Andy, I must say you have become an addiction of mine lately. I am suffering with my mental health and have just lost my job because of it. Your channel is bringing me a lot of peace at the moment. I thank your for the awesome work you put in to it. I came across your video about mens mental health and I'd like to say thank you. The day before I found it I tried to commit suicide, obviously I didn't succeed and I was blessed to find your video literally less than 24hrs later. You have helped me to start healing friend. When I'm a bit stronger I will most definitely be getting outside with mother nature to have a heart to heart with her thanks to your inspiration. Again, I thank you for that talk about our health. I am in your debt sir
Hi Mario, Im so sorry to hear about your situation.. I really hope the worst is behind you now.. we all have to find our own way back to positive mental health and understanding the problem is a good point to start at, at least it was for me.. you never know what tomorrow will bring buddy and sometimes it can really surprise you in amazing ways. I'm glad you have found some peace in my videos, it makes it very worthwhile hearing something like that! Stay strong and if possible.. surround yourself with those you can trust. ATB - Andy
Thank you for the gracious response friend. I look to each day now and try to find even the smallest thing that is uplifting. You have helped me buddy and I'm not just saying that. You are a genuine soul and it comes across in your character. Sorry, I felt I should tell you how you have "saved" me, my words can not express what you have done for me. Take care, I'm part of the notification squad so I'll see you on the next one.
Maroo stafford glad to hear you are on the up bud, it can be a long road & feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel but take it from me there is. Get out in the fresh air with some quiet countryside just a short walk and focus on the wonders Mother Nature has to offer try looking into some mindful meditation just a few mins in the quiet while your out for a bimble. Build yourself up to a wild camp don’t just jump in, find somewhere you feel safe & maybe take a buddy for the first few times until you build up your confidence who knows it may help you to talk when you are out of your everyday surroundings. speak to your family GP they will point you to organisations that can help you. Remember that suicide is a permanent solution to what is sometimes a temporary situation (I don’t know your situation & im not trying make light of it) please get some help and although it can feel all consuming just remember you are not alone there are good people out there be safe & take care my freind
Almonds bring a good amount of minerals, fiber and protein to the party for the weight of real food. One could toast them and add some to the rice. I would have used the rest of the apricot conserve in the rice as well.
Latvian rye black bread is the best bread I have tasted and it`s healthy and holding fresh without any preservatives for enough long time. This kind of bread you can find only in Baltic countries. Food in Latvia is good and tasty in general.
Most of the guys who do these reviews do them indoors - excellent that you were able to show one being used where they were designed for - in the field !
Hey Andy Now i have been known to be somewhat sceptical of army ration packs. But i have to say i was quite impressed with that one, looks like someone in Latvia has put a bit of thought into it. having nuts honey and rye bread is kinda in trail mix territory. It looks like one good meal, plenty of calories to see you through the day. But, most importantly, who ever chose the contents has clearly watch the 80s airplane movie more than once. 'pack more coffee'. If you were flagging at 4pm and still 5 miles from base, you could knock yourself up a strong one with the extra sugar. Latvia get a thumbs up from the English judge. Good job mate. Gary.
Hey Gary, yeah, it wasn't bad.. loved that main for sure! just glad to find one from a country I hadn't done yet.. a lot of the ones left are pretty pricey
That ration didn't look half bad to me. Sure, as a military ration it's supposed to be filling first and tasty second but it didn`t contain anything that coudn't be saved by adding some of the sugar or honey. And I'd personally be happier about the rye bread than about the generic crackers or hamburger buns you can find in so many other ration packs.
Yay, An MRE review 😀 Nice one Andy, looked decent that main meal, reminded me of Brains Faggots, love them but have to avoid seeing what they are made of. Cheers mate. Lee
At least it sounds like it tasted better than it looks (which is the case with most MREs I have tried as well). How would it rate on a scale of Spanish sardines to Southwestern beef black beans (or whatever your favorite is)? 😆 Mate, your editing and videography skills have been above par for a long time, but they keep getting better. The composition and B-roll skills just keep climbing. Keep up the great work. As I waffle on starting my own channel, I may pick your brain via email soon, if it is okay. I am excited to watch you and Simon go to Sweden. It should be a great time for you guys and enjoyable for us as well. Will you be meeting up with any Swede bushcrafters or expat countrymen? Will any of the collective miniature camp cookware be making the journey (I am joking...kind of)?
"Ladies and gentlemen, This is Field Ration no. 5!" That's the first time I've been earwormed by an MRE. 🤣 I have to admire you for tucking into the tin that looked like cat food, I'm not sure I would have. It looked very greasy, not sure the calories would be worth the digestive issues. Now the rye bread, which is very dense (that was two slices stuck together) is a favourite of mine anyway. Thanks for sharing Andy, fun and informative as ever.
Thanks :) haha, the 'cat food' in these rations always tastes a lot better than it looks, slow stewed meat.. good for the cold weather.. I never noticed that was 2 slices haha
So Andy you saying there wouldn’t have been enough fuel tabs in the kit to warm the main AND boil water? Maybe the main only needed a warm, not a major boil. Only a thought. The rest of the crystallised honey in the rice would’ve been nice. 👍🏻
Great review. Handy tip: when you get some ration bread make sure it's not actually two slices (it was) stuck together and not just one big thick slice.
@@KentSurvival Producing shelf-stable real bread is no mean feat, only this ration and the some Polish ones actually do this. They should be congratulated for the effort.
So I know this is late an you probably won't see it. I actually came across you looking for bushcraft videos. But enjoy all you content. Just wanted to let you know I watch steve1989 all the time for his mre reviews. I tried watch some of the others he mentions and just don't enjoy them. Your mre reviews I my opinion rank up the with his. Keep it up and thanks for the entertainment.
Great review Andy. I have had this ration before and i think they are ok, but to me the rice tastes too artificial and the nuts need some salt. Really enjoy your videos and thanks for sharing!
hi andy i was just watching dustin from bushcraft tools...and switched over to see if you moved your over to the new shelter lol but alas a different area
I do enjoy the ration reviews. Would love to send you some from the US. If you can get the newer US cold weather rations in the white bag, pretty good, just don’t get the seafood one. You probably won’t like it:)
haha, thanks buddy.. yep.. I try my best to avoid the seafood rations.. the Mediterranean ones are worst for that.. im trying to work through the rations ive got at the moment so I can start over.. they sit for so long in my ration box haha
I still want to buy one of these no idea why lol am sure in my hobby if I take one of these along they be like oh just bring some sandwiches :) great review
A word of advice Kent. The chewing gums in US MRE is a bit Laxetive !! ( MRE dares to constipate so they added laxative in MRE chewing gum..) do not go frenzy on them...
I think if I was knackered after a day doing Army things I'd be miserable eating that rat pack 😂 I'm guessing you won't be getting any more of those ones. All the best mate 👍 Skye
haha, it wasn't that bad.. couple of things id change but the main was actually pretty tasty ! always interesting to see anyway (I actually do have another as I got 2 lol)
@@KentSurvival 😂 I guess it's nice to experiment. I'm all about home made rat packs, dolmio pasta twists for dinner, lemon and lime tuna pouches and pita bread for lunch, snickers, honey cashew nuts and beef jerky for snacks 😋👍
Swamp Valley Latvian food is excellent in general, so if you haven`t been there and tasted it so better keep silent. I have done it and you can`t even compare it with tasteless British disaster. Sorry.
You'd probably pay a fortune for that in a Latvian restaurant in the west end, but you wouldn't get the same ambience....or smell of those tabs burning :)
Interesting ration kit but it sure has enough cal. to pull you through a day I guess. Wonder if the rice or what ever that was was meant to be a breakfast?
