Man Tilta Hydra has been so frustrating. Once I decided to rig to rails, I hit a roadblock because of their proprietary outer diameter. Their shock absorbers have been a pain too. Speaking to the company they haven't been much help. Thousands of dollars later for trying to build my vehicle setup, I realize I shouldn't have purchased the Hydra to begin with.

The time Tilta released the Hydra there were not much alternatives around for small budget and to run with light payload. Lot of car video guy, like myself, though this is a groundbreaking unit until we all used it and get frustrated. I still have the hydra and with my damper mod I use it for some special upright overslung shoots that the N2 and Razor can’t do.

nice video i am ab it confused. I was looking at Tilta hydra but when i read all the coments I am in the middle. I have z cam e2 cinema camera with different type of lenses and a zhyun crane 3s gimbal. Is it possible to connect either to hydra or Movmax razor and which do you prefer ? Thank you

CAN YOU PLEASE tell me, on the razor, how did you get the gimbal to mount with screen facing out? Mine is backwards and faces in towards the arm
@BeeSView
@BeeSView 19 дней назад
Just unmount the lower plate were the universal base mount it screwed on and turn the base plate by 180 degrees.

Mine has a locating screw that lock it in one way. That’s the only way it will mount

@@victortalley sounds strange, normal the 180 turn of the base mount should not be any issue. There is a Movmax WhatsApp group for Razor and N2 arms. Email me for a link to that. There I can better help with pictures etc

Hey, nice rig. What's the situation with permits in Germany? I assume this is difficult to use on public roads in Germany, right?
@BeeSView
@BeeSView 4 месяца назад
We checked that with lawyers. There are only two types of things you can attach to a car. 1st are parts that follow/fit/improve main function. Things like wheels, spoilers etc that are permanent connected to the car. Those need an E number and TÜV. Everything else not permanent attached and easy remove able counts as load. So a rig need to follow the law and guidance of load/Ladung. Any front mounting therefore is not allowed to protect pedestrians. If you still do so it up to the police to judge if you put someone in danger or it is just a fail against “Ladung ragt nach vorne”. It costs 20€.

Will the starhead screw into the center thread of a mitchell castle nut (which the center thread on a castle nut I believe is 1in)? I want to mount the pro head on a Mitchell system. I can do some modifications if needed, but can't get any answers on how big the thread diameter is on the star head.

Thank you for this comparison was the decider for me to go movmax razor 👍. However i tend to struggle a bit with the Ronin rolling alot with g force. Any tips to prevent this from happening? Stiffer motor setup maybe?

Thanks for the praise. You will need to add the external DJI GPS module to the Ronin to mitigate this behavior

Hallo Bernd! Danke
@BeeSView

I own the Hydra and I made some modifications. I now miss the damping on the vibration isolator like the movmax have. It looks like the mounts of the vibration isolator ist quite similar. Do you know if the Movmax Vibration Isolators fit the hydra arm? Movmax now sells the Movmax n2 Mini Star Vibrations isolator Pro seperately and im thinking of fitting it to the Hydra.
@BeeSView
@BeeSView 4 месяца назад
Hi Dennis, for the movmax pro head there is an adapter needed to attach it to the hydra. I did one prototype of that, you can find it on my insta. In order to run the pro head smooth you need to have some payload/weight below. It does not run good with lightweight setups.
@dennisdoerr
@dennisdoerr 4 месяца назад
@@BeeSView I am running a light setup (A7IV with 24-105) and with the weight of two vMounts batteries and my mods I am getting pretty good results. But there is still a lot of bouncing side to side and forward and back of the gimbal. With the lightweight vibration Isolator from Tilta it was even worse than my self-made one. I guess to get rid of that you need damping in those axis. I guess switching to the Razor will be the better solutions then modding the hydra.
@BeeSView
@BeeSView 4 месяца назад
@@dennisdoerr that would my recommendation in this scenario. The only situation that I use the Hydra is upright, overslung on the hood into the car is sitecar. Those are very rare things to capture for me

Hey man! Do you think I should buy the Tilta Hydra Alien Shock-Absorbing Head for a Canon C70 with 16-35mm setup? Or is it too heavy for the rubber shock absorbing? Thanks!
@BeeSView
@BeeSView 7 месяцев назад
Hey, that setup will be to light for the original dampers and to heavy for the soft rubber band based head
@hectormora3809
@hectormora3809 7 месяцев назад
@@BeeSView Ok thanks man! I think I will add some weight to the setup and use the original dampers. I hope that the Ronin S3 Pro doesnt break with the movement haha.
@BeeSView
@BeeSView 7 месяцев назад
@@hectormora3809 there are softer versions of the original silver dampers available, you might want to experiment with those. As well removing the one in the middle did help some guys was well a bit. I currently have a Hydra with a shock absorber for lighter cameras like you have. When I looked at your comparison, I have the same problem with shocks as you. Do you think it would help to buy just the MovMax Star Vibration Absorber?
@BeeSView
@BeeSView Год назад
Movmax does not sell the Razor or N2 starhead separately. The have now the movmax pro head separately but that does not fit for light cameras. Even changing the head still leave the lead for adding weigh on top or the hydra so the arm self works properly
@pognerebkofilm
@pognerebkofilm Год назад
@@BeeSView It is not true. You can buy MOVMAX N2 shock absorbing kit separately.

Which one do you think is better? i currently have the hydra, you think the movmax is a upgrade?
@BeeSView
@BeeSView Год назад
If you run a setup with medium weight the Razor is the better option to go for, yes. The hydra arm apart from the dampening needs a high amount of weight below to start working properly
@joshrainey3982
@joshrainey3982 Год назад
So you would recommend the Razor over the Hydra Alien?

If you want a solid solution without the need for heavy modifications yes I recommend to buy the Razor

@joshrainey3982 Год назад
@@BeeSView And if you don't mind heavy modifications, the Tilta has more versatile mounting hardware?
@BeeSView

@@joshrainey3982 for mounting the Razor is more flexible to match shapes of the cam car. The only thing the Hydra can is overslung/upright like from the bonnet into the car or side car into the car without the arm.

We just got the Razor and seem to be having a couple issues with it. It’s our first arm so trying to work out where we are going wrong but the footage it’s incredibly shaky? Like it’s not absorbing any bumps at all, or could our gimbal be on an incorrect setting? Any help would be appreciated 🙏🏼
