A great Milwaukee staple I remember going to their old restaurant as a kid, they have the best dressing and yams it reminds me of my grandmothers cooking.

I'm from tn this is what my grand ma cooked it's what makes my heart happy this not boring food by no means. It's delicious and takes a good cook to get it right. Thanks to all the men and women in my family who have fed a great meal.
Me being African-American male I have really changed the way I cook soul food in the last 15 years. More baked less fried my Greens and Beans don't have tons of ham hocks and neck bones just a little bacon etc. I love soul food but we got to change the way we do things so we can live longer

Amen! S.S. I said the same thing you said. Us African Americans people as whole need to eat more fruit and vegetables and more baked chicken and baked fish instead of frying meat all the time. I eat more baked chicken and baked fish and fruits and vegetables now that I am getting older.
Paula Dean always came off to me as she learned how to cook from a number of people(as we all do). It’s my understanding these recipes came about a long time ago from a mixture of the people taking their knowledge of cooking and and combining it with what was available in the south. I’ve grown up eating this food(the best in my opinion). I remember my Mom and her friend Mary(a beautiful sweet and kind woman) who happened to a black woman getting together and sharing their knowledge of cooking and laughing and having a good time. When I think about good food I think of those good times❤️
I grew up eating at the restaurant! My father knows Mr. and Mrs. Perkin's personally. Will was such a nice person. I had the honor to meet their daughter Jill, at her wedding, when I was much younger. Did Wilma retire? This is definitely a hidden gem in Milwaukee. Try the chitlins. 🤗

I've eaten there a couple of times and I live in Waukesha and I would drive to go to mister Perkins Restaurant and get my soul food on because they didn't have anything like that no whatsoever in Waukesha Wisconsin miss that place I will definitely try to get there next time I'm in town believe me it's the bomb you will love it

When you go to restaurants like that that treat you like your family the portions are wonderful and they gave the food to you that's pipe and hot and fresh not sitting under a heat lamp for 5 or 6 hours but when you come into places like that you are a family that's all I'm going to say
People hungry I know they are fast food ain't food folks lots a hungry people's on the road they aren't eating at home they aren't eating out either gots to eat
