An American in all his glory! Apricot jam on duck rillettes !! Do you know we hanged people for less than that? But hey, what can we expect from a people who pineapple in the pizza ..... ;-)
As Napoleon said : Everybody can raise an army, until lunchtime. Seems in France we still remember this. (mostly because during WW1 we had a terrible experience about feeding our arys lol)
Now this is a Fresh RCIR. It is nice to see how they improve and change up menus it was cool to see contents in this new one. Apricot and Duck sounds fantastic I got to try that. Awesome Review Nathan hope you are doing well!
These packs are very useful when out on a walk in the middle of nowhere. I even keep one in the car when severe snow is forecast, just in case. Very nice food, everything in one pack.
I was a UN police officer assigned to Mitrovica North in Kosovo during 2000. The UN at the time used French field rations. We were surrounded and besieged by the Serbs for about a week during that summer and used up most of the rations. When the siege was lifted we were resupplied, and we were happy until we saw ALL of the ones they sent were "Hindu Menu # 2". The two main courses (in cans) were Mutton (old sheep) & Beans and Fowl (bird, not necessarily chicken) & Rice. They sent thousands of them. Yuck.
I just ordered one from Amazon after watching all you guys review them. Unfortunately I won't be getting it until the first of May. Looks like it's worth the wait. Very nice review!
"REE-YETS".... a slightly "rougher" version of a pate. My personal favorite. Loving all of the great reviews coming out on the new French menus! A couple of years ago I watched a review video where the reviewer suggested using the jam to cut the liver flavor in pate. That's the way I've eaten most of the pork liver pates since then. Delicious. Great review, thank you!
Did you heated the salad? French MRE always have a cold dish ( a salad) and a warm one (usually a stew)…. The cold one is for lunch, the hot one for dinner….
"It´s like a black tea almost...". It LITERALLY says so on the packaging. A bit of google translate would do this a world of good! But nice to see what the french put into those packages. Oh, and btw... the stove and the fuel can be used to warm a dugout or start a small campfire easily, unlike a flameless ration heater. Just dig a little hole in the wall of your dugout and place the stove in there. Gives you at least a little spot to warm your hands on.
Directly from Presidential debates, I found a new Nathan review to watch........ Maybe I should have skipped the debates, because this is a great review.....
@@NathansMRE ? Why do you say that? Seems to me that you did the right thing. Perfect, sensible antidote to bring us back to reality. Well done Nathan. As always.
I've had a few French rations recently and they are certainly some of the best out there. They could use a bigger spork though. I've had this menu, and I will say that the ginger in that tuna salad was a bit too overpowering, but everything else was fantastic
They include this tiny little spork just in case you lost or somehow don't have the "Tatou" issued by the army. The "Tatou" is a knife with a spoon, fork, corkscrew and can opener. No need for a plastic spork if you have a reusable metal fork
I bought a few cans of tushenka from my local Russian store and had one of them last night. I agree that these are generally the best rations that I've seen reviewed by you, Steve, Sticky, and the other guys. "Noir" is French for black, so "thé noir" is "black tea"- the Chinese call it "hong cha", which translates as "red tea". We call it black as the leaves are oxidised and turn a black colour, but the Chinese call it by the colour of the liquor produced. "Vert" is "green" in French. "The vert au ménthe" is green tea with mint. 70 'Murican dollars!?! Well, it is a full day's caloric intake and pretty decent chow- for canned food.
RILLETTES IS PATE WITH LOT OF FAT. THE MEAT IS COOKED IN BOILED FAT OF SAME ANIMAL, NOT GROUNDED AND VERY LONG TIME TO SOFT THE MEAT. THE CLASSIC ONE IS WITH PORK FROM LE MANS (WHERE IS THE CARS RACE: 24H DU MANS). ABRICOT JAM ON IT STRANGE BUT NOT STUPID. YOU DO THAT WITH DUCK FOIE GRAS WHICH IS MORE SWEET.
I fired a Latvian ration into me the other night. First time messing with an Esbit stove and an MRE. Fire makes hotter, but it also smells, a lot. But the taste over an open flame, the best.
Love the review. Looks really tasty bit I was disappointed when you talked about the lack of flavor versus the old menus. Stay safe and thanks for the great video.
tous ces produits sont vendus dans les magasins en france, vous pouvez tous les acheter individuellement sur pleins de sites , amazon etc , ce sont des produits populaires donc accessible et ça vous coutera beaucoup moins chers que ces boites.
You gotta put the instant coffee in the muesli. And then with the biscuits you gotta take the chocolate crackers and mix it in the dessert when you have pudding.
One of the best mre you can get with one of the worst eating utensils, last time I used one of those sporks it snapped at the fold from the weight of the main
They include this tiny little spork just in case you lost or somehow don't have the "Tatou" issued by the army. The "Tatou" is a knife with a spoon, fork, corkscrew and can opener. No need for a plastic spork if you have a reusable metal fork
great vid, one thing I'm interested in is how are ppl able to sell those cuz it's written on the box in french that they aren't allowed to be commercialized
I love watching ration review videos. Does anyone actually do reviews outside on a day in the woods, etc? I’d love to see how these perform when used in windy, cold, rainy or other adverse conditions. Also, are they worth carrying? I know of soldiers who would ditch certain elements if they had a long ruck ahead.
YOU SHOULD GIVE MORE DETAILED INGREDIENTS: LIKE I GUESS IN MÜESLI AND HOT CHOCOLATE THERE MUST BE DESHYDRATE MILK IN IT, WHICH MAKES A GREAT DIFFERENCE.
I used to get these free of charge from a soldier friend of mine, only paid the shipping. I dunno how much you paid for them in the US, in France they run for 10 to 12 euros a box.
Loving the videos. One thing I'd suggest is do a slight bit more editing to make the overall video smoother/slightly shorter. For example 22:08 is a bit rough. Could do with a cut. Wasted time and uninteresting bits really hamper it.
Italian isn't actually that good. I think US is better than both Italian and Russian, but they have so many menu's so there's some that are not that good. One thing US rations lack though is pate'. But there are other mre's that are better than US along with French.
I bought two 2023 French MRE and thinking about buying another one. I am going to eat one and compare it to Italian MREs that I purchased a few years ago.
Howdy man, just got up and what do I see : A big one from Nathan... make a start because I gotta work in a bit... alright said Nathan in the intro, so do I lol *
In the French army, each soldier has a field cover tatoo, even among civilians who go hiking, we will say that it is a tradition among the French to have field covers in their pockets, the plastic fork is only there to make presence, it is useless...
If you really want french canned goods and don't want to ea french MRE's, why not just order online? worst-case scenario go on amazon and type in french food or food from France in the gourmet food pages? It would be a lot cheaper they flying to France, anyway great video always nice to see what our friends in NATO are eating, kinda surprised they haven't put snails in one yet.
Oh ok its rillettes, yeah no problem sold at any supermarket. Offer stays, you want it let me know. Ofcaus you pay for it and shipping. But its realy cheep. Something like 2€ a pot. Shipping will be the most expensive
YOU DON'T EAT A SALAD HOT(YOU DESTROY VITAMINES IN IT)! XD AND YOU NEED STIR A BIT WHEN COOKING TO NOT BURN IN BOTTOM AND HEAT THE TOP. YOU ARE REALLY A MILITARY, AREN'T YOU? (^_-)
Kathi Morrical thank you 🙏🏾 I’m thinking of doing reviews so I’m trying to build my inventory so that I’ll have a good amount of them I have Lithuania 🇱🇹 Russian 🇷🇺 Latvian 🇱🇻 a Polish 🇵🇱 a full 24 menus of newer American 🇺🇸 some older ones as well and I have a full case of MCW’s and still have about 4 Lithuania and 2 Russian coming almost forgot I have 1 Canadian 🇨🇦 and another on the way I’m going to check Foreign MRE.com right now
@@decarlosperry5111 I just got some last yr for Christmas presents. Everyone thanking me NOW! Yes they ARE different prices from different sites. MRE mountain, is good too. Sounds like you're into international more than US military or the other emergency rations. Those can be good, too. Enjoy!
Kathi Morrical I actually have some of those too the first video I do will be of my inventory once everything or mostly everything comes I have to properly catalogue everything about to start that today and hopefully I’ll have the inventory video up sometime next week one of the orders I just received this week were emergency rations
Not quit true, I live in France and have never seen those cans before. But if you wand duck patte, or patte aux canard, let me know, il post it to you.
Cant he make it into 3 meals instead of doing it all at once. By doing it like this stuff sits for too long, gets cold or mushy. Like why not break it up and actually enjoy the ration to it fullest
Actually, it seems there’s a bit of a misunderstanding : those rations represent 3600 to 3800 calories. They are meet for a full day of hard training, from breakfast to dinner : the salad, a cold dish, for lunchtime - when you have little time to cook- the stew, a hot dish is for dinner… I don’t know why all those YTbers insist on eating the 3 meals at the same time…. Every time I am horrified… but then I am French…. Food is a religion to us!
As a knife guy: sharpening the knife on the back of a mug is not that bad of an idea if the knife is dull enough. It is not ideal, but as a stop gap meassure its better then just ignore how dull it is.
