Ok, at first I was thinking "they don't need deeper subtext" but then this video got me thinking. I have my own headcanon that Mr. Boss is a veteran, based on how he handles an AR properly. Maybe Mr. CEO was a bloodthirsty lter ego that was born in the blood of the Vietnam war. Mr. Boss returns home, finding it hard to cope with civilian life and keep Mr. CEO at bay, so he starts the Smiling Friends as a way to counteract his violent side.
Honestly id be down for either or. Like if theres actual lore and pay off here id def be down cuz that js sounds fun and wacky. But at the same time its perfectly fine and actually funny if it never really goes anywhere lol
i agree. it's a cool deep lore idea. but might not necessarily be part of a long running deeper arc like a lot of us might be used to with some shows like Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Owl House, Amphibia, and all the other favorites of this channel . this could be just a surface level tweakng thing or something if that's the proper word. i don't really know the creators of this show that well, i've only seen small clips of their streams here and there for small jokes that people have referenced. So I have no idea if they'd be the kind of creators that would make one of those deep lore build up things or they're just stand-alone one shot guys with each episode loosely connecting or something. although it could be interesting if they would make some kind of episode on some of those deep lore type shows where they make fun of that sort of thing where someone tries to piece of bunch of stuff together and pretty much everything they say is wrong. despite it sounding like a really well put together theory and argument. And it's countered by there being a different deep lore that no one in their right mind could've guessed due to it being out there bonkers and connecting things that no one would've ever done...just for laughs or something.

I have my own theory.✨️ I think he created smiling friends in order to stop his other self from reeking havoc as in the two personalities made a deal and smiling friends is part of it e.g. in the last episode of season 1. He praised the frowning friends, lamenting not having that idea first.🤔 The first and last episode of season 1 have the same theme, what stopping you from doing the unthinkable in this terrible world, 😳 The answer in ep1 was find your passion something to live for.🎉 The last ep it's because no one wants to kick the bucket 😢 Even though eventually everyone has to hence "the renaissance is coming to town" Which i feel is an extension of his duality
