Theory: the reason he is looking backwards is because he focuses on the past instead of the future. His past hurts him. Moral: don’t focus on the past, or you’ll miss the future.
At the end it says something like: "... have more sleep tonight ... you would like your dream come true" The only parts that are clear are "sleep tonight" and "dream come true".
(Putting what it just sounds like to me in "") " [inaudible] ... you look like a dream come true". And then I'm certain Jack says "hahaha, that's/it's why".
Hi jack, certified medical scientist here. I believe that Mr. Backwards has a severe case of cervical dystonia, a condition that causes ones head to turn all the way back. I strongly recommend getting this treated at your nearest hospital as soon as possible as this can cause secondary issues that could be fatal. Best wishes, -soccermom_6.
@@littlesadeo while it is a joke some depressed people are like that so you shouldn't always make fun of it. For example a sucide joke could be said by a person who's depressed and someone can say "@14yrgirls lmao so edgy" and that's actually what causes most sucide cases since sometimes they're being faked but other times they're a call for help or support or something.
Allow me to break this down, line by line. "Mr. Backwards, look back at how he acts." This is a metaphor. He acts abnormally and has strange mannerisms, so he is seen as backwards. "He's a monster, who tells you all the facts." My take on this was that he is a person who tells the unfortunate, painful truth and that people dislike him for it. "Watch his movements, as he listens to himself." By movements, the song means mannerisms. I believe the singer has a bias against Mr. Backwards. He has a "haha, look at him with the strange way he acts and his weird thoughts, what a weirdo" attitude. "He's hurting, but he's certain all is well!" This line is rather self-explanatory. It's the singer poking more fun at Mr. Backwards, believing he is being irrational despite that Mr. Backwards believes himself to be the exact opposite. "Oh, Mr. Backwards, don't you know?" The singer may be someone who deeply cares for him, saying "don't you know you're hurting? Don't you know this is wrong?" "You really want what you don't." Mr. Backwards wants to be smart. He wants to feel like he is smarter than everyone else. But that's just what he appears to want on the surface. In reality, he just wants to feel like he isn't abnormal, but he's not sure how to get out of the hole he's dug himself into. TL;DR: Mr. Backwards is a person who tells the painful truth so he can feel smart. The singer is perhaps a friend or loved one arguing with him, telling him that this needs to stop. Mr. Backwards wants to stop so he can feel normal, but he doesn't know how.
Interesting take. I kinda took it as a guy who thinks he knows everything but only listens to himself, locking himself into a bubble or echo chamber. The reason he’s a monster is because he tries to push his “truth” into others in an aggressive manner (shown by his facial expressions). He does this all to distract himself from and cope with his inner turmoil - the part he doesn’t listen to. He fools himself into thinking he’s fine and doing the right thing. He’s stuck in a cycle as whenever he is probably rejected or questioned (do you know?) he reaffirms his belief. He’s a great example of the dunning Kruger effect as he seems to be condescendingly informative (with his waving finger) but we are reminded by the singer to “look back at how he acts” - to review his behavior with a critical eye instead of just taking whatever he says as fact (bc he only knows a limited amount of information and he continues to circle that around in his head). Kinda reminded me of older people who have a bit of an ageist view when it comes to knowing things and having wisdom. I feel like everyone has had an experience where a person senior in age discredited them just because they were young; thus they act as gatekeepers for something that can’t be treated so. They say “Well how could you know anything?” I think this was implied with the contrast between him and the children. On a side note I think him running forward but looking back shows that he wants to progress, but he lacks the insight to see that by being “backwards” he can’t. When he says “you really want what you don’t” it points to this - as he wants to project the truth but only his truth, which he wants to be true (and if he had the truth then he wouldn’t want to say what he says because it would be untrue). I think it’s a warning both for people who are surrounded by a mr. backwards and people who may be a mr. backwards. Anyway this is just my interpretation.
@@marcyxfinn I think you're 100 percent right. This seems more like a dissection and critique of American political thinking, and less a personal issue.
I recently found out Jack Stauber lives in the same city as me. Why did nobody tell me about this? I would've went to one of his shows a long time ago (does he do shows?)
There’s a guy in my class that is like mr backwards, he’s known for his VERY annoying way of saying facts, and he acts like a big jerk sometimes, and I saw him crying one morning and he went to the guidance counselor (our school therapist basically) so I think he’s going through things, so he’s kinda like mr backwards Edit: going on two years since I last saw him, hope he’s alright (he moved schools)
Do you live in Illinois? I have a classmate that acts like that. If you don’t want to share your state, can you share the “mr.backwords” student’s name? (Only first name)
If you think he's going through stuff, Don't share his personal information online for other people to acsess. That's kinda messed up don't you think? Before putting anyone's personal information online ask them for permission first
@@teenyweeny3005 maybe it's him saying a retort to jack since he is talking about mr.backwards . It sounds like a song about feelings and mr.backwards is covering something up and that's why he says to jack that he is a chicken to...or he could be saying that to the listener ? I could be way off but this is interesting
My theory: Mr backwards is having trouble facing that he isn’t happy, and disregarding the things he wants, often doing things he doesn’t wanna do. As his body is moving forward, he looks backwards as if to regret the descisions he’s made.
I'm really glad you had subtitles for every word, it's often hard to understand what you're singing but I would rather you add subtitles than change your style. Not to mention your subtitles are very stylish.
I can relate to this song. By his head being backwards he means he looks back at the past and doesn't look toward the future he cant let go. Like I do. "He's hurting, But he's certain all is well" Meaning he knows he's not good mentally, but he tries to convince himself that he is fine. Like I do.

my theory: he faces the back due to shame. there is some feeling in him that he is shameful of, and he can’t get rid of it. he listens to himself thinking about his feelings, which he judges and criticises himself for doing. he is in constant pain, that is entrapped within his head. ‘you really want want you don’t’ could express how he knows his feeling isn’t good, but it is there and a part of him (the ‘monster’) is satisfied by it.
Tea drinker perhaps, but i think they’ve come to that conclusion mainly because of how his head is turned backwards. the grungy nerd look is probably used to emphasise that he’s having a tough time mentally.
i interpreted it more in the : his way of thinking is backwards, which is represented by his head which is litteraly backwards, and he's hurting because his backwards ideas are not healthy but he's sure he's right and he only listens to himself...but that was my first impression. i'm not really sure anymore
“He’s hurting but he’s convinced that all is well.” I interpret this particular line as Mr. Backwards being broken and hurting, but he believes that the world is fine, and it’s him that’s the problem. His brokenness, pain, and suffering are all things that he blames himself for.
Ok so this is what I understand from the lyrics “Mr backwards, look back at how he acts!” I’m guessing everyone is making fun of him “He’s a monster, who tells you all the facts” For this, I’m guessing people think he is weird and stuff but he will sometimes tell sad facts that people understand. “Watch his movements” I’m guessing people don’t like his posture, maybe he doesn’t fit in. “As he listens to himself” For this, mr backwards doesn’t know that people make fun of him, he just spends his time listening to his past, wishing, that he was there, while that happens, the people make fun of him, while he does it. “He’s hurting” He starts to realise that no one is having trouble, he has no one to share his thoughts. He realised that everyone is living their prime life. “Yet he is certain all is well” People start questioning him why he is sad, but I’m guessing from the past people made fun of him expressing his feelings, so he says that he is well. “Oh mr backwards don’t you know” People start to realise what happened to mr backwards. They start acting like “eh it’s fine it’s a normal thing” “You really want what you don’t” They they think mrbackwards had a bad past they say it’s not good for him. But as you can see at 0:23 mr backwards is happy listening to the past, meaning he had a good past. He is just sad he can’t re live it anymore because his life is a mess and he doesn’t have the courage to do anything “Coffee in the morning sleep at night, you look like a dream come true!” He starts seeing people’s routines and just wishes one day he will be like them.
Mr Backwards, Look back at how he acts! He’s a monster, Who tells you all the facts! Watch his movements, As he listens to himself. He’s hurting, Yet he’s certain all is well- el- el! *-Chorus plays-* Oh Mr Backwards don’t you know *Don’t you know, don’t you know,* You really want what you do-o-on’t, *really want, whatcha don’t* Oh Mr. Backwards don’t you know?
I’ve pitched it up and reversed it without changing speed, it’s “coffee in the morning, sleep at night! You look like a dream come true! haha it’s fine.”
This is either about a depressed teacher or ldepression in general. There's a man who's dressed like a teacher, there's distracted children in the video. The music gives this feeling of distortion and confusion. It's all very heavy material, heavy as in, oh fuck this is depressing.
"He's monster a monster, who tells you all the facts." I'm sure people, in general have had that teacher who speaks to everybody, and everbody is not listening. For whatever reason.
Someone who tells you all the facts is by definition an honest person , and considering an honest truthful person to be a monster would be “backwards logic” If someone’s hurting, but they know all is well or everything is ok, in the eyes of some that would be “backwards logic” If someone wants what they dont want, thats clearly “backwards logic” But yet everything thats said in the video feels like it makes sense If something that doesn’t make sense, makes sense, wouldnt that be “backwards logic”? Just like how weve all accepted this man having a backwards head as being typical on jacks channel, as if that isnt “backwards logic”
I'ma give a shot at breaking this down. "Mr Backwards, look back at how he acts." Mr Backwards is stuck reminiscing in the past so they have to look back to see him at all. "He's a monster, who tells you all the facts." Mr Backwards current state is horrifying because of how little he takes care of himself, but all he remembers is the past of his life which allows him to have all the knowledge of his past still. "Watch his movements, as he listens to himself." He needs everyone around him to make sure he keeps going while still looking into the past, he's moving forward, but only thinking about and looking towards the past. "He's hurting, yet he's certain all is well!" He is in pain due to the present. However, since he can't face the present, he looks at the past, where he was happy, and believes all is well. "Oh Mr Backwards don't you know, don't you know, don't you know, you really want what you don't." Everyone around him is trying to get him out the past because eventually the bad present he's in will be the past he's looking at. The rest of the song just reinforces on this last line.
This is really symbolic, most people will just shrug this off as just a weird video or edgy but this is a true masterpiece. The symbolistic nature of this video seems like mr. backwards is a person who is shunned by society for being different. They call him a monster because they don't understand what he is. This is sadly a fate for many people around the world.
Mr. Backwards makes me think of a smart man who's comments are drowned out buy everyone else shaming him for his appearance causing him to feel depressed. Poor guy :(
Unicorn curry eh I don't think there should be a t in lgbt, but I don't want to drag my political opinions into the comment section of one of Jack's videos.
I know everyone is trying to figure out the lore but.. How the fuck does he sleep, bathe, or dress in the morning!? Like you have to wonder how long it took for him to place that bow tie on his shirt.
What i learned 1. Theres someone called Mr. Backwards 2. He's a monster that tells people facts (so badass) 3. We should watch his movements while he talks to himself (Again very badass, being unpredictable) 4. He is hurting, but feels like it'll be ok (based emotional intelligence)
Am i the only one who thinks this has to do with freak shows?- because the "he's a monster" line, some people in freak shows would be called monsters because of how they look :v and the eyes that pop up on screen- people watch freak shows does that make sence?- ;-;
I showed this to my mother because she liked the song called buttercup by Jack Stauber and I just said: Wait let me show you something else that he made. And she was like: Oh...
I see mr backwards as someone who believes more in logic and the way he is presented to the general public more than acknowledging the pain he experiences while doing away with his own emotions causing more internal conflict
