I think the amount of tourists and my age would prevent me from moving to this amazing country…..money and the long winters wouldn’t be an issue.The more isolated I am the happier I’ll be…😁😁

It's mostly the south that's a bit out of control with the crowds in the summer but if you moved East, North or Westfjords than there are still so many places where you're often the only car on the road for miles 😀✌

Thank you so much for your content! It really helps me to be less afraid of moving to iceland one day. Are you fluent in icelandic? If not, are you planning on being fluent some day? It would be nice to have a video about learning the language 🙏

Glad you like it! :) To be honest my icelandic is very bad, I understand some basics, but that's about it. Almost everybody speaks english here and because of how many foreigners live here, half of my friends are not even from Iceland and so I never really felt like I needed it. The reason I'm thinking of learning it now is mostly just to be able to apply for icelandic citizenship at some point. I'll definitely do a video on this sometime in the future :)

I wish you all the luck with that! I tried learning Icelandic by myself but it was really hard. I found a course at a uni in my home town that teaches Icelandic and I've improved a lot ever since! Maybe there's a possibility like that for you in Iceland? Looking forward to see more of your content :)

You should consider moving to Portugal ! They have a program called D7 Visa ! Basically it’s made for those who have an income like retired people or business owners in order to live and spend their money in Portugal ! Life is very affordable and peaceful should you consider moving there, you won’t regret it

I've met with people who relocated here with the whole family. but I know it is easily said than done and it depends on many things. But everything is possible. I think it is always better to go through a struggle and risk of things not working out rather than having regrets of never following what you want. I also need to keep reminding myself that every day...i wish you the best of luck, maybe just try look into it and see what would it take to make something like this turn into reality :)

Great video's mate thank you. Is there a great demand for welders in Iceland? If so, around which regions are those? Thanks mate appreciate it!
@janiniceland
@janiniceland 5 месяцев назад
Thanks Ryan! Honestly I don't know, but my guess is that you should be able to find a job as a welder here quite easily. The easiest to start will probably be in Reykjavík and this area thanks to the highest concentration of the companies there. On the other hand the competition there is higher too and so I would also look all around Iceland - there are companies spread out all over and sometimes it is not easy for them to find workers with certain skillset like welding who are also willing to live outside of Reykjavík.

Hi Jan, I converted Icelandic Krona's to US dollars and currently there are about 141.59 Krona's to $1.00 US dollar. The rent prices seen really high when hearing the numbers but it comes out pretty close to rent in the US, for the large cities, when you do the conversion. Thanks for the helpful tips helping to find where someone can live and also the tips to help someone find different possibilities for a job. There is another You Tuber that lives in Iceland and works on a Sheep farm helping out and also has a job doing Housekeeping for a Hostel. They seem to pay a pretty good wage for Housekeeping.
@janiniceland
@janiniceland 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for sharing Ben! Yes, I've heard some of the major US cities can easily compete with the prices in Iceland - I guess that's why often many americans don't find Iceland as pricey as they thought it'd be. But for most of the other nations it is a different story - and for me personally, coming from a lower income country I learned it is better to stop converting back to czech crowns so it doesn't sting as much when I go shopping 😀

I'm 18 from America, doing computer programming or coding for video games. I'm thinking about moving to Iceland in a couple of years. Is there any type of housing that i can get cheaply, but have a stunning view?
@janiniceland
@janiniceland 4 месяца назад
Absolutely. If you work from home then it means you can look for an accommodation anywhere on the island and focus more on countryside or smaller towns where the housing is cheaper. Usually each of the towns/municipalities has some sort of facebook group where you can post that you are looking for a place to rent and your budget and people are generally very helpful there. Good luck!

Hey! you have to check your rights to work as a student, it depends where you are from, age and more factors. Check out the links in the description of the video, I unfortunately can not help you further with this. Regarding apartment cost, - as I mentioned in the video it depends on where you are renting. I recommend again to check the links in description and do your research - feel free to ask the questions in those FB groups. Regarding living cost - search in forums, there are many threads on this. It depends on your lifestyle. Outside of renting cost you can expect to spends at least 60.000 isk per month on some basic expenses. I recommend google ,,cost of living Iceland / reykjavík'' and read through the forums :)

Rather absurd to discuss Iceland without strong emphasis on the exorbitant rate of VAT (similar to sales tax): TWENTY-FOUR PERCENT! The 11% rate doesn’t apply to much. We have a family of seven and that would be a crushing expense when shopping, dining out, and taking a taxi etc. By contrast, in Mexico, the states bordering other countries (like Baja California) have an EIGHT percent VAT on most things. Big difference even just for one or two people.
@janiniceland

Taxes in Iceland suck there's no doubt about that. But if someone's moving to Iceland it is not to find the most economic and cost efficient place to live but to be here because they really like the country, people or the beautiful nature.
