A way to appreciate the Swedish winters a little better is to try out some winter sports and see if there are any that you like practice on a more regular basis.

Yes, I agree! When I was living in Sweden, I had a chance to go dog sledding in Kiruna, but I did not go which I regretted for many years! (not sure it's considered a "winter sport" but always fascinated by it :)

I would look for a place to do skiing and go one day or so in skiing school if you haven't done it before. There are often good/affordable prices for renting skis for a day. Ice skating in an indoor or outdoor ice rink is also fun.

About our Swedish fika culture. At work, at least at my place of work, we are requested by the boss to attend to the fika breaks. That is, the two mandatory coffee breaks during the work day. You all sit down in a coffee break room and talk, and bond. You might talk about work, or about what you are planning to do during the weekend. And you bond, and learn about each other. A really important part of Swedish culture, the fika break. If you don't attend it, then something is wrong, and the boss gets concerned and worried. Oh, and the word fika. It comes from "the pirate language", a made up language where you throw the parts of the words around. Something kids use for fun, it's not serious at all. "Candy" becomes "DyCan", "Cookie" becomes "KieCoo". And "Coffee" becomes "FeeCo". Or in Swedish, Fika. So Fika, FeeCo, means Coffee, but jumbled around a bit. :-)

Very fun and interesting to see your perspective of Sweden. As a Swede with a not-so-mild obsession with Korean TV :) , I'm a bit surprised that You find our winters cold. Your summers *seem* much warmer and the winters at least as cold as ours if not colder. Also we have the "cold climate animals" like big deer or elk, big bear, wolf, the big wild boar and the "wild dangerous cat type" animals in common. (Big game or big predator type animals) You have so much flora we don't even have here. Flower types and any and all bamboo types being the perfect example. But what strikes me is that in especially what I imagine being the more wild parts and deep forests in Korea, there are parts that looks just like home! Especially the (big) leafy tree forests! It's so cool to see! Anyhow, concerning the weather, we have a saying in Sweden that goes: "There is no bad weather, only bad clothes". :) Words to live by as far as I'm concerned. Then again, if I ever visit Siberia, I might, sadly, and verry reluctantly have to revise my statement! Great clip! It'll be fun to see what you get up to next! Subbed.

Being in Jönköping for your first stay in Sweden I would say helped with being accepted in society. I find that larger cities like say Stockholm their people more mind their own business, there are exceptions of course . Also coming here as an exchange student I think helped. Student parties and other events is good places to meet people. If you come here to work, then neighbours might be suspicious of you. But then, if you have a place of employment you might have good colleagues who can help you meet people in Sweden.

If you bring a rice cooker to Sweden, I suppose that is for the food you make yourself. But in Sweden we make rice, at home that is, all the time. But not with a rice cooker but in a pot on the stove. At least from our perspective, you can get the rice really tasty that way (as well) :)

Living in Stockholm i cant say that the weather are very cold but it rains a lot during the fall. With that said i once knew a korean girl that moved from Busan in Southkorea to her swedish husband in Sweden. Me and him didnt have any problems with being outside with indoor clothing such as a t-shirt in 14 degrees celsius. This korean girl however seemed to become blue in her face freezing.

Hi Lucy! It is funny that you tell about Sweden to those who are thinking about moving to Sweden or out of pure curiosity about Sweden. You mentioned our coffee break, and what you can add is that in Sweden when you work, you have two coffee breaks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with a lunch break in between. Because in Sweden, this is regulated by law with coffee breaks and lunch breaks. I don't know where in Sweden you live, but I myself live in Sweden's northernmost city, Kiruna, and here we have 8a seasons and not 4a. The seasons are after the reindeer in Sami, so the seasons are: Summer, autumn-summer, autumn, autumn-winter, winter, spring-winter, spring and spring-summer. Then from around May 20th until July 20th, the sun never sets, so it's as bright outside at 2:00 pm in the afternoon as it is at 2:00 am at night. The fact that you don't serve dishes with rice is because rice is not healthy to eat, partly because it has no real nutrition and far too many calories, and this is dangerous for a diabetic to eat. Then, as I said, rice is just common in Asian cuisine.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I enjoyed reading your comment. :) I absolutely love the Fika culture in Sweden but did not know that it's regulated by law with coffee breaks and lunch breaks! It's really cool that you live in Kirua. When I was living in Jönköping, I had a chance to travel to Kiruna for dog sledding but I did not go which I regretted for so many years! Would love to travel to Sweden again to see the northern light one day. Thanks for your comment and sharing more about Sweden😊
@ingvartorma9789

@@lucyjeonglobal Now you know that coffee breaks and lunch breaks are required by law. Every year from the beginning of December until January, many Koreans come to Kiruna to see the Northern Lights. As you may know, Kiruna has been known for a few years, when the city of Kiruna would and he has now moved. from its previous location. Since every year in December, the Ice Hotel opens in Jukkasjärvi, which is about 18 km from the city: I was born and raised in Kiruna. If you become a Swedish citizen, you have more advantages and extra good if you one day have children. Here are some benefits. As a parent, you have the right to maternity leave for up to 18 months and you have parental allowance. Then when the children get older, it is free to go to school from year 1 up to upper secondary level and the food is free at school. Then when the children go to university, there are no fees to pay to the school. You apply for a student loan and then have a full 30 years to pay back the student loan. Other benefits as a Swedish citizen, so all medicines are subsidized. Then you have high-cost protection and when you have reached the high-cost protection of SEK 2,600, you have free prescription medicines for the rest of a 12-year period. Then there is also high-cost protection when you go to a doctor, nurse, psychologist, physiotherapist and when you have the option to pay SEK 1,200, the rest of a 12-month period is to visit one of the aforementioned. Can take myself as an example, I operated on my shoulder in January and this was free, had I not achieved the high cost protection it would have cost SEK 300. Where do you live today?

That's indeed a very strange comment - what do you mean with "better"? It's most likely warmer in Korea than in Sweden, but that certainly doesn't make it better. Most Swedes enjoy and are thankful for our four seasons, ranging from warm summers to cold snowy winters. I'd never want to live in a country where the weather is warm the year around; that would be extremely boring. I grew up North of the Arctic Circle and is thus used to snow covering the ground for almost six months; that was quite normal to me.

A good way to survive through our winters as a southerner is to ask the locals how to dress. Every Swede know this sentence: "There are no bad weathers, only bad clothes". One more thing, eat more Swedish food 😉. Oh the irony, but there is truth in this. You burn a lot of calories when it gets this cold and that's where Swedish food comes in. Our food is loaded with carbs and fat. Gravy and potato with meat 😂. But it helps, i promise. We know what we're doing. Pro tip from your friendly neighbourhood Swede.
