There was a music and drama teacher at my primary school exactly like Mr G. He’d put on elaborate eccentric shows which were basically all about him, and he’d always run on stage in the middle of them and have some 10 minute clarinet solo. He was actually a pretty talented and creative guy, but he was a nightmare to work with and he was a massive diva.
I love the whole thing but for some reason this part makes me laugh the most, I think because it's supposed to be a serious thing about that girl dying and he had to include the dog thing in there too lol!
Sure he's a bit of an ego maniac, but I'd love to have a teacher as enthusiastic as Mr g. All the rest of the cast looks genuinely thrilled to be there which is better than can be said for a lot of the education system
Yer it made an otherwise boring subject at the time interesting. Not that i'd be bored of it now at 27 but back then I couldn't be bothered and this made me want to learn about satire... But can't help but think, maybe it wasn't appropriate for high school.. I dunno
It's all gone the Americans have extinguished all Australian entertainment so we all act like stupid Americans sitting on tiktok and social media so only they are making money 😢
Brilliant as everyone has said. But I want to mention the closing cutaway shot (external shot of school foyer panning up to night sky). I actually tear up at that shot and can't fully put my finger on why. It is something about the unironically good closing musical number, combined with a deep sense of nostalgia for my own high school years (even though I was never a drama kid) and the sense that this type of scene, shared between proud parents in the audience and starry-eyed kids on stage with their whole lives ahead of them, is repeated generation after generation in schools across the country. That closing shot feels so poignant somehow. Hope I'm not the only one 😅
100% this!! That's partly why the whole show is so effective: he taps into that Aussie school experience so perfectly and manages to blend ridiculously dark and twisted humour with genuine warmth and sentimentality. I agree, that final pan out of the auditorium is so simple but so moving
The Americans won't allow it. they've paid the TV stations just stop making this sort of thing so everybody sits on tick tock which makes them money but doesn't actually provide any real quality entertainment. It's incredibly sad that they now run the world
“Oh Selene, why did you run in the road? It’s Rodney’s fault for leaving the door of the gym open.” (cam pans to Rodney LOL). “As most of you know, I am no longer teaching here, I was driven out due to mistreatment and general abuse”… This show is too good HAHA
Such a amazing shows like this all gone . I guarantee Google paid the television stations to stop making shows like this so Google can replace quality entertainment with American social media crap
