MRA-inspired Windscreen Extension Spoiler - Any good? Ride tested also! | 2019 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT

One of the comments that many riders of the Tracer have is that the windscreen tends to be noisy and in some cases there is wind buffeting experienced. I agree on the noise but so far at my height I have not really experienced buffeting. What I can say is that I would also like to have some more airflow past the windscreen since I live in a hot climate. I have an MRA X-creen windshield with an articulated spoiler extension on my BMW R1200RS, and I wanted to get a clamp-on spoiler of a similar type to use on the stock windscreen. Not being sure that this would solve my airflow and wind-noise issue I did not want to spend a lot on this spoiler. I ended up getting this spoiler from Amazon and the video details the installation, although not the assembly of the spoiler itself.

I ordered one for my 2022 Honda Rebel 1100, and it works perfectly. It did reduce wind noise coming in the front by a lot ever since I stalled it on my windscreen which made a huge difference for me. For me, I didn't have to assemble since mine was already built to install

I think I will give this a try. Just bought a 15’ fj-09 and the stock windshield is horribly loud at speed. Even with ear plugs I got a bit of tinnitus after a 2 1/2 hr ride. So I ordered a National Cycle V stream. It is a definite improvement but sill get a rumble on top of my head. If I duck down and move forward it is very quiet but who wants to do that for long periods of time. Will probably try the Givi windshield too but if the MRA works well that may be the ticket. Thanks!

Still enjoying it’s functionality. An automatic upgrade for any bike that I own unless it’s a sport bike then the aesthetics would be all wrong.

I first used an MRA with the lip on Kawasaki ZRX while I was living there is Texas :). I have a F900XR BMW now with one, if you can afford the MRA, it's worth the money, but that does look like a good low cost solution if the standard screen is just not quite right. My F900XR came with the sport screen, which was totally useless :).

Use Loc-tite on the clamp screws. I have the MRA on my RS and the screws backed out after a few rides. Once I added the thread locker, they haven’t come loose.

Actually the MRA windscreen I have said it was made in Germany.

@@GrumpyGoat im not saying theyre not locally made, just that theyre 99% the same thing. I bought mine on aliexpress for 7 dollars and the difference is the box it comes in.

@@CreativoErratico⁠I know and I agree with you. In most cases it’s exactly the same which is why I have no issue buying some Chinese products. As long as it’s not tools made of metal. They use plastic metal of some sort. 😊

Have it done any damage to your windshield? Like cracking or scratching it at where the clamps go?

No - I did remove it once since installing it and there was no evidence of any damage to the windshield whatsoever. The clamping area has silicone rubber liner where it touches the windscreen which does a good job of protecting it.

Hi There Grumpy Goat Loving your vids, informative and good watching Hope you can help ime trying to find a clip on extension screen for my RS without having to purchase a full MRA Screen and wondered if you could possibly advise. Tony, there is a link to the clip on extension in the Description to this video. Isn’t that what you’re looking for? Wunderlich also makes one but it’s a lot more expensive than the one in this video.

The stock RS windshield has a bead along the top edge that helps make the windshield very rigid. The clamps on the clip-on lip that I used in this video have rubber inserts at the clamping surface, which may not allow for the thickness of this bead. This means some additional fitting may have to be done. Either the bead will have to be ground down flush where the clips attach, or the rubber insert would have to be modified to fit around the bead. I have not done this myself so I do not have a definitive answer. Anyway the lip I got in this video is cheap enough that you can buy it and if it doesn't work out you're not out much money.

Have a you tried that thing on your R1200RS? I also have an RS and wish there was less wind noise and better wind protection when the stock windshield is in the upper position.

No I haven’t not tried any lip on the stock screen when I had it on the bike. I took off the stock screen when I got the MRA XCreen Sport which is a small screen that has a lip built in.
