Mower Review! Powersmart 21 Inch Self Propelled 209CC Self Propelled Lawn Mower. Unbox & Assembly 

I just bought this today, my first mower! It suddenly clicked, the pride of mowing the lawn when it's YOUR mower lol. Worked great.

Just bought this for $200 and am happy i found this video. I was having trouble starting it and realized i was holding the self propel lever instead of the gas. Ugh the simple things lol 😂. Proof that RU-vid University rules the world. Thank you!

I have never seen a modern push mower with a horizontal shaft engine (as many others already mentioned). Definitely interested in getting a closer look at the mechanics.

The 209cc had my interest as well. Since the crank on this mower is horizontal the blade must be belt driven right?

Dan, would you be willing to do a quick video showing us how to find/change the spark plug on this machine? I'm not machine handy and I bought one of these and I've never been able to get it to start. The troubleshoot tells me to check the spark plug but I can't find the spark plug on the machine.

Is it absolutely essential to use ethanol free gas in this mower? What are the advantages or disadvantages? I just assembled my Power Smart 8621 today. I have not put any gas in it yet. I did not see any mention in the owners manual about ethanol free gas. I have a Honda mower that has been running on regular gas with no problems. I live in Central Florida and looked for gas station that sells ethanol free gas and found only one and it is 10 miles away. Do you have a recommendation for an additive that removes ethanol that might be found at Home Depot or an auto parts store?

I don't know why but I thought it was an electric mower at first,I have had my 190cc Troybilt lawn mower for some years now,I would like to try that mower to see how good it is,I have some rough grass.

Great job reviewing this mower Dan. It has several features that really piqued my interest given that I spent a few hours yesterday driving from Home Depot to Lowes to Tractor Supply to Ace Hdwre looking for the perfect mower with a Honda engine that I don't have to take out a 2nd mortgage to afford...... Unfortunately inventories are very thin and stores are mostly pushing Toro while the e-mowers stack up in the corner. When I saw the CCs of this Powersmart along with the price I thought ... this is it ! Dan's the man ! I like the ability to do side discharge which most mowers are moving away from. Bagging sucks imo.....so give me enough power to mulch and this one seems to have it. I also like the operator engagement controls and blade engagement.....simple and easy to use. I have found that the more bells and whistles on a mower, the more things that can go wrong....over time. The price is what really caught my eye...... but.... and there are a few buts. The wheels..... plastic.....sheeeesh ! China .... hmmmm......parts ..... supply chain issues.....damn !.. I also took a look at several other reviews of Powersmart mowers in the past and, well ...... not so good. Besides cutting out the middleman ( ie big box stores) and selling direct to get the price down ....... the notion that you get what you pay for ....... and the cheapest ain't always the cheapest kept popping into my head. Nonetheless..... you are a great product reviewer Dan. Why can't I find a brand new Troy Bilt TB240-like mower with a Honda engine these days ?

I wont lie at first I wasn't happy about not being able to cut at least at 3.5 inches tall for my ST AUG, but for under 300 to have that kind of power would be really nice.

I wonder why they went with a horizontal shaft after using vertical shaft motors for years it's very interesting and I am all for using a horizontal motor

First of all thank you for reviewing this! I will say though that I think there was a missed opportunity in this review - this is a horizontal shaft mower!! That is NEW to market (or at the very least EXTREMELY rare). You need to open and explore the gearbox on how they're making that happen. Also interested in the under-side - curious what they're doing there. It looks like the gearbox turns down to the side of the deck - so - running a belt to both the blade and the rear gearbox maybe? You'll find a lot of interested viewers - you should also call-out "horizontal shaft push mower" in your video title.

How does it work on the slopy yard?

209cc but youll lose some power with the 90 degree gearbox. Down the line, when that gearbox starts to get some wear, where do you buy replacement parts or indeed a whole new gearbox?

Power Smart self propelled .... You must must must try ethanol free gasoline for easier starting and less vibration. Also for these Chinese engines. After running it for the first 30-60 minutes. Dump out all the oil while the engine is still hot. Filter the oil though an old t-Shirt and look for metal filings. Put oil back in or toss it and put in fresh new oil. Chinese engines not made to as good tolerances as Honda etc. who they copy. So you might get those metal filings on your first run 30-60 minutes.

Coming from a 63 yr old female that wanted to upgrade her old Briggs & Stratton push mower needing something easier…it’s a total POS!!! I’ve had mine 2 weeks…paid a man to put it together for me…and he thinking he was being helpful I’m sure, threw away the box…now I’m stuck with a mower that I can’t start…I tried using for the first time today took me forevvvvvvver to get it started the first time (the man had done it but not me) then I needed to adjust as it was set too low to the ground and so had to let it die and the piece of TOTAL GARBAGE is out on my sidewalk NOT STARTING …I’ve pulled til my shoulder feels out of place and yes I primed it three times and yes had the right bar pushed and even waited 30 mins and tried again over and over!!! POS that I’m now stuck with and need a new mower all over again !!!!

I was not happy with my power smart 209cc . When assembling it was getting ready to add the oil the dipstick was very hard to get out up trying to get it out it had been cross threaded from the factory . I have tried to call customer service and no one will ever answer you are put on hold forever and still no one answerers

Why is the same model available on Walmart for $170 and it's got the worst reviews. Mostly broken wheels on delivery. No customer service. No parts. That blade hub is totally unique to that mower.

Recently purchased and broke it. The company won't answer emails or their phones.

Powersmart mowers are no good I bought one 209cc used it 7 times won't start afterwards. I tried to return and Powersmart said no. When I bought mine used couple of times told female friend she bought a 209cc used twice won't start. They refused to accept hers also. I wouldn't recommend one
