Without a conductor, yet these players show their exceptional caliber in displaying the thrust of the tempo in Mozart's mind. Amazingly Beautiful!

I just realized: I'm guessing the red worn by many of the musicians is a nod to the portrait of Mozart wearing a red jacket? I love it!!

Our musicians always wear a flash of red on stage, but not sure it was an intentional nod that famous portrait!

..think i heard this symphony for the first time in the early nineties.. and dozens of times since.. and as with top class pieces like this, it doesnt diminish, in fact it gets better and better! Amazing.. such talent.. to be able to write something like this.. and then play it like these guys do.. thankyou for sharing 🙂 x

Ha. No conductor, just the concert master. Quite the interesting touch.

I only noticed there was no conductor during the 4th movement!

It's not really an interesting touch (nor is it odd), it's just what one would call a historically informed performance. Conducting in Mozart's time was not what it is now (that came around Mendelssohn's time), and it was very common for the orchestra to be led by the first violin.

Arguably the most well-crafted symphony of all time. The fourth movement alone is staggeringly perfect counterpoint....

Thank you for sharing this wonderful performance! The slow movement was very lyrical, very much like Mozart intended it to be played I am sure. Looking forward to future concerts from this amazing ensemble! :-)

We allow RU-vid to put adverts on our videos so we can pay our players and keep posting performances for free! We're trying to make sure they don't disrupt your viewing experience too much, but it's a work in progress. Sorry for the interruption, but we hope you enjoyed the rest of it!

Lovely, energetic performance! And I quite like it! But where is the indispensable continuo instrument? If not a harpsichord, at least a Walter fortepiano, such as Mozart himself owned and would have used. ...
@herbertglass4941
@herbertglass4941 Месяц назад
No continuo would have been used in the late symphonies, not even in many of the early ones. Keyboard could never have cut through the brass.
@tjwhite1963
@tjwhite1963 Месяц назад
@herbertglass4941 I disagree. Emphatically. Even Beethoven routinely called for an orchestral continuo, right through to his Emperor Concerto No. 5, composed in 1809 and premiered in 1811. Continuo playing, whatever modern conductors and players may think, was in fact routine and de rigeur throughout the entirety of the Eighteenth Century, and even well into the Nineteenth Century.
