We still miss you..Rest In Peace, Randy. With Randy a huge part of Ozzy died on that day the music died. If you listen closely you can hear him playing up there, together with Jimmy and 'Mr.Unbelieveble', the Great Gary Moore..✌🌈🙏🎸🎸🎶🎶
Randy Rhodes was phenomenal, tragic that his life was cut short. Ozzy was devastated when he was killed in the plane crash. I'm sure they would have made many more special albums together. RIP, ONE OF THE GREATEST TO EVER PLAY.
Randy Rhoads I read somewhere was actually ready to quit amd pursue something else like classical guitar. Can't quite remember, but he wasn't staying with Ozzy any longer.
@@primemoverelectrical3586 He was gonna go to UCLA and get a degree in the discipline of the classical.....His mother ran a music school called Musonia in Santa Monica where he taught from an early age
@@warinsidemyhead8939 Also the bassist, Rudy Sarzo, taught bass at Randy's Mother's school. He and Randy were bandmates with Quiet Riot which went toe-to-toe with Van Halen. Both were house bands in Los Angeles clubs only two blocks apart. Randy convinced Ozzie to hire Rudy.
I seen this a few times and just to get a glimpse of the late great Randy Rhoads is always worth a revisit . Yes Ethan our mouths hang open just watching this guy play too.Such a terrible loss. Check out the studio version. Better production and a little faster in tempo. The guitar will make the hair stand up on your arms.
Randy wasn't just a hired gun guitar player, he was a real student of music and also a teacher at his mothers music school in Santa Monica Ca......Music was his family business. Music was his life....from a small child till the day he left earth....
Fun reaction guys! I enjoyed watching Ethan’s reaction to Randy’s solo! I was fortunate to see Ozzie perform live with Randy Rhoads July 4, 1981 in Oakland California. Soon after that show, I bought my first electric guitar and still play to this day.
This footage was from a small late night TV show called After Hours in Rochester NY. There was a really small studio audience of about 20 people. They had only played 5 shows together as a band before this video. Randy Rhoads is the best ever who died in a small plane crash in Florida while on tour
Damn...I came across Randy Rhoads and Cliff Burton like 2 or 3 years before they each died...and I have still not heard their equal on their respective instruments.
Not saying Randy Rhoads was the best but he is my favorite. Whatever it is he had it. RIP Randy. God called you way to soon. I will never forget in my generation the day the music died.
OZZY was my first real concert without my parents hanging around (LOL) back in June 0f '86 in San Diego and Metallica was the opening act. Every time I have seen OZZY and he plays this song I get goose bumps. Probably my favorite OZZY (solo career) song. Just wish I could have seen Randy Rhoads (RIP) perform it.
That was so amazing with Ozzy's original line up The amazing Randy Rhodes on guitar, Amazing Rudy Sarzo on bass. The amazing Tommy Aldridge on drums. These guys were the best at that time. Love it
Rudy and Tommy were not part of the original line up. Bob Daisley on bass and Lee Kerslake on drums. Rudy and Tommy were excellent but they were hired hands when Ozzy first came to America outside of Black Sabbath
Outstanding. Blizzard of Ozz is one of the best debut albums ever. This song is one of the best along with "Suicide Solution", "Goodbye To Romance", "Crazy Train" and "I Don't Know".
Randy Rhodes is the best Guitarist to come out of Southern California. Eddie Van Halen would be a distant second. I hope this comment doesn't get erased
They were both phenomenal guitarists - to say that either one would be a distant second is just ridiculous. And I'm sure if you asked any of today's top guitarists they would say the same thing
Remember that realty show a few back with Ozzy and Sharon in it ?! I don't remember the name of it, but I thought it was hilarious when Ozzy tried to talk or speak his lines !
@@brianb6024 - The Osbournes? The funny thing about Ozzy is that while most of his brain has been completely destroyed by drugs and alcohol and loud music, what's left is just a kernal of common sense. I think it was episode 2 of The Osbournes when Kelly (about 15 at the time) decided she wanted a tattoo. So she asked mum "mum, can I get a tattoo?", and Sharon went completely ballistic! So she thought, I know, I'll ask dad, he's covered in tattoos, he can't say no because that would be hypocrisy. So she asks Ozzy "dad, can I get a tattoo?" and Ozzy says "what do you want a f-ing tattoo for?", and Kelly says "to be different", so Ozzy says "well, if you want to be different, why don't you be really different and don't have a f-ing tattoo?"
@@reallymysterious4520 - ha! A lot to unpack here - I am familiar with Frasier (Cheers is my all-time fave sitcom), but not enough to be familiar with Simon, so RU-vid to the rescue. Sounds like someone having a go at a Cockney (East End of London) accent. Computer says the actor is Australian Anthony LaPaglia, who despite the Moon family supposedly coming from Manchester, opted for a Cockey accent, which is not a million miles from an Australian accent. Wiki describes his "mockney" accent as "excrutiating." Jane Leeve's Manc accent is exaggerated but I think it's authentic, but what do I know - I'm a southerner from Bedfordshire! I find most British characters on American TV and film to be excrutiating. Ozzy is pure Brummie, born and bred, and it's the most miserable depressing accent in the country. Cockney's are cheeky chappies, like Simon. It might be the humour that cuts across, I don't know...
I liked the video, As it really show-cased Randy's guitar playing, up close and friendly. And of course Ozzy is unbelievable! The original crazy train ! Thanks for a very nice and a very special reaction - you guys rock !
Man oh man! That guitar solo was spectacular! Randy was the man...it's so sad that his life was cut short by such a reckless stunt. Imagine the music he would have produced if he was still alive today. RIP Randy. Ozzy was in great shape vocally back then and the rhythm section was rock solid too...this recording was excellent to behold. I have never seen Ozzy live and have heard very few live tracks so whatever live reactions you'd do would be greatly appreciated. My suggestion this time is for Pat Benatar from her earlier days as a rock artist before the record industry coerced her to go in a more poppy direction...here is Heartbreaker (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mIosHNpGjTE.html). Cheers!
While Ozzy was officially a solo-artist, his guitarists (in this case Randy Rhoads) and other musicians wrote a lot of the music on the albums. Which is why each album, while somewhat directed by Ozzy, has its own unique sound. Other than Mr. Crowley my favourite Ozzy song is Thunder Underground from Ozzmosis, if you want to give that a listen...
Gotta say dad, you're raising this boy right. That "hired gun" comment was very astute. Rhoads was to finish this tour and then go back to UCLA to get his Masters in music. Can you imagine? What more would he have brought to the world? Is it just me, or was that little "flourish" at the end a dig at Eddie Van Halen? Rhoads walked to the back of the stage, turned his back to the camera and played a flawless EVH tapping lick. I know they were "rivals" in a way, but after destroying those solos? Yeah....... I'd "mouth off" a bit too.
This was filmed for a tv show called “After Hours” on April 24, 1981 at a tv studio in Rochester, New York. So, yes Larry, Ozzy was more calm without an audience to have to perform to, but he was also totally sober for this. They didn’t actually play this song slower than the version on the album, it was just recorded on VHS tape at the wrong speed. You can also watch them perform “Crazy Train” “I Don’t Know” and “Suicide Solution” from the same show as this, it’s all on RU-vid. Randy was killed in a plane crash on March 19, 1982. In Ozzy’s autobiography “I Am Ozzy” and Sharon Osbourne’s autobiography they both tell about the plane crash and what they went through. Randy was only 25. You guys also should watch the dvd “God Bless Ozzy Osbourne”, which tells his life story, it’s really excellent.
RIP Randy Rhodes, was an absolute legend. There are 2 guitar solos in this song the first is truly impressive, the second is legendary. The song is incredible, Randy Rhodes was phenomenal. If you can you should check Over The Mountain it’s a crusher, Randy is incredible on it. Stay Cool 😎 and… \m/ Stay Metal \m/
That’s not Don Airey. He had a commitment to Rainbow so he couldn’t do this tour even though he did play on the record. Can’t remember the guys name, it was Lindsey something, maybe bridgewater...
Loved Ozzy's reaction at the end - I think he realised they'd just nailed it. Just reading the Wiki entry on this song as they went into the guitar solo - rated 28th in a reader's poll in Guitar World, and the song as 23rd greatest heavy metal song by a poll conducted by Gibson. Mr Crowley was Aleister Crowley, an occultist and self-proclaimed prophet leading mankind into the age of Horus (!) - great stuff, thumbs up!
@@cherylreichardt - wasn't sure if I heard this before (and I'm still not sure) because the opening keyboard solo was one of those openings where it could go in a number of different directions. Like it.
@@davemac1197 A friend of mine in high school played this in her basement. Great stereo sound. However she lived in a creepy older house and with little to no lights on and that keyboard starts well.......
@@cherylreichardt - you would love the house one of my schoolfriends lived in. His family owned the manor house in Churchdown village (between Cheltenham and Gloucester). It dates back to the 16th century at least - oak timber frames and low beams. During the Civil War (1640s) an important prisoner was kept there and he carved his initials into a window sill, and I was told the vegetable garden behind the kitchen was the place the first potato in England was planted - imported from the New World by Sir Walter Raleigh. I wouldn't be surprised if a bit of heavy rock has been played there a few times. I don't know why Americans always call us creepy, scary, or vampires - you're just too easy to wind up!
This kid GETS it. There used to be lots of music critic writers for magazines. There definitely still is many music critics but they are not as influential. Please watch the movie “Almost Famous” which is the story of a 15 year writer that gets hired by Rolling Stone magazine to join a band on tour and write about them.
I don’t remember what year it was when I saw ozzy the first time. Must have been somewhere between 1987 or 88 maybe if that makes sense ? Saw him at the spectrum in Philly. Was blown away -Larry
that was a slower version (usually live means faster), but it's a great version. The whole band was great. Dad mentioned Wasp again. You'll need to do a WASP song soon! :p
Randy was intended to be a permanent member, but, his sad untimely demise prevented that. Also, this performance was toned down a bit because it was performed for a morning TV show. There are a couple more songs filmed for this show out there. On a side note, the ending part, Tommy Aldridge, the drummer, decided to improvise, and Randy, Bob (Daisley), the keyboardist, and Rudy Sarzo, the bassist just followed along. Complete improve, and their timing was still impeccable.
You should do this or any song from his live album Tribute To Randy Rhoads. Randy shined like a supernova on stage. No vid's for that album though. Badass
Little trivia . That special made polka dot V , Randy said he actually had a problem with that staying in tune I think after he dropped it then getting repaired so Mostly played his Les Pauls and Jackson cutaway V's
Hi guys! This is my favorite off that album. It starts off so cooly creepy and then it's just classic Ozzy magic! Love that guitar Randy!! A great wicked Wednesday! You reacted fabulously Ethan!👍
@@cherylreichardt My mom was a big Elvis Presley, Dean Martin and Bing Crosby fan - lol. Luckily when I was around 12 I made a new friend who got me into RUSH - the Farewell to Kings and 2112 albums, and Ozzy as well
@@reallymysterious4520 My mom loved Elvis too. My parents were pretty cool and they latched onto whoever I was into. My mom liked Ozzy's voice. And as for Rush... Oh yes!!!!
Hi Guys, love your reactions (though not enough Deep Purple Live). Randy died too young . But 1981 Newcastle I saw Ozzy, but met Randy Rhodes. Lovely man, brilliant, really brilliant guitarist. He would be the rival to EVH. Except he was not competitive.
Many Musicians started off playing music in church, James Hatfield , & Dave Mustaine just to name a few ! Also from very early ages ! I’ll I’m saying is study 📚 now & stay with it ! Going to church never hurt anyone either! Just saying !!!!
This song is about Aleister Crowley, who was an "English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist, and mountaineer." It's less about his painter, novelist and mountaineer experiences.
@@fatherandsonreactions oh men that´s the first channel to reply my comment and mate please if u can please do react to steve vai for the love of god and tender surrender, success in you channel
You haven't done garage rock/psych in a while. How about reacting to Double Yellow Line by The Music Machine, My Rainbow Life by The Freak Scene, or I'm Falling by The Peanut Butter Conspiracy?
Glad you enjoyed that young man, but Randy was no hired gun. He was what made "Ozzy." I suggest you take a dive into Randy's music. You'll never hear anyone like him again.
Thanks for the comment !!! Interesting point you brought up. I only know him from Ozzy. What did he do before Ozzy ? I never really thought about it. Larry
@@davemac1197 It's the same pleasantly plum spice. Hey you've got to stick with what makes you feel confident! It's a very nice day. Hardly feels like fall. In fact not many of the leaves have changed yet.
