@@baccycones7644not really half bud. Considering Sydney only has 300,000 more people then Melbourne does, and no other state besides qld cares about rugby. Wa, TAS, SA all follow afl. Same with NT but that’s not a state 😂. AFL also has a decent following in Canberra.
@@Comatosedpeanut qld and nsw is half of the population. I’m from the nt. I don’t watch afl. In the top end it’s half and half. Nrl makes more money and has had more views than the afl. In Australia it’s pretty half and half. Cause nrl is watched more internationally it’s not popular. Go cry about it or something lol
@@OperatorDennis no? Didn’t read what I wrote? QLD + nsw is half of Australia’s population. QLD and nsw watch nrl. People say the nt is all afl but I bet you haven’t been to the nt. It’s split. Rual it’s all afl. Where majority of the population is it’s split. I’ve met more people who watch nrl than afl actually. Most people who watched afl were from the southern states like sa or vic. They play an nrl game in darwin every year. Packed stadium
Aussie Football...it's as close to Rugby as NFL is to Lacrosse. The most skillful, courageous and taxing football code in the world. 2hrs Playing time..players run over 10 miles per game..kick goals from over 60 yards out, stand on shoulders to catch the ball...and the SMASH each other at every opportunity. Greatest sport in the world - over 150 yrs old
@@BannanaBlue The person behind the initial forming of the game was a rugby school background. But there was a substantial migrant population of Irish in Melbourne at the time. The codifying of the rules was a compromise between competing interests.
Your all wrong it was an aboriginal game called Marngrook They would kick a possum skin around and say mamark when they caught the ball the white nan who founded afl played this game with the indigineous people but claimed to have created the game himself
@@Taz200You could pick 1000 random Americans off of the street and asked all of them if they know what it is and 90% of them would know what you're talking about, the other 10% would think you're talking about the AFC
I remember watching the AFL grand final back in 2010 and not knowing what footy was here in the US. I thought it was soccer, rugby, and American football’s secret love child.
It’s not Rugby mate, it called Aussie Rules, they play on a round field & have 4 quarters to a game as opposed to rugby union & rugby league (which have 2 40ish mins half’s) there is a lot of difference between the 3 codes (although Union & League are similar)
