THANK YOU!. This is so thorough and hits all of the important points for a homeschool mom to consider. I appreciate that I don't have search for another video after watching this review.

This is a great video; thanks. I see it is 3 years ago now and I'm curious to see if your perceptions changed at all. How well did these programs prepare your kids for future math programs, maybe outside of Mr.D's classes? Did you find these competitive/rigorous? Also, I noticed that not all of the teachers in Mr. D's staff are math teachers by degree. Did you feel all of the teachers were astute and highly competent? Thank you!

Thank you so much for this. I didn't see any kind of preview on the website, but your video was easy to find and help me feel like this was a good thing to give a try for higher level math, we are just wrapping up CTC 6th grade math now, after years of Math-U-See, and I feel like Mr. D math will take what I appreciated from both of those programs and combine them into one. The live help sessions are a huge motivator for me. Is that offered also for the self paced classes? Thank you!

How does this compare to thinkwell online math curriculum?

does anyone know how this lines up with Shorman Math in terms of depth? I know with Shorman Math, you earn Geometry credit after taking Algebra 1 and 2.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that program.

Is there a way of keeping the kids from seeing the solutions before completing their work? It seems to me it's awfully easy for them to click that solutions link. Not saying my child will do this but that temptation is there, lol. Also is the online video link the link to seeing the problems worked out step by step?

I'll answer both your questions here. Short answer is no. There is no way to restrict access. Both the work to complete and the solutions worked are pdf links that you print out. However, that is intentional. Part of the way the course is structured is the idea that the student grades their own work and then enter their own grades. Initially he recommends the student do it WITH the parents and then transition to do it on their own. The value with this is it puts the full responsibility for the learning on the student, which is a core lesson throughout the entire program. There is something very refreshing with an online program with a real person saying "you are the one who decides how much you learn AND you are trusted to do take this program in such a way that you do learn."

Are those live help sessions available to kids whose family chose a self-paced course or is that just for live courses?

We're looking to use something other than Saxon after using it for 6 years. I'm wondering how challenging the Mr. D lessons are, (specifically geometry), based on other math programs you've used. It looks like there are fewer lessons overall compared to other curriculum I'm researching. I also noticed one of the later lessons just had the student drawing a line of symmetry. That seemed REALLY easy compared to what my daughter has done in the past with Saxon. I'm also wondering about the video quality of the self-paced lessons. I watched a few demo videos and it seemed like Mr. D's hand wasn't moving in real time which was making my daughter and I feel sick watching it. Just curious on your thoughts :-) She wants to use Mr. D math, but I think it's because she saw the lines of symmetry worksheet and was sold. Thank you for your time!

I have these same questions / concerns. My son is currently using Saxon for Algebra 2, but I'm considering switching to Mr. D. I watched the demos and had the same experience with it looking like it was lagging or in slow motion.

What are the videos like or the self-paced classes? I’ve seen Mr. D you tube videos where there is just a voice and a whiteboard and the video and sound is poor.

Never mind. 🙂 I’ve since found Mr D’s demo lessons and am happy with what I saw.

Is there a printout you can print for answers and step by step solutions for practice problems and tests?

I got to that place with math too. I got to the place where I did not want to study math in order to teach it. I did not want to grade it. I just wanted that responsibility gone from me. I moved ALEKS which has been problem free for us. The kids do it all on their own, ALEKS grades and sends me reports, and I monitor that they are spending enough time and meeting objectives. I highly recommend this kind of program to other math “allergic” moms 😁 ( I should say we are talking middle and high school - I don’t know how the program goes down with younger kids.)

@homeschooltohomeschool 4 года назад
Thank heavens there are a few options out there for those of us who need help as the kids get older. ALEKS wasn't right for us ... but I love that there are choices for us as homeschoolers!

ToriAnn Perkey , it sounds like you like to be or needed to be a little more hands on - or monitor the details a little more closely. I really was in a place where I wanted nothing more to do with it. 😁 I’m thankful the kids were able to learn from that method. The Mr. Ds sounds like an amazing resource. :)

Is there review built in and how? Review within units and all units reviewed? How often?
@homeschooltohomeschool
@homeschooltohomeschool 4 года назад
There are quizzes after each lesson and a test at the end of each unit. And they get more than one try if they struggle the first time.
@ericksonfamilyapps3392
@ericksonfamilyapps3392 4 года назад
So no review from unit to unit? Just within units?
@homeschooltohomeschool
@homeschooltohomeschool 4 года назад
@@ericksonfamilyapps3392 Sorry, I used the wrong vocabulary. Chapters are broken into units or lessons. Each unit/lesson has a quiz. There is also a test at the end of each chapter. So based on your question, the review from "unit to unit" would be the chapter test.

Thanks for sharing. How does this compare to Teaching Textbooks? Thanks.
@homeschooltohomeschool
@homeschooltohomeschool 4 года назад
While I haven't done an official review of Teaching Textbooks, I've spent quite a bit of time looking at it ... trying to decide what's best for my daughter who struggles with math. My takeaway is that TT's videos are digital -- which I think makes them harder to follow. And we liked the voice less than Mr Ds voice. I do like that it's all online now. However, as far as I can tell, TT does not offer live help sessions. And you don't have the sense that a real human is walking you through the problems. AND you don't have a live class vs self-paced class option. So while I think TT is a viable solution (and cheaper I believe now with their online option), if you think your child is going to need help or you have issues with "digital" sounding experiences, Mr D math is definitely a better option.

I know this video is old but I am hoping you still check responses. I am looking for an advanced Geometry curriculum/course for my son. He just did a year of Algebra 1 with Art of Problem Solving. He did fine and I would continue with this curriculum but I think he needs more than a textbook for the year. Videos would be great additional resource. He was board with Saxon and not sure where else to turn.

Hi. Hiw did you like AoPS vs. Saxon? And did you decide on Mr. D? Will you stay with AoPS? These are the 3 programs I am trying to compare.

Question....on the self-paced option, where it shows the links for the course work, the solutions, and the online video, is there a way to restrict the students access to the solutions? What is the online video....is that showing the problems being worked out?
