I found this album when I was a teenager. When I got home and played it, I was astounded as to how well this music encapsulated what was going through my mind. To this day, still love Mr Bungle.

Mr Bungle is genius, one of the best bands ever, they grow on you if you give them a chance.

Mike Patton is god. Everything he touches is pure brilliance. Every band and album he does.

im willing to bet Sori would LOVE "Mr Bungle - Retrovertigo". oh btw those lyrics about grease is from the musical. "Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion" i take this song as references to a circus freak. hes an attraction, like Hitler and Swayze and Trump & Travolta. ppl look on in awe. their albums are thematic if that wasnt obvious, the best way to absorb them is listen to the whole album and THEN choose to admire it or never listen again lol. there are literally more offensive songs on this album, "squeeze me macaroni" for example draws lines between food a sexual fetishes but Mike sings it so fast it puts Serj to shame.

Munky from Korn named the shrieking chords as Mr. Bungle chords. Mr. Bungle and Faith No More are heavy influences to Korn and Slipknot.

Bungle are great! And they've reunited last year after 21 years apart for an all thrash metal album with drummer from Slayer and guitarist from Anthrax

I bought the Billie Eilish cd for my grand daughter when it came out. I'm 60 years old. I think it's a great album. And I have a strong feeling that the reason... is FRANK ZAPPA. When I was growing up, I listened to Frank Zappa all the time... every day... for about 35 to 45 years... ritually. And that means... I listened to many different types of music, all crammed into one album (sometimes one song), and never knew what was coming next, and always had to accept that when my ears hear this new Zappa album for the first time... they (my ears) are not going to understand it, because it is TRULY new. As a result, when I hear new music, now. I am able to accept it's difference more readily. Mr. Bungle is a perfect case in point. The first time I heard them (1992), I was completely shocked, and I loved it. I hadn't felt that way since I heard We're Only In It For The Money by Frank Zappa. And that is saying a lot.

Oh the magnificence and weirdness of Mr. Bungle. You should do a Mike Patton week, as he also has Fantomas, Tomahawk, Lovage, Dead Cross, Kaada & Patton, Crudo........

You guys need to react to; Faith No More-Zombie Eaters. Faith No More's cover of Easy is also a must listen. I think Sori would start to appreciate Mike Patton's vocal prowess with that one.

I have always been a metalhead but it was this song that got me into horror-core hip hop as a kid, groups like Insane Clown Posse and solos like Eminem and Esham. Mike is such a musical genius, everything he does make you feel, even if its uncomfortable, he has succeeded

The song is pretty straight forward in an abstract avant-garde/anti-pop style. Feeling completely helpless while horrible things happen. Imagine growing up in a small town, pre-internet, and being so disconnected from the rest of the world. Horrible news travels faster than good news. The isolation of insulation provides for the helplessness and lack of senses to know what is real. Perspective: We have all seen those movies where some someone hides in the water while someone is chasing (shooting at) them, using a reed to breath. That is their only reference to what is real, the air one breaths, as sounds and visuals are distorted to non existent. Furthermore, a reed is a small way to perceive the world and sometimes we can smell and taste bad things in the air, literally. The title “Travolta” vs the concepts… now imagine being that isolated breathing through a reed.. the imagination is left to entertain oneself about what is going on above the water. Actors like Travolta and Swayze were idolized by these kids, and give them hope for a normalcy. While narcissists like Hitler and Trump who have a life mission of compensatory revenge, to which no safety is above the water is believed (for the triggered: These lyrics were written 25 years before MAGA-hysteria by a bunch of kids without a political agenda… don’t you feel foolish now) Hope that paints a clearer picture than the stylized video that was intended to make the viewer feel isolated from those concepts. Fun fact, this song was an homage to Travolta to thank him. Travolta threatened to sue the band and they changed the name to “Quote, Unquote”… years later, this change was directly used for Tavolta’s Biography of the same name. Kind of an homage to this homage.

As soon as I saw the title of this vid, I knew Sori wouldn't like it at all. Honestly I didn't think Vin would get it either. Mr Bungle are properly and deliciously weird. The rhythms are pure jazz and yes it is supposed to have that effect. A very acquired taste indeed, maybe you just had to be like me, a Gen X weirdo to enjoy them. In Italian... the word TRAVOLTA... means to be run over by something. This song is about a parapelegic. Mike Patton was married to a woman from Bologna, and he speaks Italian, but I don't know if he wrote this song or these words. But there still might be that double meaning in there... it fits. Also... this is the censored version of the song... LOL... the full version is even worse. Or better, depending on your p.o.v.

From what I’ve read, MTV only played this video once and they took it off rotation because of the imagery shown.
