On the 16th of March, 1781 at 9 0'clock in the morning the 25 year old Mozart arrives in Vienna. The last ten years of his life will be spent in this city. In this period he writes such masterpieces as the "Magic Flute", his most important symphonies and the Requiem.
In Vienna Mozart takes charge of his own works by becoming the first ever freelance composer. In Vienna he meets world-famous composers and librettists. Here is where he reaches the limits of his popularity. "Believe me…fame doesn’t last very long here …after only a few months the Viennese already want something new.", wrote Mozart to his father. After ten years of living in Vienna he acquires a sickness which leads to his death in December 1791. Mozart, who changed apartments eleven times within those ten years was buried in a pauper’s grave at the cemetery of St. Marxer in Vienna.
Mozart in Vienna traces in 60 minutes the most critical years of his life. Examining Vienna’s authentic Mozart sites such as the Mozart House at Domgasse 5 ("Figaro-Haus"), the Theater an der Wien and the Stefansdom helps put into focus Mozart’s special connection to the city and the Viennese relationship to Mozart.
With Peter Sellars, Thomas Quasthoff, Daniel Barenboim, Angelika Kirchschlager, Martin Haselböck, Robert Levin, Peter Gülke, Gernot Gruber, Volkmar Braunbehrens and Herbert Lachmayer.

Yes indeed! The Mount Rushmore of music would be: Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Wagner. But of course there are many more you could add.

for those interested this is the Requiem as composed by Mozart, with all the lines he wrote, last min of the documentary is crap, sorry. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M_0wBTkkT7U.html "With the exception of the Kyrie (which was fully orchestrated colla parte by two unknown hands after Mozart's death), this recording of Mozart's Requiem consists only of what the composer himself put to paper before his demise. Only the first movement - the Requiem aeternum - was completed by Mozart; the rest of the score consists of the fully written choral parts, a basso continuo (cello, bass and organ) line and occasionally written out bars of the upper strings and woodwinds to link the vocal material together. This recording was originally interspersed with "Sieben Klangräume," a dissonant soundscape inspired by Mozart's final days written by contemporary composer Georg Friedrich Haas. Those sections have been removed here. Furthermore, the sketch for an 'Amen' fugue intended to close the Sequenz has been included from a similar recording by Das Neue Orchester and Chorus Musicus Koln conducted by Christoph Spering. Recorded live at the Lutherkirche Bad Cannstadt on March 19th 2016 by the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester and the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart as conducted by Risto Joost. Featuring soprano Kirsten Drope, alto Sabine Czinczel, tenor Johannes Kaleschke, bass Mikhail Shashkov and organist Jörg Hannes Hahn." You may find several others attempts at completing the Requiem on youtube, listen to them, listen to the original, personally I conluded that Sussmayr version is pretty legit, I mean based on how the Requiem makes me feel. Of course there will always be a sense of wonder and "what if"or "how would it sound ? if it was finished by Mozart" P.S ofc Zauberflote is regarded as his "legacy" by the same hands that forced him to his grave

Volkmar Braunbehrens, Mozart “Historian” pretends to know that Mozart, at 5ft. 5in., was “a small person” and therefore displays a “compensatory” vanity and wore “garish” clothing because of it. Failing to realize that MOST GENIUSES are difficult and somewhat vain. Never mind that 5ft. 5in. was NOT terribly short for that era. I suspect what we are hearing is Mr. Braunbehren’s INSECURITY and VANITY.
