@@Medcram I'm pointing it out not to criticize your presentation, but I think these numbers get misinterpreted by lay-people who don't understand that a 1% mortality rate in hospitalized patients is not unusual. There are MANY common pathogens as you know that have higher than a 1% mortality rate in hospitalized people. When you say a 3% CFR, this is also accurate but tends to be a gross overestimation of actual risk. I think it's important to point these out given what happened with Covid. We need to be particularly careful not to exaggerate risks for the lay public who will then go on to pass horrible laws from misinformation. Before the Pandemic I was in the "better safe than sorry" camp, but after seeing how much damage the "safe" route caused. It might be better this time for us to put things more in perspective for people.
No, not only here..... MPOX/Monkeypox, in either Clade (version) is not a world public health threat. Israel with US military support is a true public health threat, leading to transmission of POLIO. Deal with that, if you dare!
The very point of this announcement by the WHO is to do something about it so that doesn’t happen. It’s literally one of four of the criteria for declaration. We stated this in the video.

@@kevspencer5744 But the WHO and other organisations did do something about Mpx in 2022, hence it was contained. The groups most affected were notified and there was good vaccine take up and awareness and some behavioural change. But this is a new outbreak of a different, more severe variant of mpox that is more easily caught, not just by sex, and is affecting the general population. So it's good that the WHO have drawn attention to the global threat, helping to mobilise funding for vaccination and healthcare programmes. The problem is the disease not the WHO. Don’t shoot the messenger!
Firstly, it depends on what you mean by CLD. On the NIAID website it says, "The term “chronic Lyme disease” (CLD) has been used to describe people with different illnesses. While the term is sometimes used to describe illness in patients with Lyme disease, it has also been used to describe symptoms in people who have no clinical or diagnostic evidence of a current or past infection with B. burgdorferi . Because of the confusion in how the term CLD is employed, and the lack of a clearly defined clinical definition, many experts in this field do not support its use." (Source: What is "chronic Lyme disease?", Chronic Lyme Disease, NIAID). I wish I could link it but if you go to their website and just search "chronic lyme disease" you'll find it. I've seen the term used by the alternative health crowd to promote questionable "treatments" for patients for a vague collection of symptoms. So it's use is problematic. Certainly when I hear it, my brain shouts "scam!". Because a lot of the time it is. That's probably why nobody is talking about it.

Clean drinking water, good nutrition, and access the health care have made more of a difference in pandemics than vaccines. The WHO used to quarantine these outbreak areas. Do they still do that??
The newspapers in Sweden say that the old smallpox vaccine that we got up until the 1970's could still be protective against modern day Mpox. Only risk groups are being vaccinated against Mpox as of right now in Sweden.
I was vaccinated against Small Pox sometime after my birth in 1962. Does that mean I might possibly be somewhat immune or at least display some resistance to M pox?

@@celestelajoie339Except the people who are infected with it living in areas where they may not have access to medical care/good medical care, the people dying from it or the people watching their infected loved ones suffer. So yea, there's privilege involved. Also, ignoring something sure as hell doesn't make it go away. It's not going too stop it from spreading around the world and potentially to where you live. Ignoring it isn't going to keep you or your loved ones safe. You don't just ignore something because it might seem scary or you think it won't happen to you. If you lived in an area prone to wildfires, would you just ignore the danger when it's fire season or would you take what precautions you can in order to try to keep your land and home safe? If you had known symptoms of cancer, would you ignore them, hope it just miraculously goes away or would you see a doctor? Not sure why something like this should be any different. We plan for potentially dangerous events all the time in our lives from having smoke detectors in our home to having car insurance to teaching our kids about stranger danger, etc. The smart thing to do is to educate yourself, take what precautions you can and have a plan in case the worst does happen. Acknowledging what's going on, planning and preparing for it doesn't mean you have to make your whole life about it. You do these things and continue to go about your life, prepared in case you need to take action later. Had the people in charge in America not ignored covid in the beginning things never would have gotten as bad as it did here during the pandemic. Had they taken action right away so many people wouldn't have died and maybe they wouldn't have had to go to such extreme lengths with lock downs too keep us safe. Instead though, we had a president who treated Covid like it wasn't real which caused a large portion of our population to do the same for months until things got out of control here. But sure, go ahead and ignore it because that worked so well last time.
@@CGTNinEnglish the numbers don’t lie and the OP doesn’t outline a specific theory, fact is American tax payer foot the bill for a lot of this kind of thing and at least 50% of the time the effort is worth it and we receive a net benefit whether we realize it or not. The issue with “emergency” declarations and spending my money is as noted in the video many bureaucratic controls are removed in order that money moves more quickly while ignoring why those controls existed in the first place. If we fight problems better with less bureaucracy then why have it?
as a reminder: many other illnesses do immune damage - covid, Mpox, Measles, HIV... bit not all work the same way. however, with most people having been exposed to covid (often repeatedly) you almost have to assume that every victim is somewhat immune compromised.

No, we don't all know that becuase serious viruses existed before we had gain of function research. Also, as controversial as this research is, I'm not sure how you can plan ahead for pandemics without being able to predict future generations of viruses. And that's what gain of function research is for. They're trying to develop vaccines and treatments *before* we're actually infected with the stuff.
Funny thing is that someone I know told me several weeks ago that MPox was being amped up with gain of function and the plan was to release it in Africa so it can move out around the globe by people using air travel. Once they’ve got in into different countries they will then stage another lockdown. The Congo hospital study shows that 52% of cases are women, unlikely to have been infected by gay/bisexual males. No data on the sexual orientation of those infected in the Congo is available, but all the evidence points to transmission in the general population. Not a single gay/ bisexual male outside of the Congo outbreak has been infected by this new clade 1b variant. How do you figure then that it is largely spreading through that sector? That makes no sense.

Yes, and more importantly, we need to get a coordinated effort for resources so that this can be contained. It also involves getting the word out that risky behavior needs to be curtailed.
That’s why the schools were i live are pushing for kids to get vaccinated this year. Like if you don’t get all your vaccines you can’t start on time you can get an exemption form but it only for two weeks. The elementary and middle and high school are also holding a vaccine drive so this makes sense.
How does the mpox infection actually occur? Also, why aren't women considered "at risk," as indicated by the ACIP (@14:50)? Or straight people? Why is it only men who have sex with men? The other risk factors listed may be just as applicable for them, so that's what raised the question for me as to exactly how the infection occurs.
It isn’t just gay men at risk. 52% of pateients in the Congo hospital study were women. The vast majority of cases in this outbreak are among heterosexual people.

@@tulasipriya You should be asking about the Congo as that's where the new clade 1b is rampant and that's what the WHO have declared a global health emergency. The new variant is both more infectious and causes more severe disease than the clade 2 variant that came out of Africa in the global outbreak of 2022. The ACIP is part of the CDC which coordinates healthcare response across the USA. So the vaccinations they recommend are based on the previous clade 2 outbreak from 2022 which disproportionately affected gay men in the USA. That 2022 outbreak has been successfully contained by healthcare measures and effective vaccination in the at risk groups. The new clade 1 Mpox is spread more widely across the general population in parts of Africa and, being more infectious, is spreading in families and crowded communites, e.g. In refugee camps. It has affected children the worst, again unlike the clade 2 variant. This is not sexual spread but community transmission, so of greater concern as harder to control. There is also sexual spread of clade 1, mainly through female sex workers who make up quite a large proportion of hospital cases currently. That would be heterosexual spread as gay men don’t generally pay for sex with women. Gay men have no particular profile or risk, so far, from the evidence of what is happening in Africa. Luckily there have been no clade 1 infections yet in the USA so no need for too much concern. If it does come to the USA and start affecting a subset of MSM through sexual or close contact transmission, then they would be targeted for information/ vaccines. Does that help? I know what you want to hear is that this is a gay STI but the evidence is clear that this virus is not affecting “only men who have sex with men”. You know that perfectly well, so stop with the faux questioning and just come out straight with your bigotry.

Because it’s an election year in America and nothing happened until all of a sudden the establishment candidate is down in the polls. Also the name change from the now-widely recognized “monkeypox” to “mpox” is an act that suggests something is up. Probably that if people knew it was monkeypox the establishment powers couldn’t get the same legitimacy for more draconian policies to keep themselves and their worldview in power.

Unfortunately, with the example of recent decades, from that requested funding of $4B (or anything remotely like it) it’s likely a healthy % of it would find its way out of Africa and into bank a/c’s in Switzerland, Cayman, Channel Islands and other tax havens…
Also, the objection to the wording “homosexual activity” is that it is inaccurate and misleading. A monogamous homosexual couple has really no more risk of contracting Mpox than a monogamous heterosexual couple. If you consider say chlamydia, which is a true STD with high rates of transmission among young heterosexuals, nobody would characterise it as spreading through “heterosexual activity”. It is spread sexually and a lot of young heterosexuals have been unfortunate to catch it, yes, through their sexual behaviour. The trouble is that calling it “heterosexual activity” or “ homosexual activity” is too blanket. It's a small subset of gay men engaging in risky sexual activity who caught the clade 2 variant in the 2022 outbreak, not homosexuals per se, still less “homosexual activity”. The wording then conveys a blanket disapproval of such activity regardless of context. Also the word “spread” is stigmatising. When a heterosexual catches a STD they are seen as an unfortunate 'sufferer', when a gay man catches the same disease they are described as a guilty ‘spreader’. It is infuriating and exhausting to have to keep pointing this out.

2 questions: What restrictions and testing methods are in place in DR Congo and West African countries to prevent infected travelers and migrants from boarding international flights? Are people who got the smallpox vaccine way back in the 1950s protected against Mpox?
The incubation period is too variable to be blood testing every exiting traveler who has a fever though if you really wanted to contain this thing that’d be a decent place to start. Generally though it seems like from the data he sighted if folks would focus on vetting the health of their sexual partners we’d be a lot better off. Maybe the major religions had a good idea in that we ought not just be porking everyone all Willy Nilly
I’m not sure about your first question, but there is evidence at least anecdotally that remote vaccination against smallpox was effective in the past of protecting people from symptoms of mpox.
In the 60s and 70s we had vaxes for small pox, polio, measles, mumps, Tetanus and who knows what. They were tested extensively. I took more when going overseas. I may get the shingles shot. Other than that, I think I've had enough.

Is small pox a regular child’s vaccination these days? Don’t remember my kids getting these in the ‘80’s. I was born in the 1950’s and children got small pox vaccinations in the 1960’s. I have the scar on my arm to this day. I don’t think my grandkids get that vaccine.

At about 15:40, the doc discusses a report showing who is recommended to get the vaccine, and under the "For people 18 and older with the following risks" there's a bullet point about "sex in association with a large public event." What does that mean? (Thank you to anyone who chooses to respond and share your knowledge; and thanks in advance for respecting that I'm asking a question to try to understand, and don't support bashing any group for how they choose to live their life.)
2 years ago that outbreak was associated with gay /bi men at festivals where there is a tendency for multi partner sex .Spreads like wildfire and then they may carry on the behaviour (multi partners) when not at the place of infection ..Hope that helps .The behaviour is a risk for clade 1b also .
