Japan is one of those countries that is nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live and work there. From what I've seen, unless you're a youtube or work from home, the work-life balance is unforgiving compared to Western standards. Working 80-90 hours a week and being expected to go out and eat and drink with your bosses and co-workers afterward sounds daunting.

That's just a misconception - Japan is no longer like this for the most part due to it being an employees market. I work 40 hours a week in Japan and full remote, can take holiday whenever I want, and make above average income. If you are a foreigner with professional skills in Japan you aren't going to be doing the stupid hours.

@@nanaholic01But you work from home so you’re an exception, just like the original commenter said.

@@jonahwillis2781 not that exceptional. WFH is about 30% of the workforce now in Japan, it’s still minor compared to the rest of the world but far from being impossible to come by, this is especially true for foreigners with professional qualifications.

Wrong wrong and wrong. The 特定技能ビザ or special worker permit visa is just a rename of the special intern visa program which was specifically for low skill labour designed to attract people from countries of South and South East Asia like poor areas of China, Vietnam, Laus, Pakestain etc to fill positions in services industries like farming argricultural work, mind numbing factory work, cooking, convenience store clerk, and construction. These positions are already widely known worldwide to be exploitative that's equivalent to the US issuing working visas to seasonal fruit pickers from Mexico - they pay you shit and you have no pathway to citizenship so of course they can't fill the positions not because the visa vetting process is difficult but people are too smart to go to Japan to do these work, especially when the yen is super weak since low skill migrant workers are always looking to send money home taking advantage of the economic differences of a developed nation vs a developing nation but that currency advantage is completely wiped out in the last couple of years.
