Symphony No. 19 in E flat major, K. 132, was a symphony composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in July, 1772. The symphony has the scoring of two oboes, four horns (two of them uniquely written in "E flat alto"), and strings. There are four movements:
1. Allegro, 4/4
2. Andante, 3/8
3. Menuetto: Trio, 3/4
4. Allegro, 2/2.
The first movement opens with a motif that Mozart would later use at the beginning of his twenty-second piano concerto in the same key. The exposition is brief and there is no repeat. The development focuses on new material. There is also an alternative slow movement, marked Andantino grazioso. The tempo marks in the first, second and fourth movements were written in the hand of Leopold Mozart. The finale is a French rondo in seven part (ABACADA) form. Each part of the rondo is repeated except for the final A.

The entire piece is a sophisticated gem, but the third movement, 9:29, is that true rarity: Once heard, never forgotten.

At 11:14 there is a very striking and memorable switch to modal harmony that gives the rest of the movement a very archaic feel

@@heron6462 I know what you mean... It almost sounds as if it was lifted from a Renaissance dance suite.

@cde123cde Yes, it does have 4 movements. The one starting at 18:10 was the original second movement of the symphony, but Mozart replaced it with a newer one (for whatever reason). I included it here just in case some people wanted to hear it, and very few people have heard it because only the newer one is most often recorded.

another relatively neglected masterpiece by the young master. Unlike most prodigies, Mozart was a fully formed artist by his early teens. Works like K.132 are the proof...the second movement is one of the most noble, serene creations in the history of Western music. While Marriner and the ASMIF do an adequate job here, the best recording is by Böhm and the Berliners. Captured in the magical acoustic of the Jesus Christus Kirche, the golden strings of the Berliners soar. The K.130's are pretty special - they include the horn laden Divertimento K.131, the 3 "Salzburg Symphonies" and this ingenious piece of gallantry...Mozart was clearly on something of a roll.

Mozart under the inspiration. Just another talented, another gifted composer. Mozart was the most inspired composer in history. This is merely his gift without the melodic genius that made him the best of all time. Any artist, even Mozart, is at the mercy of their gift.

no no exactly no bullshit. Music is a pure skill. If Mozart had just been gifted his intelligence, he would be a bullshit, just a lucker. But he's a genius.

I love Mozart's symphony work in the early 1770's. This is Mozart at his best. I like it better than his piano concerto's.

I wish I could indicate you the musicians of this recording. I know 3 others who are playing both slow movements: 1. Berliner Philharmoniker, Karl Böhm; 2. Bamberger Sinfoniker, Bernhard Conz; 3. Prague Chamber Orchestra, Sir Charles Mackerras. The earlier slow mvmt (5.) which I like very much is given slower than here by 2., faster by 3. (too fast to my taste). The sound just as the tempi here would fit to Sandor Vegh and the Camerata Academica Salzburg.
