for what it costs for 1 month's rent! There are BEAUTIFUL campgrounds with TONS of amenities! Usually, you can get the RV cheaper in your home state and sell it for profit in Florida.
Love the video, My fam and I moved to Tampa from DC area a year ago and we love it. the "its cheaper in florida" statement is a bit exaggerated but it still beats the lifestyle we had up north. There is SO much to do with the kids, your spouse etc.
I'd avoid Orlando. Homeless, drugs(fentanyl, opiates), traffic, corrupt officials, poorly run 🚑🚒🚓. Many people speak Spanish & Creole. If you have problems with other races, cultures, do not move to Orlando. Nice areas of metro Orlando, College Park, Metrowest, Winter Park, Longwood, Waterford Lakes, Windermere.
@@21kaylanicole Trust me, Tampa is not much better, lived in Tampa Bay my entire life, its the same deal as Orlando, or really any city, there are nice areas, and rough ones too. One thing does not differ though, traffic, tourism, and over crowding.
What parts of Florida is best to reside with family kids not too far from the beach and diversity but English Speaking places. We have a painting business and would like to start one IN FL
We might be moving in 2121. But we have lots of work to do with our current house. I was wondering if there are real estate agent that can work in 2 states (Oregon). Then I see zillow is willing to buy your house (not sure how that works). But I'm at a loss as to where I want to move to. Tampa, Polk City or Jacksonville area.
Your best bet is to work with 2 different real estate agents...one that specializes in your specific city in Oregon and one that specializes in your new city. Real estate is a super local business. With any iBuyer program, like Zillow, make sure you compare not only the sales price but also the fees. They can really add up!
Idk when I want to move back but I honestly want to come back home to Florida and get out of Kansas. I’m nervous about doing it on my own for a couple reasons. I don’t know what to do about the down side.
Exactly! All of Florida is not the same it’s a big state. Their are many crowded cities such as Orlando but also many rural peaceful towns with low population if that’s what you are looking for. I live in a rural town of 4,000 but it’s just outside of a town of 100,000 people. Close to shopping but far enough to have peace and quiet in country setting. I’ve seen many videos where people say don’t move to Florida because it sucks but that’s only particular town they lived in they are talking about. Just kinda stupid to make that generalization.
Too bad you aren't a little more south! I used to live in Jacksonville then moved to Pennsylvania for work. I am now looking at being transferred to Fort Myers to work there. I have been checking out some homes online in Lehigh Acres (outside of the triangle). Every time I hear negativity about Lehigh, I am like yea you should see some of Jacksonville Lol! Thank you for your amazing videos!
I lived in Boca Raton Florida until I was years and my father grew up in Booksville. The only good thing about Florida is the fishing or at least it was. I lived in Florida at the right time when it still had some innocents to it. The water bugs and mosquitos I can do without!!!
Not for working class people everyone is a cashier or grocery bagger @ Publix w/ a depressed look on their face. You'll have a view of the beach and also a view of a shelf you have to stock for $10.50 an hour
Hi - recently discovered your channel and have recently started giving serious thought to at least a vacation home in Florida. The added complication for me is that I am also Canadian. So at present just trying to sort through all the info that goes with that. If you have any tips or info for international buyers would love to hear them.
Just a tip for needing to rent before you have a job. You could always go with a hotel. With Expedia you can book a package deal for 2 round trip flights from Oregon to Florida (if your closer it might even be cheaper) with a 26 night stay in a hotel for around $1,500 but if I just book the hotel for 27 nights it’s around $1,700. I don’t know why it’s cheaper if you bundle it, but it is. The cheaper bundle seems happen at around 20 nights. Anyways. Living in a hotel for the first month or two is much cheaper than a rental and you don’t have to show proof of your income. So you can live there while you look for a job. Other conveniences and money savings of staying at a hotel are; you don’t have to hook up or pay extra for water/sewer, electric, cable, phone, internet, you don’t pay a first and last months rent, you don’t have to give a 30 days notice when you want to move and one of my favorites, you have a maid. You might even be able to find a hotel with free breakfast. You can even get rooms with kitchens or bedrooms. I based my price on the Orlando area hotels. Keep in mind if you plan on moving a bunch of your stuff, you will need a storage unit, in either your current town or in Florida until you get a rental house.
Hello Melanie, Looking to move to Florida and wow So many areas, Im on line for hours trying to find a home , St Pete, Clearwater, St Augustine etc.....omg i cant decide, been in the keys, but not much to do, love your videos! Tampa looks fun
Nice video However Florida is HOT Expensive Traffic Less for your money South Carolina ,North Carolina , Georgia, Texas , Nevada is the new hot spots for new covid relocation , cheaper taxes , cheaper house simple and quality of life less rain and hurricane season
Turning our home into a rental. Already got it renovated so now we are ready when the best opportunity arises. I sadly declined a job offer in Sarasota because the job was so strict with time off that I might as well stay put for now and visit FL freely. Not moving to FL just to be trapped in an office all the time with little time off!
I’m saving to move to Florida right now. I’m so nervous because I’m gonna be on my own for the first time. I know I’m not gonna be moving SUPER soon, but I’m still trying to be as prepared as possible! Your videos are fantastic!
On my fathers side it is our 2nd home. So thinking about moving some time in 2020/2021 Tampa was out first home so like to move and yes it is "WARMER" THERE.
Hello Melanie, I am coming to Clearwater Beach/Sand Key since 1989. A lot has changed, but I still love it. Now as a retired person I think about buying a condo there. Do you have opportunities? And if so, I need a permanent visa. Are you in contact with people who can support that? Best wishes to Florida from "cold" Germany, Franz
Hello, I’m a homeowner in the state of Ohio, I am planning to permanently move to Florida in 2021. I do not want to sell my home on Ohio, I want to rent it out it will be extra income to support my new life in Florida as I will be paying my home off in full before I move to Florida. Do you have any advice on moving permanently to Florida and keeping ownership of my home in Ohio ? Thanks in advance.
"Hey, how are you? Ms. Melanie. List the safest areas in Tampa, Florida? List newly renovated, and Affordable homes,Condos, and Apartments? List nice paying jobs for Art, Culinary, Customer Service? Are Tampa Florida walkable, or Spread out? I need walkability Is this City Diversity? Why I ask is because I might move there. Looking at Different States, Trying to figure out.
Love South Tampa. Worked there for 5 years. Most of my outings with friends were there. Can't afford what I want there so I purchased in Rtiverview. Just a quick 14 mile ride over. 11 miles to Ybor city..
Hmm...? I wonder if you meant proof of income as opposed to proof of employment? A large number of people have income without employment. Why would those individuals be higher risk?
Heres what you really need to know. 1. Driving here around any city sucks 2. Growth is rampant. Houses are built poorly 3. Water is running out thanks to too many people moving here 4.the water is polluted because of too much fertilizer and weed killer.
Hi I’m from Ohio I was supposed to move to Florida this year but due to coronavirus I can’t until 2021 and then I can buy a house and so my house that I am currently living in
Melanie, we are moving to the Tampa area within the next four years so my husband can begin his pension in the state on time so he can retire at the correct age. We are looking for a walkable, very safe neighborhood. I’d love to be able to walk to shops, the grocery, coffee houses and cafes, etc. We’ll be moving from way up north and really lacking the neighborhood knowledge necessary to differentiate what’s good and what’s bad. Can you recommend a safe, walkable neighborhood in Tampa?
I want to get teaching credentials in Florida. I am trying to see the neighborhoods with low crime and then look for school districts. Tampa Bay seems fine but I don't know where to start. I know how to get the teaching credentials but housing and neighborhoods is an issue right now.
Look into West Palm Beach, they pay decent and the district has 180 schools. Stay out of Riviera beach and lake worth and you will be fine. Hope this helps. It's a nice county and the beaches are nice
This is what I am planning to do. Move to Florida (Tampa) in 2020. I really enjoy watching this video. I will be visiting the area First. I've learned a lot about Tampa because of you. Thank You for this Video Melanie!!
What exactly do you mean? If you mean the people then its a very diverse city that vary as you go through each area in the county. Also, Hillsborough is one of the biggest counties in state so you will get a lot of variety.
My family and I are considering moving to another state. We currently live in California and Florida is in the running. I’m curious about Pensacola. Is that a good area for a family? And what about Orlando?
The house that I currently have is a two-family home my primary residence. My family and I want to move to Tampa Florida in 2020 we're not selling this home because it's upside down want to rent out both units, but both units would need a lot of cleanup probably won't be able to rent it out until a month after I leave so I can use it income from both units as part of my income will there be issues in this regard thanks.
I would talk to a lender asap to clear up any questions you have regarding the income property and ability to qualify for a loan here in Florida. If you need some names, please let me know!
Thanks for the relocation advice. Having lived in Florida for the past 15 years, originally from Northern California, initially though why am I walking in a hot wet blanket every time I go outside?! Lol! The homes here can be bungalow, small with low ceilings, and overpriced. I have seen that Florida appeals more to the northeast transplants. I have enjoyed my time here but with every year it keeps getting HOTTER!!! Finally relocating.
Hi there! Great tips here, thank you. I’m swiss and I wondered which steps could I take first in order to move, work and live there, any ideas or tips to that?
