I have an 8 man tent. Me and my buddy both have Mr. Buddy heaters. We camped in 5 below zero last year. We had both heaters going - one on each end of the tent. Kept us warm and happy. Get a fan to hang from the ceiling of the tent to blow the hot air down.
That’s a great tip! Definitely will look into doing that! No issues with the heat melting the tent at all? And did you have it in the High or low setting? Thanks!
I have used the big buddy heater for an estimated 24 years or more . still has original regulators on it and never a problem . We bought 2 more big buddy heaters last year for $100 each . All have the built in fan , but we use the fan off our camp stove to save batteries .
The green 1 lb bottles are nice even though they freeze up after a while on colder evenings but on high you're lucky if you might get 6 hours if Lucky, but if you had the adapters and a 20 lb tank and depending on the weather you can go for nearly a week I know I used to use one in my van with safety small window cracked open just enough for fresh air and one slightly cracked open in the back for fresh air and ventilation I've used them as low as 15 below zero in the Colorado Rockies in my van and I've used these heaters for many years
thanks for the real world feedback! this is useful for the viewers. I plan to make more videos on more heaters soon and the adapter to 20lb tank will be part of it!
@@otdrgear with all the options that we have for heaters for our outdoor activities it's insane LOL I choose not to use the Chinese diesel heater in my vehicle at nearly $5 a gallon for diesel it's just cheaper to run propane in the long run
@@michaelmyers3892 definitely don't run the diesel! im going to create a series of videos comparing the various Mr Heater brand heaters. There's a surprising amount of options with those!
@@otdrgear yeah those Chinese heaters are nice but when you look at the cost of diesel the extra fuel tank you have to have not to mention at least two quality House batteries I'm sorry but when you're on a fixed income lithium batteries are all but out of the question there's too many options for alternative heat that was a little safety you can use them just as efficiently
@@michaelmyers3892 totally agree. To emphasize the point of this channel, our goal is to review products and discuss their value as compared to alternative options so we can save people like you the money and hassle of buying the wrong products! We'll mix in tips and tricks and some outdoor hunting/fishing videos along the way! Would love if you subscribed if you haven't already!
Very informational, planning on buying one for winter camping, love your examples of what would happen if this fell in a pond or being tossed onto the ground.
Ha that was great when you suddenly knocked the buddy off the tailgate. Also good to see them stand up like tht as I have 2 of them. Cool idea, I hope you get tons of sponsors sending you stuff . Keep doing it just like that. subbed.
All my research shows its only danger is sometimes there is a leak at the hose connection that causes a fire and that can be scary with a 20 lb. tank ....BOOM !
I would also never recommend using a damage unit. However everything was in good condition internally and I ensured that before adding the tank back to it!
Depends on which one you buy :) they sell 1, 2, 5, 10, 20lb tanks! you can also buy an adapter hose to connect the portable buddy heater to a larger tank! The hose is like $15 on amazon. I will be making a video on this soon!
@@otdrgear Yes. I found out that you could hook up larger tanks, as long as you use a connection hose. It seems like they are a better deal, especially if you have to run it long and continuous, like in a power outage.
I love that heater. It's so fun. It just died out I and hour and the next day I tried it and just ate the whole 1 lb tank. It said 48 hrs. Thing just shuts off in an hour. I took it back. I'm so mad. I'll just get one of those bulbs you put on a propane tank. Haaaaa. Free returns. Took it to kohl's. Got 5$ kohl's cash. Got my mom a nice Cartier sweater on cyber Monday specials today so. I came up 5$ and such. No worri
@@otdrgear it was 55 outside and tank froze half full and just shuts off. Maybe just filled up wit sediment in one day. Anyways. You're very kind. Thank you. I got that dyno bulb for the top of a propane tank and we warm up in here. Hey hey. 40$ walmart plus 5 year warranty for 5 dollars. No problems but it blows out alot of heat. Not good for tents at all unless you hang a metal plate above it. Of course open all the windows. You might cook. Nvm don't listen to me
"I had a propane heater, but it burns too quickly. After discovering the Chinese portable diesel heater, I have been using it for several years now and it has proven to be safer, more reliable, and more efficient over time."
Yo I just opened my mr heater. Buddy. Had it running good. 18 degrees Fahrenheit froze the propane and the heaters dwindles out and shuts off. What do I do? Shutoff in like an hour
I would try putting Teflon tape in the threads. May help create a better seal! Otherwise that’s the down side to using the 1 pound tanks! You can always upgrade to the larger tank and adapter!
@@otdrgear yo. It's like 50 degrees out and it just shuts off after an hour. It said 48 hrs for 1 lb tanks. I sent it back. I could've froze if I was in the wilderness. F those heaters. Lol. I'll just get that bulb you put on a propane tank. Like a bomb. No worries.
How long does the propane tank last?Do u need ventilations?I've never used one kinda scary to put tank on and lite it .The bigger Buddy does it heat a room?Where to get a heat fan?I don't know how to mount it on the Buddy Heater.
Hi Lisa! Thanks for the comment! The heater will run for a little less than 5hours on a 1lb propane tank. They are very safe and can be used indoors! I might just make a video on the heat fan since it takes a little macgyvering ! Please subscribe so you'll be notified when it comes out!
there is a screen type grill for holding paint (sit on) found in the paint section at home depot type stores (or hardwood stores) that you can attach to the handle and set the stove fan on top of and it blows the hot air outward (there are vids on y.t. for that hack.)@@otdrgear
Only idiots throw good stuff away that really work. Obviously none of this stuff works for him. I have no time that I am going to waste watching someone destroy products on utube. Either it works or ur just making yourself look good for nothing..I never had trouble with mine. It helps to read directions...
Hey, thanks for your comment! Just wanted to reassure you I keep all products that aren’t deemed unsafe or have completely fallen apart. I’ve still got both the heaters in the video, and still use them!
