My girlfriend has received a job offer that requires her to work on-site in Omaha. We are currently living in Pittsburgh, and we're not sure whether we should accept the offer or not. Since we are both foreign, I am curious about how people behave towards foreigners in Omaha and what activities we could do in the city.

I hope you decided to move here. I'm a small town girl, moved to KC and didn't like it. (People there were very stand-offish.) I moved here and love it. I have never heard of any problems with "foreigners" but I'm sure there's the occasional rude person. As for activities, there are a number of different adult sports teams, there are plays and the orchestra. There's really a variety of things to do. Sorry, I'm old & don't know a lot of things young people do. But my grandkids always seem to be doing something. I think you'll like it here.

I've lived in Omaha almost all my life and we're VERY accepting of foreigners. (Considering I was born in the US either but it was to American parents. Pop was in the military lol) I FULLY encourage you to take the job! Cost of living is low! Lol

Omaha is no different than anywhere else in the U.S., in that regard. No one will really give you a second look. People say Omaha is boring. If you don't have a car it's difficult to get around.

Definitely going to be an adjustment from Southern California weather. But the winters here have a lot of nice days also, it’s not always cold and snowy.

There can be bad storms, but the winters of late have been less extreme (barring the polar vortex from a few years ago). Mind you I’m not from Omaha, but a smaller town about three hours away. Just be sure when it has snowed to add some extra time before you leave for the first time-some for digging the car out of the snow, some for scraping the windows, and some for just driving slow (gotta be cautious about black ice). However city governments are really good at getting the roads plowed once the snow stops. Obviously the main streets are prioritized over the smaller side streets. A four wheel drive vehicle is obviously a great option, but I get by with a two wheel drive.

Crawford's in the middle of nowhere. That's a compliment if that's what you're looking for. Last I knew housing prices were high because of low housing in the area and the impact of chadron on the local economy
