What a pleasure, re-hearing the warmth and sonorous tones of the very great de Peyer. Such a far cry from the thin, reedy and easily-achieved sounds of so many of today’s clarinettists… Thank you!
Thanks for your comments Mark! De Peyer had a marvellous tone. I've a video here of him playing the Bliss Clarinet Quintet, and a couple of recordings of clarinettist John Denman (in Finzi and Spohr). The Finzi concerto especially is a wonderful piece.
que maravilhoso momento: apenas ver o disco rodar e fechar os olhos nos momentos mais líricos; voltar ao passado e curtir o presente. Meus efusivos agradecimentos. de Florianópolis, sul do Brasil
thank you Bob! my daughter (16 months) and I enjoyed this one; she liked the picture of the horses (kept neighing throughout) and i was here for the music and sonics (both superb, btw)
@@ClassicsAndVinyl the nerd in me find it funny that this reissue uses the large tulip label even though the orginal 1976 labels had switch over to the blue/white border since about '69. regardless, it's an excellent pressing by Optimal and the performance is one of the most memorable, imho. thanks again for the work you put into these uploads.
@@cgoroo I have to bow to your superior knowledge of DG-labelography. ;o) On the subject of labels I find it slightly enjoyable that outer ring design of this DG label is a bit like an out-of-sync strobe disc with the LED light I'm using. Little things etc. Lol!
Lovely clean recording of this, one of my favourite composers Bob. You have got me into an awful habit of as soon as you post a new video, I go and check to see if I've got either the same recording or an alternative. Then I compare them, sad isn't it, well perhaps not! Nice one.
No it's not sad at all! The thing about classical recordings is that comparisons are interesting as different performers offer different perspectives on the music. What is most certainly sad is that I have over 20 different recordings of Walton's 1st Symphony. Obsessed, moi? Lol! (I'll have to post one of them here at some point!)
Absolutely wonderful performance of the artists in this masterwork. The clarinet playing of de Peyer is heavenly, just like the sound of the record. What a treasure have we lost with no more vinyl recording. Many thanks.
