An excellent video.Very correct and useful advice on say, a British person wanting to live in Spain. The golden rule for everybody, irrespective of level of officially proven income, (to first get an approved and essential visa), is learn to speak, read and write Spanish. It empowers you when communicating with all types of people, both necessarily and merely casually. Wherever you decide to live in Spain, quality of life will become a lot easier.

I have been living in UK for 11 years because of work. I am Spanish and I miss my country greatly. I am thinking about going back. It is just wonderful there. The social life and the traditions, the food, the joy of living, the music impregnated everywhere, the positivity, ...and obviously the weather. THE SUN! It simply does not visit UK very often. I can't wait to go back!

@@royr8982 Hi! Glad you like Spain. Is really a very good quality place to live. The city, depends on your likes and dislakes. I am from Valladolid. It is great there, but it is cold in winter. Spring is fine and summer is very hot like the rest of the country mainly. Have a look at Valencia, if you like to be near the see. Although, inland Spain is a must, really rich in culture, history, gastronomy, art, literature.... Spain is a modern country, easy to travel and so different from north to south. You won't get bored there. People are very friendly and like socialising. We know how to enjoy life. We do not need much to enjoy, just a cup of cofee and specially good company. Madrid is great (too busy and big for me though), I particularly do not like Barcelona to live, but that is absolutely my opinion. I think It is overrated. I would invite you to travel a bit in Spain and get to know it a bit more and you will be able to decide easier. The north is absolutely beautiful with the mountains and the sea and those little coastal towns and villages. Foreign tourists always choose the south and mediterranean area, but they are missing al lot what the north of Spain offers. Having lived in the beautiful UK for 11 years already made me compare and realize what I had and took for granted when I was living in Spain. And how much I need it and miss it. To learn the best Spanish... central Spain (Castilla y Leon region: Valladolid, Salamanca, Leon, etc)

As a Spaniard, my number one recommendation if you come here is to come with a job already. Don't expect to find anything here, for real. I'd love to stay, but I'm in the process of leaving because jobs are just inexistent.

@AFVEH

@MsElke11 No one, that's a huge problem our government isn't addressing. By the time my generation retires, there will be no government pension money, and people aren't saving up because they think they will actually have a state pension when they won't. The average Spaniard in their 20-30s will live in absolute and utter poverty unless some drastic government change occurs.

Im a British chap living in Spain and life is not as hard as it is in the UK . Theres only one thing you need to "learn the language" integrate into the Spanish community.I live in a total Spanish environment .im not saying become Spanish .im saying dont close of into an expat community where your anti Spanish ,everything will cost you alot more and all is more difficult.Life here is great ,crime is literally non existent no gangs no stabbings no robberies (well veey minimal theres drugs but again Spanish attitude is alot more liberal and they help rather than hate.The weather plays a huge part in personal well being because less to worry about heating, insulating ,housing keeping warm .

Just....HUGE thank you. HUUUUUGE. About five months ago, my husband and I were going through some stressful moments with family, finances, etc. (The usual.). We've been talking about moving to Europe for years, and he finally said "Now might be the time. What's stopping us??" So, I jumped on that train REAL fast and started researching places to live. I found this video pretty quickly and watched from beginning to end...multiple times. We've set a date to move to Alicante in April, when our lease is up. We are moving (me, husband and our 1 year old pup) on the DNV and are in the process of selling everything! The way we think about the present and future has completely changed. We've done five months of intense research and are SO excited to touch down in Spain and get this adventure going!!! I just wanted to say thank you SO much for your videos and information!!!! They were there at the perfect time for us!!! :D

I used to live in Spain for about 15 years from 1995 to 2010. I moved out (to The Netherlands) during the financial crisis as Spain (and myself) was really struggling back then. I am now almost 50 y.o. and I often go to Spain just for holidays, since I still have many friends and an apartment there. I live in Italy now - which is where I was born - and I believe I will not move back to Spain until I retire. The reason is that, in my opinion, Spain is the perfect Country for somebody who just want to enjoy life, good weather, relaxation and good food. NOT if you must work there, it is not a good Country to live in as although it is true that the cost of living is generally lower than other European Countries, so are the salaries. I would never work for somebody in Spain again. Good luck with your channel!

@@royr8982 Regarding the friendliness of the people, I don't think you can go wrong with any region in Spain. They are all quite friendly, to be honest. In terms of accent, they say that Valladolid has the clearer accent. If learning Spanish without influence of any regiional accents is important to you I would then avoid Andalucia, Murcia, Cataluña, Basque Region, Galicia. They probably have the strongest accents. Good luck!

It just breaks my heart. It's interesting to me seeing how many people want to make the move to Spain because the country is all over the place and the job market is rather dry. I guess most of them are working remotely for international companies? I'm determined to take this as a break from the hustle and bustle of the Big Smoke and start planning to move to other part of the world. I lived in Germany and there i was paying total taxes next to 43%. In fact in Spain, the 50% tax rate is not completely true. Taxation works by sections. The first 20.000 of your yearly gross income is exempt, then you play 30% but only for the section from 20.000 to 35.000, and finally you have to pay 45% only for the section of your yearly gross income above 60.000. So at the end it´s not like you pay 45% of all your incomes throughout the year, only proportional parts for each section.

@@Grogu01 The cost of living is OK. I've just moved to a two bed apartment with a huge living room in the city center and I pay about €750 a month. Waiting for my 1st utility bills to arrive, but gas is included in the rent. Groceries are more or less the same as they were when I lived in Germany, but eating out and alcohol are much cheaper. Around €3 for a beer and meal around €16+ depending on which bar/restaurant you choose. Zaragoza is super safe. In 2 years I've never witnessed anything. It is quiet though, so if yr looking for more life Madrid is great (expensive my brothers in law live there) or Valencia is beautiful and it's on the coast. Would I have chosen to live here if it wasn't for my husband? Its hard to say as it's only been 2 years, and I'm still homesick from Germany (even though I'm British, I'd lived there 16 years). Thanks for watching Ayo!! From experience and what I’ve heard, if you’re an EU citizen and you don’t have a NIE number when you do your residency appointment they assign you one on the day. In my case I already had one before my residency appointment. Also some autonomous communities prefer empadronamiento before getting residency and vice versa, so can present an interesting dilemma.. nevertheless it’s overall much more straight forward for EU citizens. Good informational video. Once you have conquered all the administrational bureaucracy, emigrating is more about the 'mental adjustment' more than the former, has that is just the system.I moved to spain Benalmadena, Malaga, up in the hills above the coast in early 2019. Sadly I left 3 years later due to loosing my boy suddenly yo leukemia out there 1 year after we both arrived. Although many single/individual people immigrate abroad, I believe it is easier to settle in and remain if you go with family or have a good , trusted social group around you. With regards to water and energy suppliers, If I remember correctly there are only two - Embessa (water) and Endessa (electricity) both being expensive rates with no choice to swap suppliers due to there not being any. Prior to my unfortunate personal loss, I loved living there once I had settled and made a few close friends. Apart from the warm weather, I miss the landscape backdrop of the pine green covered mountains, blue skies fantastic evening sunsets and the clean air and the more importantly, the respectful social interactions across all generations and low crime...something which is at large in the UK and London.

Great review, I have spent the last 3 years meandering round mostly Asia and Europe and my choice to drop anchor is Spain, Malaga to be precise. The favourable climate and cost of living make it a no brainer. I’m an Irish born Australian dual citizen, both of my homelands are unsuitable, Ireland for its horrible weather, the Roman’s refused to invade Ireland saying it’s a good place to rear cattle it’s also become very expensive and is overrun by refugees and asylum seekers, Australia has become too expensive with the cost of living double that of Spain.

My wife has over 2 dozen family members who live in Barcelona. Spain is one of me and my wife’s choices for retirement (Italy, Germany, and France are other choices in Europe). We are both US citizens-she is naturalized; born & raised in Ecuador. She is eligible for Spanish citizenship after 2 years residency, as she is originally from Ecuador. I may pursue Ecuadorian citizenship as her spouse (2 years residency required) as she still has a few years before retiring; then we both could move to Spain and become citizens after 2 years, based on Ecuadorian nationality.
