Moving to the Fells 

The Howgills is a perfect location for you Athena and I am so so happy for you!! I've done some walking in those glorious round hills, and passed through it often when we go across to Tebay to join the M6 to go to the southern Lakes/Lancashire area. You might even be able to base your third book there. X

When people talk of luxury, on tv or magazines, they often show pictures of opulence, shiny homes and cars, where this to me, is luxury. The luxury to live where you want, surrounded by such beauty of nature, a luxury so many would be fortunate to afford. Beautiful place.

Thank you for another great video Athena, I really enjoy watching your channel and getting inspired. :) There is lots I can relate to in this one! We made a move last year from London to North Wales as luckily can work from home now teaching yoga online. So like you we were considering so many different locations(!) but got drawn to a particular small town/large village on the North Wales coast. Viewed just a couple of houses and chose the one we’re in now primarily cos of the location rather than instantly falling in love with it, like you said too. We can walk out into hills and to the sea but also to the small local shops and love that so much! I love having a local post office, hardware shop, cafe and ZERO WASTE shop too!! 😍

Congrats on your move, Athena! We're also moving to the foot of the Howgills this year (hopefully, anyway; our house purchase has been going on since last June), and this is making me so excited to finally get up there. It's such a beautiful part of the world!

Great to see you settling in. It's such a fantastic location nestled between the Lakes and the Dales, lovely in its own right, but without the crowds. I was lucky enough to grow up in Kirkby Lonsdale and regularly walked and mountain biked in the Howgills. Love your videos so it will be really cool to see your adventures in an area that I am reasonably familiar with.

I was so exited for this video and to see where you found yourself a new home, being sure it is gonna be a beautiful place. But wow, the view on the hills from your garden is so stunning. Thank you for taking us along and providing virtual holidays for us. I was thinking maybe you could ask your landlords whether they’d allow you to paint the tiles in the kitchen in a lighter and a bit more friendly colour and take down the doors off the cupboards where the inside is presentable to make the kitchen look more open and make it optically bigger. I think with the dark wood it looks tighter than it actually is. And sitting at your breakfast table looking into a friendly and welcoming kitchen somewhat is a really joyful thing to do in dark winter months. However I wish you a good time arriving at your place! In Germany we would traditionally bring over a loaf of bread and some salt to the new neighbours. So here’s to you not having to worry about the crucial things in life in your new home :)

About half an hour from where I live so know the area well. It's always an area we go to when the Lakes and Dales are going to be busy. An underrated, lovely part of the country. Congrats.

Your cottage looks so lovely. You're spot on in saying you and Harvey have an eye for making your home cosy. I always got that vibe looking at your cottage diaries. My partner, dog and I moved into a converted Creamery last year located just at the entrance to the Cairngorms. It has been lovely having the munros on our door step. It is maybe not the niché you are going for, but it would be lovely to see how you make your home nice and cosy. I feel like our home is a bit too minimal and so any cosy home inspiration would be much appreciated!

Ooh i like it ! you have been very fortunate ; amazing views and walks and convenience of having a community on your doorstep its the best option, the cottage may be smaller but it looks like there is plenty of storage ! I’m really excited for you , i wonder if there are any nice campsites the area , we haven’t been to the Howgills

Congratulations! Great choice of location. I just off the Southern edge of the Dales, but I often go up to the fells near Howgill to run. It is one of the quieter parts of the Dales even in summer and every bit as beautiful as the Lakes in its way.

We used to live in Newbiggin on Lune near to the old Railway Station. I used to walk my Collie Jack over the Fell to Cautley Spout and back. Over the years we explored all of The Howgills. We know the area very well, it is a great place to live. Wainwright described The Howgills as “Sleeping Elephants” and that is about right I reckon. Years ago we winter climbed Cautley Spout, it was in superb condition! Apart from The Fell, I would strongly recommend popping along to Kirkby Stephen to the Railway Station and explore the fantastic Settle and Carlisle Railway. Free parking, Dogs welcomed and don’t forget you will be able to buy a Locals SCR Railway Card that gives you huge discounts. You will love it there, and yes it is always quiet on The Fell so don’t tell anyone! We used to shop in Kendal at Asda once a month! In the NE Lakes these days which is fantastic, but I do love The Howgills.

You have one of the best waterfalls in the world on your doorstep, Cautley Spout. Approach from the Calf mountain, its a tiny valley which opens out and becomes more and more spectacular.

I would like to have enough money to stop the 9 to 5 job boredom and live in a nice quiet place like that...when I was with Erasmus-program at university of Lancaster for 4 months, spent every weekend hiking in the Lake-district...loved it so so much...those were happy worry-free days...

Great to see you have moved into your new abode,and slowly getting yourself organised,it takes time 🕑 but you will get there,talk of time 🕑 a little tip in saving and being able to get On with other things you have to do,if you have not got one I would get one,I have just bought a new digital Slow 🐢 cooker,Its one of the great kitchen appliances to have,you pop in the ingredients set the temperature and the time and leave it to its thing, like soups,meat dishes,the one I bought has a delay function so that you can delay the start time ,it counts down the delay time and then starts cooking the meal,so if you are out all day you can come back to a hot cooked meal,or if you are at home it frees up your time to do other things you need to get done,shopping,cleaning,walking🐾Oslo,writing your book,and at the end of all that your hot meal is ready to eat without standing over a stove all day cooking.😋🍜🍛🍲🍴. Let me know what you think of that idea 💡the one I bought cost me £30 it saves me time and money 💷 every week,so in the end it pays for its self very shortly,and the food it cooks is good and healthy for you,not like those prepared ready meals that are bought in the supermarkets,but fresh from your local butcher,and green grocer,it's far more nutritional and healthy,and can save you money 💷 . Anyway I will depart and let you get on with unpacking your worldly goods,so take care and look forward to catching up with you all soon. ✋😷👍💚
