Like you, I have no problems with KOs. When I buy one, it's for my collection and my enjoyment, I never try to pass them off as originals. This looks like a really fun figure, Marketplace usually has some great deals...if you get a legit seller. Nice to see the return of "That's Just Prime".
I love the idea of a Starscream head to recreate that one episode, that's a fun thing to have. Great review, I don't collect many MP because of the price, so the KO stuff kind of appeals to me a bit more. And this looked good enough quality wise. The transformation looks painful, but you did great on camera. Great work Bert!

Cool to see you messing with the MP-44 mold! Be careful with the waist swivel, lots of reports of the joint shearing off and I’ve had 2 break on me over the years
I remember seeing this figure at a Disc Replay, albeit a complete one. I don't remember the price, but I'm not sure if I'd get an MP-44 since I now own MP-10.
Honestly if you want an "MP-44" style figure, I much more highly recommend Transform Element TE-01 or Magic Square Light of Peace. Thanks for watching!
This is a pretty awesome figure. As for KOs, the vast majority of my Masterpiece collection is KOs: Optimus, Nemesis, MP52 Starscream, MP46 Blackarachnia, MPM3 Bumblebee, MPM4 2007/RotF Optimus, MP36 G1 Megatron, MP43 BW Megatron, MP56 Trailbreaker, MP27 Ironhide, MP30 Ratchet, MP17&19 Prowl & Smokescreen, MP32 Optimus Primal, MP39 Sunstreaker, Jinbao oversized Gravity Builder (Devastator), Jinbao oversized Feral Rex (Predaking). Only legit MPs I have are MP24 Starsaber, MP18 Bluestreak (Hasbro Asia), MP40 Targetmaster Hot Rod (Hasbro Asia), & Hasbro's Year of the Goat Soundwave and his Minions...a set that's predominantly clear plastic that's pretty bad quality. I got the first version MP44 KO, so it's got the fat backpack with all the voice clips (and an apparently extended selection of English clips compared to the measly SIX of the Takara official). Yes, the transformation is nightmare fuel, but it works...when it wants to, that is. Being unpainted makes the tolerances a bit off-kilter. 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ But, it's that fourth version that really annoys me!! Check it: • First version: Almost 1:1 to the actual MP44; there's a pretty stupid QC flaw/dumb design decision that stretches across all versions...the forearms have one particular panel where the edges aren't done correctly (they come to a sharp corner instead of being angled to work with the hinge they're part of; these have to be filed down a bit to have the proper clearance/tolerance). And the blast effects have a LED light and battery so you can light'em up, something that the legit never had. (This is the same company that did the MP43 BW Megatron KO, Toys Mage or Wan Xiang; that had a battery & LED in his blast effect, too) • Second version: Chrome removed in favor of silver paint, this would be the way going forward. The arrows on the forearms are orange, which is also the way going forward; turns out that the V1 and the legit MP44 *have* the clear orange, but they're painted red. Why? Dunno. • Third version: Silver hips & thighs instead of white. This is also where that outline style MP10 KO Autobot symbol debuted (the first two had the white backed one, exactly like the 1:1 & oversized MP10 KOs). Also, the battery and LED light that were in the blast effect parts for the V1 & V2 have been removed, and would be the way going forward. • Fourth version: Literally MP49 Black Convoy/Nemesis Prime. That's the one with no electronics and a flatter backpack (note that the legit MP49 doesn't have electronics or speaker grille holes, BUT, the backpack is just remolded to account for that, it's otherwise identical to MP44). Jetpack and Starscream intakes no longer work properly - I salute your efforts, but they don't fit at all on my Black Convoy, so I gave his jetpack to my MP12G (G2 Sideswipe) and the intakes just stay in the box. Other colors made their debut here: Ultra Magnus (based on the MP10U KO as there was never a legit white MP10), Mode EVA (MP10E Convoy Mode EVA, the Transformers 35th x Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover), Shattered Glass (MP10SG, aka Wicked Purple Convoy), and eventually regular ol' Optimus (back to white hips & thighs), and there's rumor of either an entire fifth version or just a repaint of V4 that'll effectively be MP44S (G1 toy colors). The smaller backpack changes the transformation steps considerably...and that's even worse nightmare fuel than the regular version!! Sooo...other stuff: • The waist rotates, but you have to unlock it to get the full rotation, same for the forward ab crunch; this was a dumb design decision with the legit MP44 mold as well. Also, you'll need to file that part that locks in EVER SO SLIGHTLY so it works more smoothly, it's a little too snug fitting and part of the break risk in the waist. • The head change...yeah, this is really big in dumb design decisions: you'll have to dismantle the head and do a bit of filing along the sides of the block to get this gimmick working correctly. The way it's SUPPOSED TO work is that you can slide one head off and slide another one into place...not yank the whole thing off the ball joint. No idea why the manufacturer made this dumb design decision. • The weapon storage for the ion rifle...is a bloody JOKE. Both options for robot mode and vehicle mode look prohibitively & laughably dumb. MP10 curbstomps this thing in that regard.
Like you I bought the KO version of this mold to experiment it at a reasonable price and liked it that much I've just gotten the MP44 S toy color deco like 20 mins ago and my biggest takeaway from the short time I've spent with it is actually that the KO is amazing , side by side with the legit option there's very little to separate them quality wise . Maybe I got lucky with mine but it's really good
Great review as always. I'm glad I have the KO. The transformation is not very fun, and I can never seen to get all the pieces lined up at the same time in truck mode. But for 1/4 the price of the overpriced original, it's a good figure.

It's nice, I got one from ShowZ, like 80 bucks. I don't like the transformation, but the mold looks great in robot mode. Slightly better then the magic Square I think. Just because of some veeeery subtle sculpting differences.

I think they call this the Version 3 cuz it has the new backpack and white legs and other cartoon features. Version 4 is the new backpack with silver legs like the toy version. And I think it has some weathering maybe?
