European NATO countries did extended testing between 5.7 vs 4.6. They all concluded that 5.7 were superior. This conclusion was not well received in... Germany. H&K also lobbied with the German military for imposing it's veto against the standardization of the FN 5.7 in NATO. That's bad, because FN did the perfect smg pistol round, and H&K did the perfect platform with the MP7. Since these two are in big competition for the modernization of SMG we will never see the ultimate combo : an MP7 in 5.7. We can only dream until the patents expire, because some companies will definitely do it, then the game will be set for cutting edge SMGs.
@@Scroolewse im not sure but i think it might be an old prototype of the MP7 so it looks reasonably different, at least that's what i rememeber hearing
@@megafro6999 The MP7 from HL2 is pretty much a Combine-redesigned weapon, which explains the two barrels. Pretty much the other weapon that the Combine uses that is unique in design alongside the AR2, while the USP Match and the SPAS-12 retain their original designs.
"It's gonna be important to note what my relationship is with Heckler and Koch, and that is absolutely nothing because they don't give a shit about me." - Garand Thumb, and the rest of the American gun community.
@@seyance9820 Said the first two little pigs. A free citizen shouldn't need a 'good reason' to own anything. They certainly shouldn't need a 'sporting' reason.
@@famguy5937 I'm gonna make you sad when I tell you I'm in the UK... It's typical HK still, I'm in a police force that uses them so unfortunately it ain't mine. They're great to shoot, 4.6 is a little snappier than I expected for such a small round but they're very accurate guns. Really light and nice to carry all day, but in extremely jealous of the full auto 😭
My Dad's famous quote. "This is where science prevails over the untrained mind." Sometime some really fucked up shit happens right after he says that. Women order sex toys, real men order an MP7. Your my hero yet again sir.
GT: “My relationship with H&K? They don’t give a shit about me.” Every gun owner ever: “yeah man join the club lol” On a real note, it’s amazing how poorly HK does in PR. If you aren’t DoD or LEO, they do their best to ignore you.
H&K generally has a bit of a reputation for being arrogant, in germany as well. I suspect that half the drama around the G36 was fueled by government agencies being pissed at H&K; partially because of H&Ks pretense as if they are germany's lone small arms supplier, but also because they actually screwed up QA/delivery deadlines with some programs, like the HK417 derived DMRs (both german military and police ordered them). Arrogance and not quite delivering is a bad combo. They generally do make great, if expensive, guns though. They got screwed with the G36-BS, so Im kinda glad their HK416 will likely be the new german service rifle. And its just fantastic gun from what I can tell.
A good chunk of it is the German export laws combined with American import laws. It’s a massive headache for them to bring in anything. Selling to police and military is a lot easier
I guess it depends on the service rep because when I had an issue with my VP9 HK went the distance and took care of everything for me at no cost. They even mentioned how they were cleaning house with the reps to change this stigma most non DoD/LEO people think about them.
The MP7 was designed as a replacement for the MP2 in the German Army (simply put: the Uzi), for tank crews, military police, special forces, logistics-personell driving trucks etc. - mostly people either a little behind the frontlines, working in confined spaces or with special missions which require compact arms.
I think it was not meant for special forces... like when the MP5 was clearly made with specialforces in mind. But I might be remembering wrong. The MP7 was made when we thought that Russian VDV (Paratroopers) and soldiers would all get equiped with chestplates as armor.... so neither a pistol nor a MP2 would work as a Personal defence weapon for truck drivers, mechanics, airmen and such. So they made the MP7 specifically with the goal to put a tiny bullet through a armor chestplate... So basically THIS is not a weapon for the homedefence fetishest or civilian guy at all. UNLESS you get visited by burglers and rapists with kevlar vests and solid armor chestplates, now and then... Civilians buying the MP7 is a bit off...You guys are just making H&K more money...without getting something fitting your usecases in return.
@@TremereTTYeah sure but MP7 is still a Low recoil High capacity compact Weapon. Not the best at home defence or any practical civilian application but not bad at all
@TremereTT all rifle calibers penetrate Kevlar anyways so not sure what ur getting at. They were just trying to develop a sub gun that could also penetrate Kevlar which had not been done yet. It's not "too powerful for home defense" by any stretch. Magnitudes less kinetic energy than other rifle rounds civilians use for home defense.
I've been following GT for a while, but I wasn't here at the very beginning. Where did the joke of Travis being Mike's dad come from? I've always wondered
That was a short video, I always thought that short systems were cool, but thanks to you I do now appreciate the versatility of systems that keep the bullet going a little longer, thanks for the education.

@@ThatWhichObserves would you look at that? It's a new day, and imma be that guy. The MP7 and its round, as well as the P90 and its round, were developed for a contract to arm rear echelon troops against the threat of Soviet paratroops wearing kevlar vests, so we gunna shoot em in the chest and it'll be just fine!
@@thepewplace1370 today im going to be that guy. The end users that I work with say you have to “pepper the target” for it to be effective unless you shoot them in the face. Ive never shot anyone with one so I can’t speak from experience.
@@connorheadlee3101 I’m saying period. If you are shooting them with an HK7 to the thoracic cavity, it takes a bit more time holding/pulling the trigger , to put the person down, unless you shoot them in the face. Being AP doesn’t mean it’s more deadly once it enters flesh. In fact a lot of times being AP means it’s less effective once it enters flesh. The people that get issued these today in the real world are not back echelon and support types. They are face shooters.
At the end of the video, I got a text. It was my bank alerting me that my account just ran into the negative like Ron Jeremy lathered in coconut oil after little Macaulay. Damn HK is expensive!

@@TheSmokingMustache I would imagine the DOD regulation and ITAR+ patent restriction+ the ATF have something to do with it. It's a friggin laser beam. Imagine being teir 1 SOF and getting the trigger time to meet the qualifications to take it on operations. The operators who use these probably shoot $50k of ammo per year. To put it in perspective. When marcinko said ST6 was created they ended up with 75 operators. Their ammo budget was bigger than the entire marine corps ammo budget at that time. 75 dudes had an ammo budget bigger then the entire USMC ammo budget at the START of devgru.
I think this is a amazing platform, PDW, the MP7 and P90 are a amazing low recoil high velocity and can be tailored for any job with the proper ammunition.
@@grimfist_one P90 feeds from the top, the magazines are not practical imo.. don't get me wrong it's a iconic weapon, but I can't see myself grabbing it over an MP7 the ergonomics are just all around better.... plus p90 mag pouches look horrible 🤮
They already did that. CMR 30. I have one and from the moment I picked it up it was obvious that they had an MP7 poster of the wall as they designed it.
@@ericgrumbles447 I know my buddy just told me about that. And it's funny because .22 wmr is about as hot as most commercial 40 gr 5.7x28 anymore cause they neutered it & .22 wmr is a fraction of the price
@Brooke B I'd really like a super short SBR that can defeat body armor as a personal defense weapon, and is lighter than a .300 blk. In terms of the gun and ammo loadout.
@@LeadFarmer_84 Its definitely an extremely light and handy weapon, and much easier to use than a pistol, but im not sure you want that kind of ammo for home defense or so. Low firepower and high level of penetration, both of which can be dangerous in different ways.
" If you've ever been obsessed with an MP7. " No. MP5. I've been obsessed with that gun. It's all SOCOM: US Navy SEALS's fault for that. Played that game as a six year old and never got over the MP5 I thought was so neat on the first level and it's been 18 years.
The mp7 is really popular tier 1 weapon to this day. I'd imagine the mp5 got phased out when the mp7 was trialed by tier 1 operators. The mp5 is my dream gun for sure. Some kids had Ferrari and Lambo posters as kids. I had special forces posters as kids. It's most likely seen combat for the past 20+ years. If devgru and delta fields it. Its probably better then the mp5 in every way possible :(
I would have liked to see a comparison between the FMJ and the AP round for penetration and wound cavity. The AP round after all is why this gun exists in the first place.
@@joepublic5953 Yea I wonder what does he do that allows him to have access to all those different and rare firearms? He lives in Canada which has become highly restricted. Im guessing maybe a Firearms dealer or manufacturer??
i really would of thought this would be the channel with footage of the new 6.8 round tests. Garand prolly looks like a tier one operator in his sleep plus he knows how to review a weapon from tip to butt in his words lol.
Seal team 6 brought a few of those on the raid that killed Osama, MP7, 416s and a two MK 48s, probably had a shotgun and long gun as well, but the 416 and MP7 got all the love.
When someone asks what your watching and you say, “ballistic testing”. Instead of guys saying that slapping gel blocks sounds like slapping their asses😂
The SCAR 17 would be a bigger success if it didn't have a reciprocating charging handle and was a few hundred dollars cheaper. Honestly the recoil looks really controllable for a battle rifle.
I think the marketing drones would call that a semi-reciprocating charging handle. 🤣 You can see the same thing happen in the Forgotten Weapons footage of the MP7 firing
Something about Garand Thumb squaring up behind those gel blocks, smacking them like a hot booty, and then dumping full auto fire into them JUST DOES IT FOR ME!!! 🤣
