Your analysis is clear as mud…I think it’s the way I’m thinking of the scales Dorian, Aeolian, and Phrygian. Help!😊

I adore ❤️ it when you actually play: expressiveness, melodic presentation, mood, "originality" of (brief) improvisation ... Encore anticipated (with different tunes)! Lohvissimo!

There's a way to solo over the Cm-F vamp without using dorian: Just use the aeolian scale over the Cm7 chord, then switch to pentatonic, hexatonic or blues on the F7. Voila! A consonant solo with no A naturals.

Mr. Magic was the first real work with improv and his style... So much fun emulating Grover 😁🎷

Solid instructional. I've seen others explain how to break down changes by mode, and I like yours the most. You get to the heart of it. Great job!

I cannot believe that someone would say that this analysis is "ok". I'm sensing sour grapes here. This analysis is excellent, thoughtful and insightful. As with any musical analysis there are nuances open for discussion, depending how far one wishes to take it. On top of that he really has a beautiful tone, great job.

A great video. Grover is very special to me. I got to meet him at one of his concerts a few months before he passed, what a warm and wonderful person he was. I've been playing Mr Magic and other Grover tunes for years. Thank you so much for this analysis, you've given me fresh ideas on how to interpret this tune. BTW, I'm ordering your altissimo book - NOW

The irony is that "George" was Grover's birth name, but changed it Grover. I was told this but a CLOSE family friend. 👍👍👍

It should be G7b13 not #5 if it is related to C melodic minor, #5 whole tone scale. Your solo was lovely, your articulation and timing are so clean, it's astounding!

This analysis is okay but the esssence of Jazz is when the supporting musicians get to comp behind the soloist nit necessário chart the soloists direction. Dance already charts some of the direction. When he plays the melody like Grover almost note for note it's interprétation not creative. If you look at a chart for this great tune co- written by Ralph McDonald and the harmonic content probably by William Salter you can see where Grover embellished or improv around the melody. Amy Whinehouse version her saxman improvisés on the chords to the melody which is great by itself. Get creative stop doing it the volunteered slavery versions @
