I'm 45, I'm born here, raised here, and live here in Huntsville; lived of and on in Cali for a year and yes I travel within and beyond the U.S. I'm a two-time graduate (Bachelor's and Master's degree) of my beloved Alabama A&M University. Love my city; excited to see the changes but a lot of my non-engineering and non-governmental friends/neighbors/family who native to the area are being outpriced of this market. Single-Parent Teachers and single-parent nurses are struggling to find a nice affordable house/apartment. The flights out of Huntsville suck economically; we drive and then fly out of Nashville (1.5 hours driving) and Atlanta (4 hours driving). Adding some context as a native 😊 and I say Welcome to ALL!

Thinking about relocating to HSV, and we are actually visiting this weekend to check it out. The thing that concerns me is the technology people moving there--I would hate to see HSV turn into another Silicon Valley/Crazy California situation. I also don't like hearing that people in CA are buying investment property in HSV--they are driving up the prices; I have been watching this market for about a year, and there has been a pretty huge increase in how much a house costs in Huntsville/Madison.
@movetohuntsville
@movetohuntsville 2 года назад
Actually, it is not the investors who are driving up residential housing prices. Investors are actually having a hard time finding properties that fit their model because they're now competing with folks looking to buy and move in. Prices are driven up by the large number of transplants relocating here for work or school who outnumber the amount of available housing. Come on down! Hope you enjoy your visit.
@armedinbama
@armedinbama 2 года назад
In my experience, for the most part, investors are having trouble buying area residential properties outside of some of the "lower rent" parts of town because property owners simply won't sell to them. We resent blind phone calls, fishing mailers and the very idea of "outsiders" trying to profit off of our area. I hope your visit turned you on to some of the great people here and eased your mind. CHEERS! 🇱🇷
@rachela5548
@rachela5548 Год назад
We moved to Huntsville two years ago and have been renting ever since. We are Alabama natives (Birmingham and Mobile) and frankly the house prices here are a joke. We’d never pay $350k for the old crummy houses we’ve seen on the market. And the nice new houses start in the $500k range when everyone familiar with Alabama real estate knows darn well those nicer homes were selling 3 years ago in the $300k - $400k range. So the transplants are basically falling for it. You can live elsewhere in Alabama and at least have the advantage of a tanking housing market. In Huntsville the local economy “might” be able to sustain these prices but even now it’s cooling off-although sellers are still smoking crack with their asking prices. If you want a nicer home, wait a couple years and move to Mobile. A lot of the transplants here are not sticking around. They come, rent for a while, give up on this frustrating housing market and then move somewhere else.

San Jose California used to be a nice and affordable until tech companies moved in. The only jobs they produce are $150k jobs for the few turning many into millionaires. For every one of these tech jobs four service workers are created. Where are the service workers suppose to live if they can't afford the rent? Huntsville will soon become unaffordable like Austin Texas and the research triangle in North Carolina for the average worker.

Good presentation. If housing goes up there like California because they can get it, then Huntsville will lose out like California and other over priced cities and states. When housing is unaffordable for the average income, companies have a problem getting people to join them. Therefore, companies relocate. This problem destroyes cities and states. You have a large river and beautiful lakes and close to the gulf. You do have noted entertainment that comes to your civic center. Humidity is not as bad as I saw in Wash. DC or Florida. I hope Huntsville and surrounding cities never lose their beauty or good qualities.
@admiral7599

The problem with California is the stupid zoning laws and suburban sprawl. Change that and build more condensed housing and you will solve that problem. Also provide more transportation options and walkability. This will help alleviate alot of problems with current US cities.

I'm not a local by birth but I've been here for 20 plus years and one of the major cons of this rapid growth that you're so fond of is the wildlife is suffering. I live on the edge of Madison and the new housing development just wiped out a good chunk of natural resources and because of that I have seen many many more animals on the side of the road that have been hit by cars. I understand growth is inevitable. And I also understand there are many places inside the city itself that can be revamped to accommodate this growth.

Probably one of the best videos I've seen on pros and cons. I'm a Network Engineer from San Diego. I've been doing a lot of research on Huntsville and it seems like everything I read about or see is more positive. Don't really feel like selling my future for a mortgage here.

I don't want a house in Huntsville, I just would like to buy the field to design my own house in a private place. But I don't know the city yet, can you help me showing me those places ?

Also no airport with direct flights to most cities.

Alex that certainly used to be the case. There was a saying "If you go to hell you have to connect in Atlanta". However there are now direct flights to Denver, Chicago, Detroit, DC, Charleston, Atlanta, Birmingham, Orlando, Tampa, Dallas, and Houston.

A city with a metro area of maybe 400,000 is unlikely to be a hub. You can easily drive to the Nashville airport from Huntsville.

@@movetohuntsville Could you recommend decent property management company in Huntsville? Preferably owner/investor/property manager who has system in place? Thanks in advance!

@@mjpottertx You're right. I don't think we'll ever have the population to be a hub. At least I hope not ;o) Nashville is 90 minutes north, Bham 90 minutes south.

Housing is not cheap if 2500ft for $300,000 is not cheap that's overpriced

Realtors are asking around 175.00 a sq.ft., regardless of the age of the house. New homes are 200+ a sq.ft.

Huntsville is a great escape from city problems. Atleast you can see that the city developers only care about profit and pleasing those who will be spending the most into the local economy other than that it's a bore

Very few Basements. Our 1st HSV home had a finished BSMT, after looking at 50 houses. We sold it, and went rural HSV. No BSMT now.

Love to understand Alabama better my Grand father lived their and he used to play drums for the big band era. 🥰 curious about taxes, leaders we are interested outside of the city how is housing outside of city?? I do like diversity (no wokeness) lots of great food and learning cultures, what about small and middle size businesses? Cons of Big corporations is they take away business from small and medium businesses and they change culture that makes the town so cool in the first place plus they are are imposing their politics and one world dominance. People are moving because they want to get away from the terrible taxes and government over reach believe me I know I live on west side of US, PEOPLE if you move to these neat towns that actually have morals, family culture is important please leave any woke politics dont bring it to these wonderful states. Lol love the stickies great visual 🤣 #Freedomfirst #dontchangesmalltowns

You realize that nobody can read your little post-its! Your presentation would be much better if you had visual aids, photos of the places you're talking about, i.e., nature, recreation, etc. just like realtors show when selling homes.

Is the racism as bad as Tennessee?

I don’t think so but I live my life. I could care less about a racist. I lived in the COUNTRY of AL for about 5-6 months and I didn’t have anything drastic happen.
