A deep dive into the sound work of the Halo games, with a special focus on Halo Infinite. Few sci-fi universes in games, or any medium, are as immersive as Halo, and sound plays a big role in that. This unique opportunity to hear from the audio team at 343 Industries illustrates how all this is brought to life. Our featured guests include:
Sotaro Tojima, Audio Director
Kyle Fraser, Lead Sound Designer
Robbie Elias, Senior Sound Designer
Jomo Kangethe, Senior Sound Designer

Thank you for inviting all of them, I'm glad that I found this, these folks have made some marvelous stuff at 343 and I always wanted to hear them explaining their process, sharing their passion and teaching us about what a role like this requires. Even though they're quite different, Halo 5's weapons had a unique charm that I'll always cherish (e.g. drawing out the Prophets' Bane is so damn cool, the sound that sword makes is orgasmic, the headshot sound is topnotch, the Hannibal Scorpion's weapons were satisfying to listen to, so much that ASMR videos stopped working for me, etc.) and Halo Infinite's a perfect blend between the classic sounds heard throughout the franchise's first decade with the ones from 343's era: the Stalker Rifle sounds so imposing when you use it as well as when you hear its shots from afar, the BR is a flawless blend between the OG with the more recent iterations of the rifle, the Bulldog snarls in such a badass way, everything about the Shock Rifle is flawless, from the sounds it makes when you first pick it up to when you reload/recharge it, the sounds from the ambience are immersive in many ways (the waterfalls are always quite relaxing, especially in Catalyst), the alarm thingy from the laser drill in Breaker sounds so threatening, the audio feedback for the equipments is greatness incarnate, etc. I could keep sharing the sounds that I love in the game because they're truly endless to me (shout-out to the Skewer's reload sounds and the sound the Grapple makes when you use it to pick up something), but, I'll stop because you get my point at this instance. Kyle, Robbie, Jomo & Sotaro, thank you for being so imaginative and inventive, myself and many others love what you've done and we can't wait to hear what else you're gonna' produce for us! P.s.: People from the competitive scene who mute out the ambient sounds, how dare you!?, I get why y'all do it (e.g. muting out those sounds lets you hear enemies more easily), but, still, how can y'all be so heartless against these splendid sounds!?
