This record parodies the 1975 summer blockbuster film Jaws, featuring Dickie Goodman interviewing the shark (whom he dubs "Mr. Jaws") as well as the film's main characters, Brody, Hooper, and Quint. Goodman employs his signature "break-in" music sampling technique, where all interview responses are lyrics from popular songs of that year. The single peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1975. On the Cash Box Top 100, it performed even better, reaching #1.
Goodman would later create more parodies of Hollywood films, along with political satire records. The B-side of this single was "Irv's Theme."The song was released under the label Cash Records, a name Goodman conceived when asked to whom the record company should make the check out. The recording took place at Sear Sound in New York, engineered by Russ Hamm. Initially, the record featured sampled songs; however, when it became a hit, later pressings used sound-alike recordings instead.
