It can be sooo beautiful and compared to Scandinavian languages it doesn’t sound too harsh either. Not in my ears anyway which is why I chose to become an interpreter and make a profession out of speaking it. As for this song/performance and the guy singing here, I find it absolutely FASCINATING how, as an American, he got that one job in Germany decades ago, when he was still brand new to the language and forced to pick it up phonetically, yet he managed to sound absolutely flawless with it, almost right from the get go (if u look at and listen to performances of his like this one).. THIS IS JUST SO RARE AND BEYOND IMPRESSIVE, CONSIDERING HIS AGE AND THE FACT HE GREW UP IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE & A COUNTRY LIKE THE US. Wow, just wow.. Not only is he an amazing actor, singer and performer, he’s also managed to lose his accent and sound like a native (even BETTER) in a completely different language, which he only started to learn while well in his 20s 🤷🏼♀️ It does make me wonder: Is it just him or is there a link between how our brains, our “inner ear” connects to the different notes and tunes in music, opposed to how different language tones and accents are perceived and processed 🤔🤔🤔

@michaelannco I learned German in large part from listening to him. Then when I met him in Vienna I got really confused about whether to address him (fellow American in a German-speaking country) in English or German! The conversation ended up going like this: "Ich habe von 'der Glöckner' Deutsch gelernt!" "Wirklich? Ich auch!" ("I learned German from 'Hunchback of Notre Dame'!" "Oh really? Me, too!") :)
Keiner der anderen Sänger hier auf YT kommt da ran. Dieses Lied kann man nicht einfach singen, das muss man als Gefühl in sich tragen und dann auf der Bühne befreien. Andere mögen perfekter singen können, aber ihnen fehlt das Herz.
Ich finde es trotz alledem wichtig und erstrebenswert, *auch Sängern wie Drew* Lob und Bewunderung schenken zu können *ohne* direkt im Nebensatz dann Vergleiche zu ziehen, die das Werk und Talent *anderer* Künstler degradiert. Immerhin geht es - gerade in diesem Bereich der darstellenden Kunst um Meinungen und persönliche Vorlieben, die so individuell unterschiedlich sind wie wir Menschen selber. Mein Wort zum Sonntag 🙏🏻🤷🏼♀️

Ich hab ihn gestern Abend im Raimund Theater im Foyer getroffen - wow was für ein toller, total netter Mann. Er hat sich tierisch gefreut, daß ihn jemand erkannt hat *grins*. Er war da mit seiner Frau Ann Mandrella, um die REBECCA Vorstellung zu sehen. Er hat sich sogar nett mit mir unterhalten. Wow, ich freue mich schon so auf "Rudolf" Ende Februar!

Yes indeed, and every time I've seen him in RL he has been as nice as can be. I love it that he has a little attitude here, it goes with the build-up of the song in a way. This was the first performance of Sarich's I saw, he's awesome.
Liebe VBW, wenn TdV abgesetzt wird könntet- nein SOLLTET - ihr Mozart wieder aufnehmen und hier habt ihr auch eine phantastische Besetzung zur Hand!! Aber egal, was ihr auf die Bühne bringt, sorgt dafür, dass Drew eine ordentliche Rolle drin kriegt!

Fuck almighty!!!!! This is amazing!!!! My God, I didn't know Drew could do that, he's fantastic!!!!! I haven't heard anything from Mozart before (though I am a Elisabeth and Rebecca fan), this is amazing!!!!
I've seen him live in Les Miz, Rudolf, and TdV, so I knew he could sing & act. But damn - I hadn't realized he was so pretty too! (You can't see someone's real looks under the von Krolock makeup, Rudolf is average-looking at best, and Jean Valjean is *definitely* not a role that lets the sexy shine through...)
The song, I mean. Then as the song builds in intensity and he starts screaming his N**** off, the audience shuts up. THey have to. It's too good. He walks off the stage at the end like, "Take that, Mo Fo's."
