We still have a saying sometimes , when a women has bad hair in the morning when she wakes up :" arăți ca Muma Pădurii" = You look like Mother of the forest 😂😂❤❤

lol our fairy tales are horror filled. I LOVED them. I'd ask my mom to read me at least 2 every night. I didn't have a problem distinguishing between reality and fiction and they never gave me any psychological problems. They were filled with "draci", or devils. But in Romanian folklore, devils (i don't think they were meant to be the christian kind, but something with prechristian origins) were not seen as something you could or should vanquish, but as a normal part of the balance of life, that you need to outwit and drive off

All this creatures are pre-Christianity . In Romania we believe that St. Andrew brought the faith , but the locals inherited a vast older culture and religious believes. It was a place where people believed in afterlife and only 1 God long before the Christian faith.

Thank you Domnule Urias for another reaction to our folklore. Calul Nazdravan (the flying horse) was fed fire ember to make it fly. To me it always sounded like a lost technology for flight that only remained in legends - has wings, eats ember and spits out fire.

That may just be the case. A lot of folklore try to explain the unexplanable.

I didn't know the term Jidovi for the Giants. In my parts the word was Urias / Uriasi (pl.).

Hello! There some positive characters in the Romanian Folklore. Fat-Frumos and Ileana Cosanzeana are among them.

Fat Frumos = Alaric I and his armies Growing in one year like others in ten = his quick ascension in the Roman Army Ileana Cosanzeana (english would be Hellen of Cosenzia) = the Hellenic / Greek region in Italy called Cosenzia where Alaric died Balaurul cu Sapte Capete (seven headed dragon) = Rome with the 7 hills Golden Apples = The loot from Rome Padurea Fermecata (enchanted forest) = Codrii Vlasiei = The Romanian Forests The Plain over which he flew with the Winged Horse = the Panonnian Plain Padurea Blestemata (accursed forest) = The Forests around Slovenia / N. Croatia Muma Padurii (Old Witch) = Huns (Rome's allies) whom they fought around the forests of Slovenia and N. Croatia and pushed back to Ravena Gothic = Romanesque = Romanesc

I don't know how true the moroii are, but here's a strange story. My mom almost died when she was a baby and nobody knew why she's sick and what to do to her. My grandma took her to an old woman (like the village shaman) and she said that the baby is dying because she's not baptized. Grandma took mom and baptized her right away then she recovered. We see this as a miracle from God.
@RaduRadonys

That's just a happy coincidence. There are billions of unbaptized babies all around the world and most of them are perfectly fine.

We Romanians love horror stories, these creatures have nothing to do with the Orthodox religion, they are archaic creatures that have origin in our distant past,i have not heard of all the creatures presented in this video and clearly those photos and the way of presentation it's not the Romanian style of telling horror stories, in this video the creatures look funny, they shouldn't be funny, you should feel a shiver down your spine and freeze your blood in your veins and not be able to move for fear .I remember of "MIREASA" The BRIDE legend a girl who was going to get married died on her wedding day and from time to time reappears some nights wearing a wedding dress only her head is no longer hers only her body is hers but with Satan's head and can generally be seen by men. P.S. Don't worry Mr. Giant, we know the difference between stories and reality, we Romanians like to escape from reality sometimes and that's why we let our imaginations fly and we imagine certain creatures to create stories but for us stories are just stories we listen with interest we enjoy them especially when those stories really manage to scare us but that's all nothing more, nobody had problems here because hear a stories because we don't imitate what we hear in the stories.

Jidovi (the Giants) is also an offensive word for Jews. I guess it would be better to use the word Uriași (giants) instead of Jidovi. Also, Strigoi, a very common evil creature is missing from the video (evil souls of the dead, those who can't make it to heaven). They are blood thirsty creatures that torment the souls of the living. If you remember from a previous video the passing of a rooster over a dead, i think that the tradition says it should prevent the deadman's returning as a Strigoi. Actually, this belief is so strong in Southern Romania, that they are still cases of dead people being dug out and the solution is to put a wooden spike in their heart.
@mirceamaier6546
@mirceamaier6546 9 месяцев назад
Actually, I am a little wrong. The thing with the spike is for vampires(I am from Transylvania😂). After a bit of documentation, it looks like you have to take out the heart of the dead and burn it at a crossroads. Or take a stallion to the cemetery and drive it perendicularly over the grave of the supposed strigoi. Believe or not, people are still doing this in Romania.
