Mr Turner and the Summer Exhibition 

So looking forward to see this film! I once held Turner's sketchbook in my hands at the British Museum and also at the Yale Center for British Art. I am a "sketchbook keeper" and was so deeply moved by his pages.

what was that blotch of red paint supposed to be? did he say " a boy" or " a boat" either way it looks like neither

Maybe was interesting making a movie about John Constable s` life. A director is needed to do it !

Art went downhill around 1860. It has now gone below rock bottom.

"He's ruined a masterpiece!" Really? That stilted claptrap of a painting impressed no one. Even the King - for whom such a painting as this was aimed and Turner hoped would would purchase it - rejected it as a visual bore. Too many cooks were in one this one and Turner's bid for marine accuracy sunk the painting. Turner was a great painter no question, but this was not one of his "masterpieces."
