A few corrections: "Martisor" day is not May 1st, it is March 1 and symbolizes the first day of spring. The food specialty " drob de miel" is not a national dish but is one of the main staples at Easter time. A national dish would include "sarmale cu mamaliga" sau "ciorba de perisoare". If you plan to visit Romania, do not use the spelling and pronunciation used in the video to greet locals or ask for directions. That is a very poor Google translation. Instead, ask first in plain English and then listen to their response in Romanian. A more efficient way to learn the basics.

Just two things from a Romanian citizen: 1. While those superstitions, traditions and mystical beliefs do exist indeed they are far less important today, far less people practice them or even know about them than - say - a century ago. Mostly in remote rural areas. It's a bit annoying to me that many of the youtube videos that present this country focus so much on these magical elements of the local folklore, people who watch them might get the completely wrong idea that a typical Romanian is permanently preoccupied with these, or that if they ever visit this country they will witness those things. In fact there's little chance of any tourist ever seeing one of these ancient traditions, and even if they do get to see them, chances are, the village people are putting up a staged show for them and if the tourists weren't there, they would not bother with all that to be honest. 2. The pronunciation of every Romanian word in the video is badly butchered, don't try to imitate that :) If the words weren't also written on the screen I wouldn't even know what he was trying to say, it's so bad.

Here's some equally and even more interesting facts about Romania: * Transylvania comes from the latin words, "Trans-silva" meaning, "trans-forest" or "cross-forest". * To answer one of your questions, during medieval times Romania (particularly Wallachia, Transylvania and part of Moldavia) was far more important as a barrier between the ottoman controlled eastern lands and Europe. For that reason no fewer than 2 Romanians are credited with saving Europe and one of them the whole world. One of them, many of you already know. Vladislava Basarab. Aka Vlad the Impaler. The other one is a much more interesting figure imo name Janos Hunyadi or Iancu de Hunedoara in Romanian. He was also the father of king Matthias Corvin. * Although the D-Day of the middle ages was fought in present day Serbia, not Romania, the defense was led by a Romanian. That again was Janos Hunyadi. It was the 1456 battle of Nandorfehervar. You may have never heard of it but you've probably heard of things relating to it. San Juan Capistrano was one of the leaders of the defense and the Victory was counted as a miracle in his canonization. The ringing of church bells at noon is a consequence of this battle. And despite being largely forgotten, it is believed that this battle decided the fate of the world. Also, it bears striking resemblance to the battle of Middle Earth in the lord of the rings and may have played an inspirational role. * There's a castle in Romania called Turnu Rosu which means "red tower". It has that name because; duting medieval times, it's defenders mixed the blood of fallen Ottoman troops into the mortar when they did repairs to the walls as a warning to leave them alone. The blood coloring in the mortar is visible to this day. Web search the name and you'll probably find pictures of it. * Sighisoara is considered the most well preserved medieval town in Europe. * Bran castle is located in Brasov (medieval Chronstadt or Cronstad) which was Transylvanian territory. Vlad the impaler never ruled Transylvania. He ruled Wallachia. So; despite all the Dracula's castle nonsense, there's very little to suggest Vlad the Impaler ever set foot in the castle and he almost certainly never controlled it. Other than MAYBE a brief detainment siege during his attack on Timpa hill. * Speaking of Dracula. Dracula is made up of "dracul" meaning dragon (draco in latin) symbolically while an "a" or "ya" at the end of the name means, "Jr". So Dracula means, "Dragon Jr." or "son of the dragon". So technically, Jason Scott Lee can be called Dracula. 😁

There's some mistakes, like confusing 1 of May (Labour Day) with 1 of March, which is Mărțișor. There's also some bad prononciation on places and usual phrases. Sarmale is also a traditional food , in vine leaves or in fermented cabbage. Almost every family has it's own recipe. And the ear tingling it's not the most accurate word, it's whizzing or ringing in the ear. Tingling or itching of the nose is also a thing, and it means you're either get scolded or beaten.

Thank you for reacting to our country facts. About the battles you are right. Across the history manny armies tried to claim out country making thier own. For the strategic position and the reaches. Our ancestors fought bravely every time driving the invaders out. Even when they were outnumbered. This hasn't change today and manny try to claim parts of our country even today. Unlike then there is no one to fight now. But it still is a beautiful country and open to all tourists. We also have one of the oldes records of our ancestors being here like thousands of years back.

romanians and irish are united by some historical events when some proto-romanians, namely aromanian (greek and albanian from vlach origin - vallahia) when they went into a war campaign in ireland, some of them are still there. macedonians or aromanians are a greek tribe akin to sparta with vlachian influences. aromanians are found today in greece, albania, serbia, montenegro, romania, bulgaria, sicily, ireland and wherever they campaigned. the actual music that aromanians have is very similar with irish music in terms of tempo and how it sounds overall. from there the actual drob that resembles an irish food made in a similar manner, namely haggis.

you know that Count Dracula is actually a Romanian king who was called Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Dracul because during the confrontations with the Ottoman Empire he impaled around 20,000 Ottoman soldiers and traitors. I mean, a giant spear was inserted up his ass and out through his mouth. When the sultan saw a field full of so many men who were pierced with spears, he gave up the fight and returned to Turkey. This is where the legend of Dracula comes from

Hey MR. Giant, you spoke well about the fight for the minerals. Our government sold all the mineral extraction to foreign states, like Austria, Germany, USA, Canada, and the list is long. Thats why they let us join UE and Nato in the first place, nothing comes for free... And another factor is the greed for money of our governors. It's sad but it's the truth :( Good luck and take care!

As a person born and raised in Romania it's fascinating and humbling to see people be interested in our culture, food and scenery. As for food I would recommend, definitely "drob de miel" as they said in the video. It's just amazing 😻. And also "sarmale" which is basically a mix of usually ground pork meat with rice seasoned with condiments, wrapped up in cabbage/lettuce leaves and then boiled. Mmm. The outcome is definitely to die for. From what I heard it wasn't INVENTED in Romania but we're pretty much known for it being one of our staple foods nowadays. 6:33 - Pretty sure they meant 1st of March not May...

Romanians eat a lot of meat. Different pork dishes are associated with Christmas. Lamb dishes are associated with Easter. Drob is a meatloaf-y thing with a specific texture given by the organs used in making it. It can be nice, it can also get dry (given the fact that baked liver or kidneys can get dry). Lamb hasn't yet the strong flavour of mutton (but has a specific flavour) so that is a plus. I am surprised that, of all the dishes, this is the one that made the list.
