You can refill the one pound from your 20 pound tank with the adapter! Some people can't get it fully refilled, because they don't freeze the one pound canister before trying to refill. The frozen one pound canister prior to refilling will supply the pressure needed for transfer!!! It works like a charm, so you can reuse those 1pound canisters when you need the heater to be more portable!
It was absolutely worth it. Buying those canisters is financial suicide, costs a minimum of 3x more than filling 20lb tank at U-Haul. I use mine almost every day for a few hours in my small shop, the radiant heat is a wonderful thing..
Great info! I couldn't find information on how many quick connect ports there were and whether or not both elements would work with one hose. Looks like it was a surprise for you as well. Glad I found your video.
There is only one quick connect on one side of the big buddy Mr Heater what you can also connect a filter with a any size length of hose to the left side built in regulator on a mister heater regulator filter and hose to the built-in regulator and it runs works both sides of the panels
We have two of the Mr. Heater Big Buddy heaters. I bought two of these hose kits. I have them for back up heat in our house we moved into 2-1/2 years ago. It is total electric so if we have a power outage in the winter we have NO heat. So, I have these two heaters ready to go for back up heat along with 20lb. LP tanks I keep for our LP grill. Plus I have used these Big Buddy heaters to heat closed in deer stands.
8:06 - The hose you are showing does NOT come with the filter, or even need a filter. This is a low pressure hose - only high pressure hoses (where the gas is at full pressure in the hose and regulation is done inside the heater) need the oil filter. The Big Buddy quick connect port is unique in that it bypasses the heater's regulator.
Can you hook up the Big Buddy heater with a 20 lb tank just to the regulator and the big buddy. That is my question. To the connection for the 1 lb. Will it work? . Have a good day
2 Questions: First. yiu gave the burn time for the small time propane 1pound tank but not clear whether that burn time was for each or for both total. Second. you showed the All in One F271803 it for the 12 foot hose, is there a similar kit for the shorter hose?
You know you can easiy refill the 1 lb bottles with an adapter from a larger bottle, right? But the hose conversion is nice as long as you don't have to move the bottle much or far.
That's a good question, lol. The heater uses 2@ 1lb tanks to heat both sides. I wasn't sure if 1 hose going into this heater from a 20lb would work. I thought I might need a splitter so the hoses go into both sides. Luckily it wasn't that complicated.
A 12 foot hose many take 5-10 minutes to get purged of air. Quick purge is depressing the value button on the end of the hose, 5-10 seconds. +++ Not suggested by any manufacture instructions.+++
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thanks for your reply! We all know the 20 lb tank should not be in the house during use. So I need to pass the hose thru a window during a power outage, an 12’ is no long enough. I might call Mr. Heater
IMHO using the 20# tank with the hose you have is a much safer set up. Regulator is on the supply tank and the supply tank should be outside and hose run through wall or some other hole to the heater. Those little 1# cylinders with a direct hook up have quite a bit of pressure hooked directly to the heater. Therefore a regulator failure on the heater or a leak on the heater can create a very serious situation. You should check your connection for leaks EVERY time before ignition. I use a product called SNOOP gas leak detector. It comes in 8 OZ. plastic bottle with a flexible extension to get into hard to reach areas. Detects leaks that soapy water wont. Its designed for industrial applications . We used this stuff for years in the oil refinery where I used to work. Do not take short cuts when using propane.
Thanks for the advice! I've been thinking about putting my propane outside like you suggested. I've only used the soapy water method and will look into Snoop.
I bought one for Christmas time couple days after at tractor supply I got the big buddy unit $128 I thought what A still since I’ve seen these for almost $200 these Small heaters are awesome thanks for Taking the time to make this video we all appreciate you
And I'm using my mr heater bigbuddy inside my mobile home because my sister has both of my generators for her oxygen these units are supported to shut down with no oxygen
Awesome! Thank you! I run this heater under my workbench and it makes a cold garage enjoyable. My biggest mistake was not getting the hose accessory sooner.
@@MarkThomasBuilder We ordered the hose quick disconnect adapter but have not figured out how to add the Filter; if I even need one since I got the name brand (Mr. Heater 10' Hose.
I run this in my living room with a 20lb tank every every winter for the past 6 winters. Old windows allow some air in & never had a problem. Medium setting warms whole room in cold weather.
Why are the instructions so strict about keeping the 20lb tank outside? Their cabinet propane heater MH18CH has same heat output rating of 18K and has a 20lb tank mounted right inside the heater.
That's a great question. I've tried to find some expert advice on that issue. My propane supplier said you can keep the 20lb tank inside. When I do a propane exchange at Home Depot, you can't bring any propane cans inside the store.
Because of the amount of propane the cylinder holds is enough to create a major fire hazard if there was a leak. Whereas a 1 pounder is nowhere near the propane. Dragster cars only have enough gas to make it down the race track once for the same reason. Safety.
There is no fuel filter with the regulator and quick connection only a fuel regulator how do you attach the fuel filter they recommend that whenever you use a hose to use a fuel filter and a fuel regulator
@@alexruiz4769 i have went to every store to try and find a big buddy with a fan, none had one. it also says on their homepage that some will not have a fan anymore.
@@dankollars4501 As of a week ago, the Walmart near me had the red Big Buddy heaters with fan, in stock for $119. I picked one up and the fan works as expected.
Be aware Keeping the 20# tank in the cold reduces the efficiency. It is liquid in the tank and turns to gas through the line. In very cold temps the tank may not have enough pressure to operate the buddy
Thanks for sharing, that's good to know if I ever have any issues. I have a little primus camp stove that I tried in real cold weather and it had issues similar to what you're talking about.
You need to edit your videos before posting them. It’s a CO detector (carbon monoxide) not CO2, which is carbon dioxide. I’m thinking the company recommends using a filter with hoses. Not sure if the connection makes any difference or not, but you probably should include that little tidbit in your video.
No... The 20# LPG hose only connects to one side, but has nothing to do with lighting both ceramic burners. A one pound tank hooked up to either side will supply gas to both heating elements. One or both elements lit is a function of the H, M, or L settings on the heater which obviously determines the run time of the heater - another thing that should be obvious is the temperature setting the only factor determining run time. Operating the fans has no effect on run time. The heater works perfectly fine without the fans running. Unless you have the ac adapter, you'll go broke buying batteries. Invest iñ the adapter as well as a couple sets 9f rechargeable D batteries and/or make yourself a sealed lead acid battery rig with a couple 6v batteries for an emergency light fixture of appropriate Ah (amp hours) that'll fit in the battery compartment. You can even rig a charging adapter to either swap out a depleted battery and replace it with a freshly charged one while recharging the dead battery... OR findxa power supply of sufficient amp and voltage rating and plug it in so its charging the battery while on board and don't bother with extra, unless you want to have a spare. Probably a good idea... As is investing in the adapter to refill the empty one pound tanks from a 20 pound tank so you can have full tanks available for total portability and emergencies. That way you have spare batteries, ways to power the heater when needed. In a real emergency, worse case, skip the fan. The life saving heat in a survival scenario is what's important. It'll run for DAYS on low from a 20# tank, and a long time on low with a 1lb tank. Having 4 filled añd a 20# tank with a cpl charged 6v batteries could pull you and your family thru an emergency. The batts can power a small radio for news, charge cellphones and tablets during an emergency as well as a small led light or two. The batts could even be connected in series and ensuring proper polarity, be charged with your car when and if the need ever arise.
Hello, when you’re not using your Mr. heater for the summer where do you store the hose,do you keep it on the heater or you do you take it off, if you do take the hose off where do you store the hose for the summer because the hose smells like propane when you take it off??
When I plugged this hose into the inlet, both burners worked. No additional connections or setting required. I'm saving a ton by not buying the 1lb cans.
I ordered the F271802 12' to fit 2020 (PRESUME) BIG BUDDY gray color unit. Had I seen your video clearly would have went with 803 all in one...I hope all be ok... your thoughts? Thanks
I've heard they use less propane with a big tank. (20lb.) I hope thats true! I just bought the Big Buddy and will buy the bigger tank soon. There are also videos on youtube that show how to refill the 1lb cylinders.
Yes, before I bought the hose kit, I was going through 2 @1lb tanks every couple times using the heater in the garage. This hose kit is way cheaper to use and less hassle changing tanks all the time.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thanks! I will keep a couple of filled 1 lb cylinders just for back up in case I accidentally run out of propane 😉 I can imagine the big tank is much easier to use! 👍
I'm not sure what the law is on propane tank storage. I keep mine inside the garage and haven't had any issues. I could drill a 1" hole in the block foundation if I wanted to store it outside.
Davonna Weleczki: I keep my 20lb tank in my living room around 6' from my heater. Haven't had any problems at all in 9 seasons now. Proper safety precautions apply.
You can get leak detector soap from Home Depot. You apply it to the connections and see if it bubbles up after a minute. You can also put a couple drops of dishwashing soap in water and spray it too.
I believe so, but don't have one to test out to say for sure. If you have your model number, you can look at the listing to see what it's compatible with.
Hey--just fired up my setup; works like a charm. I picked up two Big Buddies (living room & garage) and two Portable Buddies (bedroom & bathroom) as our older home is experiencing some electrical issues as well as a deteriorating chimney that needs rebuilt. I can't run the risk of a space heater shorting out another circuit so we're going with propane this coming fall and winter. One question: do you know if it is safe to leave the tank (situated outdoors) on or should it be immediately shut off as soon as the heater is turned off? Thanks.
Hi, I'm not sure how to advise you on the tank storage. My best guess is that it should be shut off after each use. I recall reading something that says that the 20lb tank should be outside when running the heater.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Yup. Putting the tanks outside. That's why I was wondering about shutting off at the tank. Always a good idea but means I have to walk outside. Haha. No big deal. Thanks for replying.
@@darenunlimited I know you asked 3 months ago and have probably figured it out already, but just in case you're still unsure about it. I would only turn off the 20lb if you don't plan of firing up the heater it's connected to for say over 24 hours. If you're home and simply firing it up every few hours or just a couple times a day to help keep it not uncomfortably cold in your home then you're good. It's even fine to keep it on longer, like most people do with their grill, but I like to be safe and try to reduce the chance of any leaking propane which is obviously unsafe and a waste of propane which equals a waste on $$$....I don't like either!
@@STEVEWONDA1976 Nice. Yeah, at first, I was turning the tanks off, every time. Gradually, started leaving them on, longer and longer. Thanks for confirming what I had assumed, due to my observations. I really love my heaters; doing the trick, nicely, of heating our rooms that have electrical issues. Propane is cheaper than electricity, so far. Thanks for the reply. Merry Christmas.
I heard its not good to run the heater on medium because it runs a liittle dirty on that setting. You either go low or high not sure if thats correct or not. Also I use a 5 foot hose without the quick connect setup and plug it into the regular connect that you use for the 1 pound bottleswith a 20 lb'er.
David B : Medium is all I run on my Big Buddy. Runs perfect. Early ones had trouble because of the heating plates they used. Newer ones work fine on all 3 settings. Medium keeps my living room nice on cold nights.
