Hi, and thanks for your very clear and well-demonstrated video. I have a question please. We have a valve next to two other solenoids buried a couple of feet from the mains water tap. This valve has two red wires, one of which is taped at the end to a black wire, the other being taped at the end to a white wire. I'm yet to dig all the dirt away in which the rest of the valve is submerged. Going by the wires as described, do you think this is a master valve? When we moved in, there was never a wire connected to the M or P terminal on the retic controller (which had been hardwired), so if the valve described above is a master, it is not being used. 30 years later, and on our second new controller (now connected to an outside GPO), I'd like to connect this master valve, if that's what it is. Problem is, there are no red wires in the controller. Does this indicate the master valve is not being used?
Red wires come from solenoid coil, and as you say change to black and white, if installed correctly they should run back to controller on the same colour wire, so the controller should have a white wire in one of the terminals, black should be the common, Master valves should be installed directly on the end of the isolation valve(retic tap).
